Playing Dixon in the team will have this effect on mitch.. that much is so obvious by now
Playing Dixon ruins the forward line

It’s in their DNA buried deep under their fingernails that when he plays we bomb it high and long

They turn their brains off every single inside 50

Look at Brisbane to compare a team that bats deep. They lost Doedee, who is a competent defender, Coleman , who is a gun half back, Gardiner and McCarthy, all to ACL's. They would all be walk up starts in our team. And they can still pull out of the reserves a good role player that will do the job . And they have a F/S coming in the draft that is shaping as another gun. What have we got? Wooden spooners, Narkle , Jed, Rat, and Frankie
Help!
Can't have ' Dizzy ' Gardner. He's coming home to Hesse St. :)

We seriously have zero quality depth. Our middle to bottom end of the 23 is not up to it against the best teams. They were clearly a far more talented team than us. I know we had problems with structure and coaching as we always do, however our team is simply not good enough.

I thought at the time that it was 2020 or bust for us, and that's becoming more and more obvious.

Compare our 2020 finals performance to 2021, 2023 and now 2024. At least in 2020 it took one of the greatest dynasty sides of the modern era to beat us and that was only by a bees dick.
Our 2020 side was tougher than this side, people can say what they like about our list but the final against Geelong was unacceptable for an 18th placed side let alone a side that finished second, how any sporting organisation can perform like that in a home final is mind blowing.
The lack of leadership and psychological issues in that team is staggering

Here's another depressing set of stats:

Top 2 minor round finishes since 1997:

Geelong - 8 (5 gfs and 4 flags plus 1 gf made from 4th)
Port - 7 (2 gfs and 1 flag)
Brisbane - 6 (4 gfs and 2 flags plus 1 flag won from 3rd)
Hawthorn - 4 (4 gfs and 3 flags plus 1 flag won from 3rd)
Collingwood - 4 (4 gfs and 2 flags plus 2 gfs made from 3rd and 4th)
West Coast - 4 (4 gfs and 2 flags)
Adelaide - 4 (1 gf and 0 flags plus 2 flags won from 4th and 5th)
Sydney - 3 (3 gfs and 0 flags plus 2 flags won from 3rd and 2 gfs made from 3rd and 4th)
Essendon - 3 (2 gfs and 1 flag)
St Kilda - 3 (3 gfs and 0 flags)
North Melbourne - 2 (2 gfs and 1 flag)
Melbourne - 2 (1 gf and 1 flag plus 1 gf made from 3rd)
Richmond - 1 (0 gfs plus 3 flags won from 3rd)
Carlton - 1 (0 gfs plus 1 gf made from 6th)
Footscray - 1 (0 gfs plus 1 flag won from 7th and 1 gf made from 5th)
Fremantle - 1 (0 gfs plus 1 gf made from 3rd)
GWS - 0 (0 gfs plus 1 gf made from 6th)
Gold Coast - 0 (0 gfs)

This is damning for Port.

7 times in the top 2 for only 2 grand final appearances and 1 premiership.

And without the ground invasion by St Kilda fans in 2004 it would likely be even worse.

Over almost three decades now, we've had the chance to be one of the most successful AFL clubs and carry on the tradition from the SANFL, but we've squandered it big time.

These stats show that many teams have also made grand finals and won premierships from 3rd but Port, true to form, went out in straight sets on the two occasions they finished 3rd.

Ahh but is that male or female?
One never knows in Sydney.
Girl Why Dont We Have Both GIF

You can chuck Mitch in that line up too. Did sweet FA AGAIN...
If your coach knows ur a leading forward and decides to park two trees in front of you where you like to lead, then you would have done sweet FA too.

One of those trees, Dixon should have been permanently in our goal square, the other at CHf or wing. But no, dipstick parks them all in congestion at the top of the goal square.

Here are the turnarounds from our most recent finals losses ...

'24 PF v Sydney - lost by 36 having previously won by 112 (148 point turnaround)

'24 QF v Geelong - lost by 84 having previously won by 6 (90 point turnaround)

'23 SF v GWS - lost by 23 having previously won by 51 (74 point turnaround)

'23 QF v Brisbane - lost by 48 having previously won by 56 (104 point turnaround)

'21 PF v Western Bulldogs - lost by 71 having previously won by 2 (73 point turnaround)

So the average score turnaround from the previous result for our last 5 losing finals is 97.8 points.

Coobk001 - one for your stats thread
This is insane.

Boaks first shit kick in the first quarter changed everything. They got a goal out of it gained a shit load of confidence and never look back.

I like Boak but he’s had a career killer tonight. I’m going to remember this stinker for a while
If I played a quick thinking word association game & Boaks name was mentioned the first word I think of is FAILURE. That's on him. He should of led his team to a flag but he wasn't mentally strong enough & his disposal has always been diabolical (not interested in what the stats say, I use my eyes).

He sooked when the teams performance was criticised by Koch (forget the year) instead of acknowledging it. He's not a leader, never has been. In fact we haven't developed one decent leader under Hinkleys tenure & that's no coincidence. Weak, unaccountable coaches breed weak uncountable leaders.

Just remember that it's not the SANFL anymore, you can't expect to make grand finals and win premierships.

We can't just 'turn up' next year and expect a different result. At worst we just have to give Carr the role.
Don't want Carr. The coaching box has been calling the shots anyway. That has been abundantly obvious from Hinkleys body language. Yes, they've had to deal with Hinkleys presence & loser mentality, but they're not good enough either. Bring in new blood with new ideas, someone strong enough to take responsibility for failures, strong enough to drop underperforming players, strong enough to set high standards at training to properly develop young talent.
