Will I get in trouble if I google this on my work computer?
Just stick to her SFW music videos on Youtube. They get the job done. (And yes as a taken man I'm allowed to say this. My missus had Rihanna at the top of her hall pass list before any blokes - both a major relief and a bit of a concern for me.)

Not just footy media. The whole celebrity culture thing. People who have done very little to get excited about are given constant and repeated attention so that we will click on their stories. Bec Judd a classic example.
Just reading through the local NAIDOC awards this morning. Some real heroes there! Overcoming odds to achieve something worthwhile.
As of this morning there used be a 'Footy News' thread on the main board.

One of their stories today was;

I notice the 'Footy News' thread has now apparently gone to meet its maker, it is extinct, bereft of life.
I can only assume Bec Judd, her arachnophobia and her 761,000 instagram followers are somehow to blame.

You'll always be #1 on my hall pass,

after Jewelsbon and The King!

I can't really talk there KC. My heart does skip a little beat when my phone gets a notification that says "badgalriri just posted on Instagram"

But yeah the whole Bec Judd type celebrity thing goes way over my head. Someone is married to the sibling of some guy who is the son of a tailor who dresses some businessman and so we're supposed to care about them. I'll pass!
I wouldn’t know Bec Judd if she jumped up and bit me on the nose.

Have you folk considered turning the telly off? Mine only comes on for the footy.

Stick with radio and print media and then when some fabulous nobody comes up in front of your eyes you can completely ignore them because (a) you don’t have a clue who they are and (b) you KNOW that the fact of (a) means they aren’t important. The people that actually DO matter will find a way of becoming visible in your life.

To be fair, in this day and age of Murdoch-esque partialty, the radio and print media is arguably more mind-numbing than the TV. And some people just need to indulge in meaningless, unimportant fodder. My missus is a nurse and I know she has some pretty difficult shifts where she'll come home and just watch shitty reality TV or scroll through Instagram looking at random influencers I couldn't name, just to clear her head.

I can't really relate as I just don't have that off switch that allows me to disengage from what's happening in the world. If there's been a major news event that is genuinely important to the country/globe then I have to read up about it and such. Some just aren't wired that way I guess.

haha. My favourite ex is exactly the same. She has a hard working life and sometimes chills through watching weird reality tv. When we catch up I just roll my eyes when she insists on watching some weird show

And again to be fair, when I said print media I certainly wasn't referring to Murdoch toilet paper.

Yeah, it's funny, I once had a GF who was the most fiercely intelligent person I've ever had the (slightly terrifying) privilege of being near. And away from her very demanding work she would vegg out with the most mindless, brain melting pap on TV. She’s now a high-flying expert so it clearly didn't hold her back.

Also funny about your compulsion for big stories. Maybe different people ARE wired differently. Whenever I see a big story breaking, I turn off straight away because I just know I'm going to see nothing but endless footage of reporters trying to say something while there's nothing new to report.

haha

I vary. I will go to a major political event but ignore what others consider Big news.

I got into terrible trouble with another ex. I had neglected to tell her Di Spencer was at deaths door following a car accident. Ex and I went off to lunch. The waitress taking our order burst into tears and blubbered out, “Lady Dis dead”. The then partner never forgave me for not telling her the critical news.

Loved Horse saying he was a sook and had teared up when Bud announced his retirement to the team.

I am critical of Horse as a coach but there is no doubt he is a bloody decent human being.
