Lots of talk about the premiership window that Fox runs with and that we fell out of the window for the first tim this year. At least in my footy circles anyway and a bit of banter

Name me another year where the total points against is 33 pts on avg 1.5 pts a game between 1st and 7th

Think the last 20 premiers being top 6 in defence is rubbish when the top 7 are more or less tied

we as 7th gave up 1769 pts and wb as 1st gave up 1736 pts in total

If we didnt have that capitulation against port we would be well ahead
Who you play twice probably has a bit of an influence as well.

as disappointing and confusing as our form was going into that port match, the final score stands out as a bizarre aberration ... i'd be pretty confident we'd prove that in any finals meeting against port, i certainly don't fear them

Tom Hickey was on SEN just after 8 , always a good interview with Garry and Tim

Nice discussion about our goal kicking.
I'm not sure why the author believes that "if Armatey kicks 40 goals a season, he's done his job", but then criticises Logan because he's "not seeing a 50 goal per year forward".

Logan does valuable work up the ground.

Armatey far less so.

I therefore see it a bit differently - Armatey needs to become more of a consistent contributor (i.e., goal kicker) to "do his job". Take away the 9 goal game & he's been pretty disappointing.

Logan needs to keep developing & improve his strength in the marking contest - but "doing his job" involves more than just the number of goals kicked.

The mere mention of Hamish Davis alongside the Swans .... :p:D:eek::p:sydney::p:p

We have outscored every other team in the competition, and that’s even with that one disastrous game against Port included (where we managed just six goals IRCC).

I’m not willing to label any of our forwards as disappointing. They’ve all done their bit to contribute to the most potent forward line without needing to rely on the individual brilliance of a Franklin or Curnow, or needing to organise the forward line around maximising the output of one player (eg GWS with Hogan).

Random thought but I don't recall us ever having a Hamish on our list. Davis - yes, who could forget!

It's definitely an unusually even year, there's some bigger than normal threats in the bottom half of the 8. Especially Brisbane and the Dogs. Carlton probably would be if they were fitter but I suspect they'll get blasted off the Gabba.

very much agree ... i don't it necessarily requires any of the three to be a specific focal point, and all three do move around a bit ... i think it's worked very much as required this season, and the element of confusion has allowed the likes of hayward, papley and the mids to kick goals ...
all three have different roles, and i'd argue all three were among our improvers over those last few weeks ... mcdonald has looked more self-assured, amartey is showing a bit more physicality and mclean seems to take important marks all over the place

And Amartey, in particular, has shown an ability to stay in the game for longer periods. That doesn’t mean he’s contributing tangibly every quarter, but he’s had as many good last quarters as good first quarters this year, unlike last.

There was a King/Montagna segment a few weeks ago (can’t remember which Fox Footy show) that pulled apart how GWS’s forward line works to create space, outnumbers, block etc with the primary aim of getting shots at goal for Hogan. Knowing that’s what they’re doing doesn’t make it easy to stop, but it’s a good first step.

In contrast, it’s much harder to anticipate where our goals are going to come from. Opposition coaches might choose to focus on the smalls and mediums, or on the mids pushing forward or exploding out of the middle. But then they’ve got to account for the possibility of Campbell (if he keeps his spot), JMac or Florent dobbing them from 50m. And at the back of their mind knowing there’s always a chance (outside chance, maybe) of an Amartey or McDonald kicking a bag.

yes, one of the features of our best form is the multiple scoring threats ... you can add blakey to that group scoring from 50m ... and definitely hayward has become a busier, more effective player, and a more consistent goal scorer the way the forward line operates
