The SMH goes out of its way to NOT cover the AFL - it’s firmly supporting the NRL in Sydney.

And on the rare occasion the Swans do get a mention, it’s by Andrew Wu - a cricket writer.

The digital version has a decent AFL section hidden away but the print paper is an outrage. Another reason to stop subscribing to the 9 rag.

I was raised a Rampeist. Those that run free and rampage all in front of them including both goalposts. Take all, climb all, conquer all. To climb to a height that advantages the army is to give insight into the battle. To be able to see and intercept incoming projectiles from both sides is to position yourself in an advantageous position. Daneist or Danism faded out due to their non dual sided post climbing only seeing one side of the battle. They saw the world one dimensional. It flattened them. The true warriors, Rampeists were dual sided and climbed both posts and saw the world as spherical. Truly visionaries.
You should be stoned. Your blasphemy stolen almost word for word from Dane and the Art of Battle : the second sacred book of the SCG (QF version) - one of the most revered of all the ancient Daneist texts. The elders teach us that it was written by Rampe's disciple Melican't, his dear companion who was later transformed into Dane's acolyte Melican, during the Miracle of the MCG, or what you Rampeists falsely call the Parting of the (Collingwood) Press.

From the words of Melican't the Terrible -

"And thus was I humiliated once more, forced to look skyward from where I lay upon my back, beaten and trodden under the boots of my enemy. From the mud, I saw, far above the pack did sitteth Dane, resplendent was he in red and white, with Lloyd and Harry by his feet. His hands clasped firmly around the holy footy. His knees buried into the backs of his opponents. Worshippers cried his name. Wolf-whistles filled the air and trumpeted his praise on high. Long did he hang there In Specca Delectus (Latin: "in a delicious speccie"). Soft did he slowly descend to land upon the plush grass. Shrill was the umpire's whistle and in hushed tones did the crowd say 'oooooh'. I crawled forward to wipe his boots clean, so he might sail a torp towards the centre ".

Shame it's paywalled but I get the problem. All that hard work to get the fire started so why let it fizzle out? Live footy is important to maintain momentum but the AFL, being a Melbourne organisation, probably can't get their heads around the concept of no footy in town.
All the carry on about no footy in Melbourne on opening round weekend, but it's okay for Sydney to go the best part of a month with no games 🤔

"Beware of the Rampeists, who like to walk around in Rampe robes, and love to be greeted with respect at BigFooty, and to have the best seats at the SCG and places of honour at Swans functions."

The AFL thinks they're getting one up over the NRL since the NRL was in vegas 4 weeks ago.
