It's not then end of the world!

But you don't have much chance of winning the flag, because let's face Cox is better than anyone in the Comp, and Everitt is one of very few who can match him.

Talk of Sydney getting Keating or Gardner( Because they're cheaper) is stupid. You know why they are cheaper?

Because they're no where near as good as Spider!

Have you watched any other game between Sydney and the Eagles apart from the 2006 GF? Yes, Cox ripped apart Doyle and Jolly in that game but in the past, he hasn't. I seriously think that was one of Darren's worst games.. which came down to the whole baby issue and then his finger aswell.

Saying "you don't have much chance of winning a flag" in reference to whether we get Everitt or not is a load a bull.

I second that.

We defeated the Eagles in the QF and in the 05GF. It was obvious Spida wasn't there playing for the Swans, and we managed to scrape in a win against WCE.

OK if Pick 15 is really worth keeping thats fine, but not getting Spider is a massive mistake. I'm sure that pick 15 will help three years down the track when you're rebuilding.

Jolly is a good ruckman, he will always beat oppenents not as good as him. He is not in the same league as Cox though. Jason Ball was servicable against Cox, but Jolly in a grand final is not going to cut it working in tandem with Doyle. Everitt as No.1 ruckman, and Jolly as back up will match Cox/Seaby. This will give you MORE of a chance of winning the flag in 2007.

I'm not ruling you out of the premiership, just think Everitt is worth a hell of a lot to your side ATM.

QF- Kerr wan't playing

GF (05) - Jason Ball??

Yeah your right and I hope they do accept it. They would be stupid not to because if they don't accept it they will get nothing for him.

I would be very happy with a 2nd rounder. I almost felt bad when we were trying to get 1st and 2nd rounders for our 2nd rounder, that would be paying over the top.

pick 33 and everyone's happy. hope it gets done tomorrow.

I'd be happy but unfortunately Pelchen isn't and won't accept pick 33. His request was a low 2nd round pick or equivalent or send Spida to the PSD. He said if Spida went to the PSD then it would send a clear message to the playing group that if you want out there are no guarantees as to where you'll end up. After hearing him tonight, he won't back down from this. I think Spida will end up in the PSD.

Seems Pelchen will cost the Hawks a pick or two that might have been pretty handy in this draft. Oh Well.

Swans have made it fairly clear they're willing to take the punt on the draft - look for some last minute rapid-fire negotiation for Beau McDonald as insurance tomorrow, just in case.

Really not a bad scenario for us. Either Hawthorn sees sense and takes pick 33 (which, realistically, we've been willing to do since the start), or we stand a better than even chance of getting him for free.

If we don't take 33 then he's yours for nix I'd say.

Looking at the 14 clubs ahead of us in the PSD:
1. Carlton - no chance. Have ruled out recruiting Gardiner on account of age.
2. Essendon - long shot. Have not shown any sign that they're interested in backup for Hille.
3. Kangaroos - no chance. Laidley won't try topping up again... it would cost him his job.
4. Brisbane - no chance. They're bleeding because of salary problems.
5. Port Adelaide - no chance. Have Lade, have Brogan. Won't be spending $400,000 on a player that might not even get a regular game.
6. Hawthorn - no chance. Self explanatory.
7. Geelong - *maybe* a chance. With King, Blake and Ottens it seems unlikely, and it's hard to know what they're salary position is - they're shopping around Johnson so that doesn't bode too well.
8. Richmond - the first risk team. Have lost Stafford, and might like some coverage for Simmonds. If Polak deal isn't done, he will be taken ahead of Everitt.
9. St Kilda - a risk team. The noises from Lyon have apparently been good but I've had limited chances to hear them. Has he publicly ruled out taking Spida or not?
10. Collingwood - maybe a risk. Don't know what their salary situation is, but with David Fanning and Travis Cloke as coverage for Fraser, they'd probably like a ruckman.
11. Bulldogs - long shot. With Aker on board and so much young talent, I can't see them having the space to take on Spida as well.
12. Melbourne - long shot. Have White, have Jamar... tend to like to use White for most of the game.
13. Fremantle - very unlikely. Definitely topping up, but with Sandilands I can't see the ruck being a priority.
14. Adelaide - maybe a risk, with Clarke gone and Biglands retired. Has there been any indication of their salary situation?

Seems Lyon is keen to get an experienced ruckman for the Saints:

Lyon said one of his first tasks would be to chase an experienced ruckman. But he refused to confirm whether or not he would try to lure Peter Everitt back to the club.

There are a few options for him - Everitt included. It'll be interesting to see whether one of Lyon's first acts as St kilda Coach will be to gazzump his former club. Butters seemed pretty defensive about whether they'd be interested in signing Spida during his infamous interview for "On the Couch" though. Not sure that he sees Peter as being the sort of Generation "Y" type he wants around the place.

Good analysis.

Actually the "risk" clubs you mention all have valid claims - never really thought about it - will come down to $$ and their realistic expectation of winning a flag in the next couple of years. Also the fact Everitt would come to them for nothing (excl salary).

St.K - deficiency has been made public by the new coach, they would give it some serious consideration considering Gherig & Harvey are most likely playing their last seasons, and there is no no. 1 ruckman.

Melb - White is their best but is only 196cm and was towelled by Sandilands.

Coll - backups for Fraser haven't come on, if he goes down they are in trouble.

Adel - have no one bar untried juniors, probably the best chance of the lot considering their older champs are in the same boat as Syd.

Very interesting day tomorrow.

Don't forget salary cap problems for the majority of these other clubs.

If these clubs pick up a 32 yr old & it doesn't work out for them, then they won't look too good considering they haven't been too successful in recent years.
If it doesn't work out for the Swans, well our recent success will get us off the hook.

We'll get him for pick 33, or better still...............in the PSD for free.

He's 32 years old guys & he'll have a hefty price on his head.
Even $300,000 a year will scare many clubs away.

And remember this. Clubs develop good & bad relationships with each other in previous years trades. The Swans have a great relationship with most clubs in previous years & that counts for something.
For example........If Adelaide are interested in picking up Spida, the may do the right thing by him & the Swans & let him go to the Swans. We're not talking about a 21 year old after all.

And as for the hawks reputation............................ well.... Pelchin & Clarkson have a poor history, don't they?
We'll see how their reputation holds up when they want to trade in future years with the other 15 clubs.
You can hear the doors closing one by one.

The Swans will get what they want alright ............ through the PSD!
And the Hawks (who have finished in the bottom 4 for the last 4 or5 years)..............................well..............they showed us didn't they!

Hehehehe..................

Maybe Pelchen will get what he wants afterall.

From the Age newspaper.

With neither Sydney nor Hawthorn prepared to be the first to blink, the poker game being played over Everitt may be settled by unexpected means today. Last night, Sydney's ability to meet the terms Everitt would need to nominate to get past the 14 clubs that precede Sydney in the pre-season draft was in doubt, which strengthened the prospect of a deal being struck before today's trade deadline.

Hawthorn has refused to accept Sydney's offer of a second-round pick for the 32-year-old Everitt, selection 33, and is after an exchange of its fourth-round pick for the Swans' third to release him.

Told you!!

Pick 33 for Everitt. Whatever other picks are swapped to finalise the deal are just to make Clarkson, Pelchin save some face!!

It's rediculous to have gone this far.

Swans original offer is 3rd round pick.
Hawks say no, we want 2nd round pick.
Swans sleep on it & next day say OK! We'll give you 2nd round pick!

Then big knob Pelchin says no............we want 1st round pick.

How do you Hawk supporters feel now, knowing that these clowns are in charge of your football club.
Fancy wasting valuable trading time, just to teach a 32 YO a lesson.
No chance of getting Thornton.................zilch...........because they are unreasonable. There are many other possible on trades hawthorn could have done but took too long to get pick 33. This will come back to haunt them in future years of trading IMO.
Cheers!
