Club Focus Tasmania 2028 - The List Build

The new Tassie team needs to make use of the top Tassie talent coming through in the 2026 draft imo, if they dont they will miss out on a lot of good AFL level talent for when they do enter the comp.
I am also curious on how the Tassie state league is going?

Surely a few local Tassie mature agers that are 21 to 24 years old will be looked at

A lot of the good tassie players go to SANFL or WAFL, if they don't get drafted.

There may be 1 or 2, but I doubt their is many. I think they are doing a VFL team the year before, so it would be good to add them to that team and then the best few can make the team.

Norwood has 13 of them on their playing list. 5 or 6 of them came alone in this off season

Charlie Bovill
Hugh McCallum
Ryder Bugg
Ewan Dillon
Archie Devine
Brodie Speed
Blake Philpott
Jacob Stretton
Jess Bula

Possible first Tasmania players listed

Archie Devine will probably be the first battle ground topic for the Tasmania list build.

Going to be interesting to see how it plays out in the media over there and will be a bit of a test case for some young players with the media scrutiny and local pressure to commit to the Tassie side.

He's unlikely to be an absolute top pick next year, but he was Tassie's captain in the u/16 champs last year in what is a very good crop and was probably unlucky not to be AA given some of his team mates were named and he was clearly better.

He's NGA eligible to North in what will be the final year of the NGA academy and under the leaked concessions will get the choice to enter the draft and nominate for North or sit 2027 out and play for the Devils VFL side and be prelisted for the AFL side in 2028.

North getting better might add a layer to it also.

The other layer is his Grandfather (John - Cats 1963 premiership player, 1986 Geelong senior coach) is in the Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame (despite being Victorian) and one of the rarer examples of a Victorian going the other way. Archie's old man Robbie was a legend of North Hobart also.

Jess Bula is also North NGA eligible and will need to make the same decision.

There is no Tassie state league anymore the geniuses at the afl decided to change structure it finished at the end of last season. it’s now changed to having three regional based comps one in the south, north and northwest we were supposed to be having a vfl team this year which all the better players would have played in but the afl have delayed the team for another year , so the majority off better players have left and moved to the SANFL and VFL unbelievable incompetence on the afl’s part 🤦‍♂️

That sucks eggs.

The old TSL had 8 or 10 sides such as Launceston and burnie and North Hobart.

It wasn't a strong league but there were always a few AFL draftees emerging from that state

Those clubs still remain.

Just playing in the 3 divisions.
It’s not a very good set up at all the southern comp will be alright as it’s made up of all former tsl clubs except Brighton, the northern comp will be terribley one sided you will see regular 100 point smashings having a dominant club like north Launceston play against small clubs is ridiculous ,
