I think his disposal is ok, but not in front of goal of course. He's very handy depth in future IMO but not a best 22 member
It's unlike you to write off a young player as depth only after one season considering how you flame others for doing the same (i.e. Jones, Mchenry, Mcasey).

I still am bullish about Berry. Strong mark, strong over the ball, he just needs a tank and a run at it.

He reminds me of Sloane in his first years. He might not reach peak Sloane levels but I can see him being a good mid.

Yeah weird treatment of Berry I thought. When he was near it he was defensive.

I’m probably a bit more bullish on Berry than some here, but he’s been a bit invisible this preseason.

I do feel we did him a bit if a disservice last year by giving him so many games in the 1’s later in the season last year. He clearly projects as a midfielder, yet spent the entire year (17 games) labouring as a defensive small forward in a bottom 4 team. This having not played any football the year before.

He seems to be following a similar trajectory to Jones, different player, but similarly struggling to transition from small forward to midfielder. I think spending too much time as a small forward can be harmful for midfield development, I think it saps confidence and hampers more natural gameplay.

I think giving these guys a taste of footy through this role is not unreasonable, but have to be very careful of not letting them get stuck there unless they project in the role longer term.

I'm in full agreement with you bar the "tank" bit, Sam's tank is one of his real assetts, has tested in the top 5% of his draft class as a junior for endurance right through. Just a tick over 3.00 20m sprint says he ain't slow and a 94cm running vertical jump put him near the pointy end for his hops. Anyone that's using this season's hotch potch pre-season scratch games as a guide can't be taken serious in Berry's case.

I flame people for being totally disrespectful to said players rather than saying he'll be a very good depth option.

I see Pedlar, Harry, Taylor, Ned, and potentially Soligo as better prospects and probably another top 6 pick to come in. Plus Rachele in bursts.

Keays will be around for a while too who's a similar player with a bit more legspeed. Then I suspect we'll be targetting players in a trade.

The comparison with Sloane is a reasonable one at first glance, but Sloane has always been a reasonable field kick and a very solid kick for goal. If he ends up 75% the player of Sloane's calibre he's doing well

Are we talking about the Sam Berry who has only just turned 20?

fu** a duck!!!
Yep, the same Berry that got more games than any 1st year player that we've had for a long time. Like someone else said, he reminds you of Sloane. Very hard working, extremely disciplined, very good compete-er and contest-er, bounces up quick and is energetic. Think his ceiling, though an unglamourous one, is one of the highest of all the players on our list.

Very clean hands and good above his head. Takes some really underrated grabs.

Got inside mid written all over him, but so does the rest of our current midfield.

Where has Milera been training?

With the team likely picked for crows, is he playing forward, wing or back?

B: L.Brown - Butts - Doedee (Macpherson Def)
HB: B.Smith - N.Murray - C.Jones
C: Hinge - Sloane - Dawson (Milera Wing)
HF: Rachelle - Fogarty - Mchenry
F: Himmelberg - Thilthorpe - Soligo (S.Berry FWD)
R: ROB - M.Crouch - Keays (Schoenborg Onball)
Sub: Sholl

Vision of Sholl in the whites team which was 2nds side today

At least he seems a bit more aware of where the list is at then what some people like Justin Reid have been saying.
This is what I've been saying.

If Kelly, Ogilvie and the coaching staff know where things sit then that's what I'm listening to

Reid never said we were further advanced than we are. All he said was that you normally require 4 years of going to the draft for a rebuild and we were half way through that. It wasn’t a comment on where our performances were at, just that we’d invested in 2 drafts already.

I think we're stuck planning around Fog being our 2nd key forward, purely due to how high maintenance he as a footballer, with Gollant (if he stays healthy, he's a shoe in for at least a third tall role), Thilthorpe really covering those deficiencies. Still I really like the potential of a Thilthorpe/Gollant 1-2 punch to build around.

That said, I don't know if I'd be confident Fog output picks up even with a better side, with the problem being there really isn't much to his game. On top of a better side also means a more diverse range of goal scoring options, and Fog isn't the player our forward line is built around. The "he gets 8-10 kicks as a leadup forward and 2-4 goals a game" is a pipedream, not withstanding colemans are won with a 2.5-3 goal average. My guess is what we saw this year is the output we're going to get for Fogs career if he stays confident/healthy. That 6 kick/9 disposal player who is going to range between 25-40 goals per year and has 2-3 quarter/half game bursts per year where he's genuinely impactful (a factor I don't give Fog enough credit for) before reverting back to his inconsistent standard. The type who are made for a league with a salary cap.
Had this one booked marked.
2.5 goals a game ave over past 10 games is getting there but there's so much more to like.
Soligo to Fogarty is brilliant to see

Yup, he's broken out and then some, and how this build needed it.
