Draft Day is here

Unlike last year when the excitement of adding No.1 pick Harley Reid to our list was palpable (and also near certain), this draft is uncertain and viewed with equal parts excitement and trepidation

We go into the first night with pick 12, which is expected to slide to 15 after academy and Father Son selections and a lot of guesswork on who we’ll take. Or even if we actually use that pick with rumours circulating that we might trade up or back

Night two we have pick 26 (subject to change) along with a gaggle of late picks. Again, there’s the possibility of trading into the draft with another pick using one of our later future picks and even less certainty on who we might pick

The one near guarantee is that NGA product, Malakai Champion, will be an Eagle at some point over the next couple of days

So sit back and watch to see how the draft unfolds whilst praying we don’t do something stupid

Wasn’t online during the draft but I assume people are relatively happy?

Traded down, got another pick in the third round and still managed to pick up the best WA player who was projected to go earlier.

I’ve got no idea why Port did that trade. Surely they were pretty confident we weren’t going to take Berry if we were prepared to let them ahead of us. Nice to pull one over them for once.
Freo also keen, safer to trade in yourself than risk it going to someone else.

This is not an exaggeration when I say there is no light at end of tunnel when Kelly and Yeo leave.

I can't see a single mid in our squad beside Harley Reid and Clay. Putting faith in Hewitt/Hutch is such a cop out and excise at this stage

The club we love is crumbling right in front of us and you rage that we melt.

Thanks for the reassurance. You can see the wce coloured googles when players are hyping up Bo Allen.

Lol at players describing ginbey and Allen as causing havoc off half back when they have at best average kicks.

Nothing against Bo Allen but he's an elite rotham replacement which isn't that bad
Hewett!
At least creative a realistic discussion, what you’ve posted is just rubbish!

Love this because the club has clearly leaked it to make it sound like this bloke is a stud, but in reality it just makes it look like they’ve refused to change their offer for 20 picks in a row.

I'm tired and quite a bit pissed off not being able to trade back in for anything remotely reasonable. We went hard to upgrade to GWS 3rd pick.

Essendon dogged us as per ****ing usual.

Richmond said don't bother unless it was basically what they got from North.

Swans didn't want to talk.

Dogs wanted our future first straight up for 20.

Can you say what we offered GWS?

That was a strange pick from them

Given what North gave Richmond I’m stunned GWS didn’t do a deal with them tbh

Based on the market that Norf have just set I would let Shanahan go to Essendon tomorrow with pick 45 for their F1, 37 and 39.

The trade is players, not for picks. If north rated Whitlock in top 10, then they would

Can we trade our next pick now for:

Richmond’s future 1st.
Perhaps saints 1st.

Why the hell not if that’s the value.

Flip it on those Richmond tossers who seem to clearly be able to negotiate well for their club. So well that other clubs, who shall remain unnamed, don’t mind being bent over, as long as they are involved in a trade with Richmond. Like touching Jesus.

Wow, it seems like teams are really valuing this draft highly.

The price North paid could very well be what teams offer for the next three or so picks tomorrow too.

As much as I’d love to grab an extra early pick for next year, if Jobe is available and rival teams are making crazy offers, you’ve got to be smart and prioritize the proven talent over the uncertainty of next year.

What’s the book on him in your estimation, and how have so many KPFs gone prior if he is this clear cut value?

At the very least seems like a very sellable pick.
I'm basing my estimation on his talent on field, he is a really good contested mark, lead up forward with a smooth beautiful kicking action. Kicked a few bags for bombers in VFL, very good at championships.
Eagles apparently had real interest at pick 12 such his the talent.

Agree we could get some good offers for it.

Only really Armstrong and Faull who went ahead of him, Armstrong tested well and was always earmarked top 15. Faull more of a surprise and who I expected to still be on the board now.

Maybe he doesn't interview well or something in testing perhaps. Maybe Tigers wanted Faull more as he's more lead up the wings CHF vs Shana inside 50 fwd.

Swans are crying out for tall fwds and backs, took two small fwds.

Both future seconds & our current second pick for what ended up being 24 and their future second.

Lots of discussions tomorrow morning and early afternoon which may change the order however 6 of the clubs top 30 are still in play.

I'm done for the day. Goodnight peeps.

With someone like you let’s start with spelling first and then work forward.
It’s Bo Allan and Hewett.

Now have a good deep think exactly what price freo actually paid for Bolton…

Based on shenanigans that just went on, it’s clear we overpaid for baker and Carlton overpaid for pick 3.

Thanks.

What interests me is, as you say, Swans crying out for a tall, as were North. To have them all go without taking him, plus Richmond x2, is interesting.

Will always cop that I know absolutely nothing about any draft class, but I’m wondering if there would be a good market for him given all that, hopefully could help add some free good picks into our hand or we just bite the bullet and take him, lean on a JWill AReid and Shanahan forwardline for the future.

Thanks to North, based on the price for Pick 27 we might have just had the steal of the century 👀👀👀👀👀👀

It’s not the worst result mate, we go in with a strong hand next year in what looks a good WA draft pool. Don’t sell your souls tomorrow to move up a couple of spots. Still plenty of good options on the board.

We had the academy / FS's on the board. Lalor, Ashcroft, FOS, Langford, Lombard, Draper, Smith, Allen, Lindsay, Reid.

I can't go any further as there are still a couple of top 20 players on WCE board in play.
Well Smith went pick 3 and by our list Bo was next best after him .

Nothing like Rotham

Best outcome for WCE get a quality player & hold all the future picks

Yeah, pretty much this. Even picked up a live pick for a pick downgrade to get a player we were always going to get.

Cannot really be irritated with it, really. The pick 3 downgrade is in the past now, what we've done tonight was fairly good with what we had. Would have been far more irritated at giving up our future picks.
