Banning people from having an opinion on the internet that you don't like. You sound a bit like that Albo bloke in Canberra.

How many f**king times do you want to say and hear the same thing over and over and over.Haven’t you read the last 500 pages of vitriol? Yes we know it was a bad deal, yes we know Baker is not a champion, yes we know we may have picked up an 18yr old who could “potentially” be a champion, yes your opinion is important to us.But lets hear the talk of where he fits in and how it helps us going forward. No need to preface everything with the past. It’s done and he’s part of our family.People can be as bitter as they like but no need to try and spread that bitterness. I think every Eagles player will love having this bloke around.

For the Brock and Grunston overused and unfunny joke value.
Ill Allow It Spanish GIF

Questionable.

This was their injury list at the end of the season. Not exactly stacked with quality. Lynch is cooked and Gibcus, whilst showing promise, has been injury-riddled his entire career.

The rest don't exactly scream 'quality' right now. At least not quality enough to win a game with, let alone avoid the spoon.

No point picking a random week to try to prove your point. Better to look at how many games they actually played.

A skinny 198cm 20 year old played in a winning VFL premiership.

Picked up as a rookie.

Suns were required to cut deep after losing its extra rookie spots and getting another academy haul in.

Guess how long it took McGovern to debut.

Or Ben McKay.

He's 22 in a fortnights time, so he probably should have shown something beyond 10 disposal average at VFL level. As a defender, Barnett showed more in the WAFL.

Nothing else you wrote really convinces me he has anything to offer.

When you're limited to 2 train ons per available list spot, and we're blowing one on Brock, I was hoping someone who's seen him play can elaborate a bit.

I just can’t agree on the draft capital bit. My initial post was highlighting with regret how we paid 14 for baker in a year where > Sydney were willing to pay 19 and 22 for 14 > and north were willing to pay their F1 with a second coming back for 27.

Ergo trading 14 snowballed on us to the point where it could have been turned into pick 22 this year and north’s F1 next.

Hopefully I’m underrating baker and he better than Duggan for us and is our sixth best player or something like that. But even if that’s true would you say if a team offered us north’s F1 and 22 this year for Duggan you wouldn’t have wanted to pack his bags?

Probably a bit of a tired overdone conversation now anyways.

If Sydney were willing to pay 19 and 22 for 14 then why didn't they try to swap 19 and 22 for a better pick in 12.
As far as i am unaware they never asked.

Hmm, that kind of reinforces my opinion that their list was severely devoid of quality to begin with, tbh.

Apart from Grimes and Hopper, their best players played more than half a season.

For all the crying the media did over their injuries, they weren't nearly as bad as ours to key players last year and they ended up losing an extra game.

I can't see them not 'winning' the next 3 spoons.

The 2023 VFL grand final will be available online somewhere. He played in that.

Not sure if other VFL games are available.

Anyway the club knows more than we ever will. And there's a reason why they've asked him to be a train on player.

Just to be clear

The 2 train on per available list spot is at the same time. It’s possible to have more than 2, just not concurrently

So we’re not blowing a train on spot as such. There’ll be others we can look at over the course of the preseason

And we didn’t pay as much as Bolton, Riewoldt, lynch, Cotchin and Rioli.

No one has ever said he is game’s elite and we didn’t pay as though he is game’s elite.

But high b&f means he has high impact. Shite players don’t finish high in b&f.
Ben Keays won Adelaide’s BnF this year, go and ask Adelaide supporters what they think of Keays.

Ah fair nuff, I wasn't aware of that.

HUN running an article about Rowell and Allen

ALLEN WANTS LONGER DEAL FROM EAGLES

Eagles star forward Allen and West Coast will recommence contract talks now that the trade and draft period is over.

But at this stage their offer is not longer than five seasons even though Allen is only 25 years old.

Allen would like a six or seven-year contract as a star free agent after Adelaide’s Darcy Fogarty signed a six-year pre-free agent deal and Richmond’s Noah Balta was locked in for seven more seasons after giving away his free agency rights.

Allen is back in training after playing the last 10 games after a 14-week spell out with a knee injury and while he will have to manage that knee for the rest of his career is confident he can play well into his 30s.

But at this stage West Coast is still cautious on the kind of long-term deals that saw them lock in Andrew Gaff for six seasons as he played only five games in his final year.

The club was able to extricate itself from the last year of Jack Darling’s long-term deal by trading him to North Melbourne for a late pick.

But the Eagles signed Nic Naitanui for two more years despite knee issues in 2022 and he did not play another game, retiring halfway through the contract.

So West Coast will have to weigh rival interest and continue negotiations with Allen’s management, aware it could open them up to him leaving for a club prepared to risk his injury history with a long-term deal.

I like this approach. Yes we risk losing Oscar to restricted FA next year but so what. We are likely finishing bottom 4 so would pick up a top end pick. We need to see if Oscar can get through a season as it has hardly been filing us all with confidence he is right.

A good time to be setting the new levels of commitment. I'd rather we know in 2025 that when he is a UFA. Also gives us a chance to say to the AFL what is the compo and we decide whether we match or not if he gets a rival offer. Alternatively, we might just find it a swap with Warner come end 2025. Both clubs would be seen as winners. There is rarely a straight swap so please do not come back and say it won't happen. You can decide what needs to be done to make it a fair deal. We will also need to see in 2025 how Shanahan and Archer develop. But in terms of where we are strong, we have good depth with our talls.

So thinking about Matty Clarke, the list manager is meant to

1. Manage the list within a salary cap :whitecheck:
2. Recognise when players are past their best or when their trade value is better than their retain value
:whitecheck: Barrass and Darling were good moves
3. Have good relationships with our own players' managers to ensure the best talent stays at the club.:question:Need to see more evidence
4. Be able to entice other players to the club:whitecheck: Owies, Baker and Graham is a great start. Over the past 10 years, we only managed to get Jetta, Witherden, Hunt and Flynn across to us so this is a significant shift.
5. Understand the coaches game plan and the direction of the game and ensure our list reflects this :whitecheck:
6. Make tough decisions on moving players on :whitecheck: From what he did this off season, he ticked every box that I could tell.
7. Work with the Recruitment manager to ensure we understand the draft and have the right flow of talent in the list. :question:Need to see more but most media outlets had us as the best performer in the draft given it's draft hand
8. Negotiate deals for trades and draft picks ❌ Based on the Baker deal he needs help. The Don was in his first year and perhaps King Nessie I would have been better support.

So far, he is looking the goods bar the negotiations. That can be supplemented or given to another person

There were calls for his head yet I am not with you. Yes he needs help and we now know where. Negotiating trades. The Don needs to get him help

There’s been rumours on our board for several months now, that originate from a Lions podcast co-hosted by the local afl.com reporter, that we are after Oscar Allen.

The other co-host is a local radio personality, big Lions nuffie, and has genuine connections within the club.

This not some nuffie podcast (they’re doing a live event this Thursday night in a 530 seat theatre with Chris Fagan).

Agreed

The calls for his head a few months into the job were completely ridiculous tbh

What you got to trade if we decide to match?

Is it BLFC_Phil?

In lots of sports there are trades for 'conditional' picks, eg. Player plays x number of games they get a 2nd rounder instead of a 3rd. Really think it would help even up trades and protect both teams while also enabling players more freedom of choice on where they go.
We would get more if we didn't match. Most probably a top 5 compo pick.
Remember how the Barrass (yes under contract) worked out. Most thought we got unders for that trade.

No no no.

Given the acquisition of jobe. Completely halt all negotiations with Oscar Allen. Restart negotiation with Oscar at the end of 2025.

Who knows maybe archer or jobe can cement a spot at chf

Whitlock and Boxshall.

Essendon would have drafted Shanahan.
Hey mate, fascinating reading. Apologies for us swooping in and grabbing Boxshall from your waiting arms!

I knew bugger-all about him prior to the draft but he sounds like a goodun. Obviously you guys thought so too, if you were prepared to take him at 31, and we gave up an F2 for him, which also speaks volumes.

Do you happen to know what sort of time he did for 20m? Sounds like he has great endurance and a good leap, but haven’t heard what his explosiveness is like at all.
