The thing about a board, is that it's a board. There are a number of people bringing different skills at different times to bear. The last thing you want is everyone in lockstep as there is no innovation then.

Just for a second there, I thought you were talking about this board ;)

...... She does have corporate sloganeering down to a tea though and sounding the part, lots of words no real depth.
I posted earlier that her little spiel on her Linkedin profile looked like she had used a buzz word generator but I'm confident that Kochie, Amanda Vanstone and others on the board have enough experience to see through any lack of substance.

What. You don't think it is a very negative post? Would you really trust an opposition opinion over Kochie and KT. Really?
Nah, I thought it was a pretty standard, albeit negative opinion, not different to many written by Port supporters in this thread. It was respectful so the fact that it came from a West Coast supporter is immaterial to me.

It probably explains exactly why we need her on our board. People are so reluctant to move with the times or accept something out of left field. This is the next generation coming through. The world moves ever faster these days. She faces an uphill battle in gaining acceptance in this environment due to her age and persona, perhaps being seen as overconfident, but just wording cliches would not have got her to where she is already, she is obviously able to drag people along with her. I look forward to even more innovation and energy from our already innovative club. Kochie and KT are no idiots and Vanstone definitely isn't either and they did not rush into this appointment.

As a club that relies heavily on personality recruiting of players, adding a board member who as a 10 year old had the gumption to hassle Mick Malthouse on his walks to find out what he thought about the game seems like a no-brainer.

I don't think she's a walking cliche generator, but even if she was it's not going to matter. Assume the worse case, that she's 100% doing it for pure self-promotion and has zero useful ideas. KT and Koch aren't going to run with ideas that would be counter-productive. And even then as the club will boost her image, our association with a strong young female role model will do good for the club, even if she turns out useless. Again I think she's going to contribute positively, but there's no lose in this situation for the detractors here. It's only degrees of win.

Congrats on this appointment. I'm very impressed with the move towards geniune board diversity and away from jobs for the boys. Diverse boards perform better. Holly is well respected in the east, especially among emergent leaders, and I'm talking those in already senior positions who are under the age of 40. You should have absolutely no concerns on this appointment. It speaks volumes about your club that you've gone this approach.

Thanks for your insight. Seems like an educated opinion, regardless of your "credentials".

I don't believe it is an educated opinion.

There was no substance to this post in any way shape of form. In fact what was the purpose of this post? it said nothing.

Claims of dealing with her are made who knows if this is true.

What is an over achiever for goodness sake? seriously how can you over achieve? sounds like a comment made by someone who has never achieved anything or has had minimal success themselves then goes on to claim that "over achievers" only fit into two categories neither of which have any substance or worthwhile qualities, what a bizarre and bitter comment to make.

Then we have a claim she big notes herself on social media by saying its an honour to meet so & so ? you have to be twisted to make that assumption based on this.

Finally he/she claims that they "had heard" she didn't really achieve much at Rotary, no evidence is presented to support this. he/she doesn't claim to know first hand so at best this is second or third hand at best this sounds more like a piece of professional jealousy than anything else. And the facts, should anyone take the time to check are a total contradiction of this empty claim

I would suggest that before coming on here with glib one liners to degenerate her achievements a thorough investigation of her background (not a Google search) is carried out (as KT and DK did) over many months.

Then and only then can you with any authority comment and present evidence to support your claims.

Otherwise bugger off

Well said!

To be fair it's your credentials that identify whether your opinion can be considered 'educated'. If he is the janitor, his opinion on her abilities is worth far less than the CEO's, though his opinion on her personality would be equally valid.

I would imagine that Holly Ransom and Catherine Tanna, CEO of EnergyAustralia, might hit it off:

When Catherine Tanna took the top job at EnergyAustralia a year ago, her brief was to restore value to a power company suffering from a slump in demand and sector expectations, as well as a fair amount of reputational damage.

So far, all is going to plan, and if the momentum continues, EnergyAustralia’s $30 billion Hong Kong parent company CLP (the former China Light & Power) can be expected to reprise abandoned 2012 plans to extract value through a float or some other form of selldown.

EnergyAustralia was the star performer in CLP’s interim profit this month, spurring analyst upgrades thanks largely to improvements put in place by Ms Tanna, who was previously BG Group Australia chair and is on the Reserve Bank of Australia board.

“When I took the job I was asked by the owners to restore value to the business. It’s early days, but there are early signs of good progress,” she told The Weekend Australian, in her first set of media interviews since taking the job on July 1 last year. “The underlying profit of the business improved and we aspire to have that momentum continue.”

CLP had planned a $3bn Australian float in 2012 of 49 per cent of the business, then known as TruEnergy and run by Richard McIndoe, but pulled back because of shaky equity markets and billing system glitches. But the Hong Kong parent still has designs to crystallise more of the value it wants Ms Tanna to restore to its Australian power generation and retail assets.

“They intend to be a long-term owner but that doesn’t mean they want to own 100 per cent of the business forever,” Ms Tanna said, noting there were no selldown plans under way and nothing was ruled in or out as to how it could be done. “They think long-term and support the restoration of value and investment, if we can sustain the business improvement, we can find value for a partial return to them.”

Under Ms Tanna, there has been a strategy and organisational review that has flipped the end of the business the company focuses on, cut between 150 and 200 Melbourne head office jobs and resulted in a senior management team that is 50 per cent female.

The latter would be remarkable in any big organisation but it is a dramatic change at EnergyAustralia. ...... ..... .....

Our 2014 'two-years + option for one more' deal with EA expires this year. I'd be asking if Holly should be involved, but I'm hardly an original thinker.

I like it. Boards, like other collections of individuals, need a mix of people, ideas and opinions.
Some appointments will work others will fail but only time will tell the whole story on a success or failure.
The last thing I want from our club is to end up like the dusty and piss soaked dinosaurs of the sanfl and some other organisations not too far from us.
