OK it's the off season but there is so much speculation as to what Stephen Wells will do with our 2 picks at the draft i thought it may be a good idea to have a bit of a comp for bragging rights as to who we will pick.

Everyone seems to have an opinion so post who you think we will pick at pick 16 & 79 and more importantly why and then when the draft is done hopefully someone is right and can be declared our draft guru.

Good luck and i really hope someone can get it right. It would be a super effort.

Well, I could tell you who 79 will be, but then I would have to kill everyone who reads the Board.

16-Stringer
Why: Was talked up as likely to go in the mini draft last year untill he broke his leg. He is a champion and could bring a big presence to our midfield as a replacement for Corey.
79-Sam Heavyside
Why: at pick 79 it's way to hard to tell as almost no one can predict accurately beyond 30. however I will have a go though I just stole his name from knightmare's draft at around our pick as he seems the right type. An inside mid who was injured during the under 18 carnival so only the better recruiters like Wells would know much about him, he is meant to be very good and possibly a steal. Other options would be PSD, or drafting a mature age player.

16. Kennedy
79. Sandra S.

Kennedy would really add to our future inside mid/extractor team alongside Selwood and Caddy allowing Christensen to play more of an outside mid and in turn allowing him not to kill himself. He also has pace to burn which is a great quality to have for a mid of any kind. I would prefer Stringer or Menzel here but I think they will both be gone.
Pick 79 is anyone's guess but it could turn out to be an Egan like pick which would be amazing (hopefully no injuries though), from the very brief moments I have seen him play this year I think it would be a good speculative pick for us that could really pay off.

Big fan of SS, hope he is not another S Thompson.

Most people who read stuff I post will know that I think Nick Vlastuin is a good show for our #16. I also think he is a good fit for us.

But this is a competition and I like standing out from the crowd.

#16 - Taylor Garner - To be honest 16 is probably a bit high based on what I've seen but considering Geelong doesn't get another crack until 79, and having secured Caddy, that might be all the ammo Geelong needs to take a punt on a guy that has a bit of Nat Fyfe about him. I wouldn't expect him to play next year but I'd look to secure him with an eye on the future. There is some X-Factor with Garner that might be just a little too temping. (Smoky: Jesse Lonergan)

#79 - Byron Sumner - "mature" ager who had a stint in Sydney, got cut, went back to SA and became a rebounding half back flanker. Has good speed, finds a way through traffic and has good foot skills. With Wojcinski retiring and Josh Hunt, Corey Enright and Andrew Mackie not getting younger he presents a bit of here-and-now and down-the-track. Could play next year but has youth on his side. There would be a lot worse out there at 79 (and this way I don't name "he who shall not be named") Jackson Thurlow - from Tassie, racked up some pretty impressive numbers during the Champs this year playing behind the ball. Half back flanker who is listed between 189cm & 191cm. Good reader of the play. Coming back from a nasty facial injury. **This pick is looking less and less assured** (Smoky: Tim Sumner)

Menzel,Stringer, etc all gone . Jessie Lonerhan is a realistic chance but I will guess at

P16 Taylor Garner , a sort of a Menzel type but a bit less developed. Maybe a bit more erratic but potential to make some wonder how he made it to P16. Thats always pleasing.

Nightmare says...
Garner is an interesting player who can play forward or through the midfield to a high level. Up forward looks dangerous and is a strong marking target. 1v1 marking ability good and has some ability in the air. Has a great leap on him and can take a hanger. Tackling ability good.

Sounds like a good fit to me

*******

Our late pick is a Hail Mary. It could easily be Sandra or Darcy Fort. Having a look at my nots from the champs 2 names are possible this late. Mathew McDonough basically a small forward with a goal ability like Chappy. We are stocked for this type so I'll go another kid ....

P79 Harry Marsh , Imagine a 188cm version of Harry Taylor , ironic considering their first name. I see him as another possible replacement for the HB line in a a couple of years. Very nice kick , good leap and backs himself to mark it
(or thats the way I remember it)

Nightmare says...
Defender who has is probably more of a 3rd tall at the next level. Marsh is an offensive minded defender with strong marking ability and ability to read it in the back half. Marsh is an above average athlete and has a really nice leap on him. Marsh is also a very solid shut down defender and can do a lock down role when required and do it well. Has very good kicking ability and can easily find his targets up the field.

To quick for me on Garner :thumbsu:

I'll have a stab.

#16 Jake Stringer - Might not make it to our selection but here's hoping.

#79 Aidan Corr.

For the meat tray...

16- Tenzel.... late mail about an incident as a child (from someone else named Menzel) slides his bro to us at 16 :p

79 - Voldemort... How could Emma Watson ever do anything wrong.........
