I think there's almost no chance we take all picks to the draft
If we decide we are getting malceski I'm sure we will work out a trade deal rather than damage our fa compo
If we do have fa compo you can bet one of them will go on the table for someone chasing a kpp

I can't imagine we'd throw up an early second round pick for a 31 year old - and let's presume round 3 will be used on Stretch.

That leaves an early round 4 pick for Malceski, which will probably be useless to Sydney - so it wouldn't surprise me if they accept a fifth round pick - just to help him get to Melbourne for a final pay day.

And in the circumstance we do get a PP, even if we trade it for a player, it will still take a spot on our list. Imagine we did a player + pick deal like last year.. it would be even ANOTHER spot added!

If we dont offer a good pick then will we have to take him as a free agent thus losing our compo

It's basically our second or fourth pick, and I didn't think we'd be prepared to offer up a second round pick for a 31 year old.

However, I think I just heard Terry Wallace on SEN say that it would probably be the third round pick - but I don't think he had considered that it probably wouldn't be available If we take Stretch as a father son.

We don't need Malceski - he's a nice to have. We need quality young talent to dig ourselves out of this hole long term. If Chip leaves we shouldn't be taking anyone via free agency to dilute our compo. If Sydney are happy to take pick #90 because Malceski wants to retire here, great. If we can package Malceski, Mitchell, Towers up for a 1st round pick or combination, fine. If we can't, oh well.

Other than having Roos as coach and cap space, is there any reason to believe he'd come here? You'd think the Kangaroos might appreciate a solid defender who can kick. If Higgins leaves, the Bullies could do worse than trade him in for a 3rd round pick (and if a forward emerges capable of kicking more than a goal a game, may push finals next year with some luck). Bombers could take a swing as well. Malceski may be 30 (ish) but he's playing good football and if he gets squeezed out at Sydney I would think he'd still be keen to play competitively somewhere else.

Interesting to read other boards to see what supporters are thinking about trades.

On Malceski, he is a Free Agent and if he leaves Sydney, on the formula the AFL uses they would get a second rounder I believe, about pick 40. So on that basis unless you offer a better pick, they won't trade him but let him go via FA which you guys don't want because it would dilute the pick you get for Frawley.

Maybe Stretch will slip to your 3rd rounder which means you could trade your 2nd to Sydney and maybe get a later pick upgraded in your favour?

Another option being touted, is our compo pick (say pick 3) for Malceski and Tom Mitchell.

I wonder if we could get a pick upgrade as well.

Definitely want to trade for Malceski, not take him as a FA. If we take him as a FA that'll water down our Frawley compensation. In real terms, it'll likely bump it down from tier 1 to tier 2, meaning that we go from say pick 5 to pick 19. There is no way Malceski is worth that. Either trade a 3rd rounder or worse for him, or leave it.

Does it make a difference to the compo if they drop him from their list first then we pick him up as a delisted free agent?
Maybe not to our compensation, but it certainly would to theirs. They would go from getting a probably 2nd rounder, to nothing.

I think we're talking O'Keefe aren't we? His value (in terms of compensation or trade) is zero, while Malceski is worth something. O'Keefe will be delisted and can be picked up in any of the delisted FA periods or we can trade him for pick #110.

No compo for delisted free agents. It's designed to give players who get the punt the freedom to continue their career elsewhere without having to go through the draft.

I thought we were talking Malceski, but thinking further I can't see why Sydney would delist him, but there's a real chance they could delist RO'K.

I'd be very surprised if they didn't delist O'Keefe or help him get wherever he wants to go. 34, not getting a game, been a very good player for them for a long time - can't see management over there refusing to orchestrate a deal to get him to the club of choice over potentially receiving a 5th round pick or something.

Malceski is probably statistically the best rebounding defender in the comp? Will not get delisted.

Early predictions (without trying to anticipate any trade scenarios):

OUT:
Blease (delisted)
Byrnes (retired)
Clark (retired - not buying into the comeback rumours)
Frawley (FA)
Nicholson (delisted unless he got a #crazyneeldy 5yr contract)
Strauss (delisted)
Tapscott (delisted)

TO SENIOR LIST:
Jetta (upgrade)
6 x free agent/draft/PSD

LUCKY THEY'RE CONTRACTED (though we can pay them out if we've got space in the 2014 cap, so it's not totally out of the question that one of them could get the chop): Evans, Fitzpatrick, McKenzie

I'm not huge fan of Bail or Terlich but not adverse to giving them a year each to keep some experience around. As much as I'd like to wheel in three top 20 picks and have them play straight away we're the MFC, it seem to work that way.

If we do land Malceski, I could see Terlich in the gun as well.

I cant see terls being sacked because we just dont have the depth in defenders

Who else is there behind him? Strauss?? He is probably getting delisted as well so im sure they will keep him for 1 more year as atleast depth

If we land Malceski and Fasolo and Mitchell and Petracca and Shiel
Then yeah I can see him going

If Terlich gets sacked by Roos twice take his guns away.

I'm warming to the idea of a coach following a player around with the express purpose of sacking him.

"I've made a career out of not liking you, Dean."

I reckon you could find an obscure connection like that in the careers of blokes like Leigh Brown and Ben Hudson.

I reckon you're missing Nicholson from the definite axing list, whether or not he's contracted. I'd also like to see the back of Jordie - love his endeavour but we just can't have blokes with skills like that on our list.

I'd hang onto Blease for one more year.... I'm a glutton for punishment, I know

Would rather hold on to Blease and Tapscott (glutton for punishment too, I know) and see the back of Nicholson and Evans, even if we do have to pay them out. Hell, I'll happily start a BigFooty fundraiser to help kick in the cash if required...

With Strauss gone, we can then rename the 'Trio/Trinity of Disappointment' to the 'Duo of Disappointment/Disillusionment/Despair feat. Fitzy'.

Does a club need to show some sort of just cause or something, to play a player out?

I cant recall the option being used, which seems odd - as we could surely pay out someone like Nicho (say $200,000) in order to free up a spot for a draft pick.

From memory, I think we may have tried to pay out Nathan Carroll - and still faced some difficulty doing it. I may be wrong but this seems to ring a bell.

Jesus, you're not wrong. Serves me right for going from the contracts list - I'll add him and await the news that he's got a 5yr contract.

Nicholson is listed as TBC at the bottom because there wasn't an available link at the time.
