There, agreed with the post without stroking anyones ego.

Problem is, Bigfootys platform is very outdated. most of the posters here are older generation posters who probably aren't interested in something like the SFA and the ones who are, have already tried it out or played here in the past.

There will always be high quality rookie seasons (S32) and other ones where less rookies stick out, cyclical as you said.

I’d argue part of the problem lies with the worsening quality and decreased quantity of good media, where rookies can get their feet wet instead of being bombarded in a match thread.

The S32 rookie class was good, but still a step down on the rookie classes before it.

I think the expectations of growth & turnover in this league is unrealistic ever since COVID lockdowns led to a spike in new participation (combined with Millky95 & haydo both recruiting heavily for failed expansion bids)

The league isn’t drawing the same growth because it’s gone even further into the niche category where a significant amount of background info is required to engage beyond a token “go team” post

Given I wasn’t here pre-32 I’ll take your word for it. And it’s a very fair point that life is returning to normal post Covid and many things are regressing. What was, in your opinion, the standard for rookies pre-C19?

Agreed it’s more niche, which is why I stress I think useful media, could be a way for new/returning persons to enjoy the wider fabric of the SFA within it, without immediately having their mind made up for them with tropes like ‘the bombers are shit, we hate the Gumbies and lolwonders’.

A marquee game before the season starts, the charity games and other ideas have all been helpful in that regard, but we could certainly lift the bar on media.

I think there would be a finite pool of potential rookies that grows smaller every year. Internet forums aren't exactly booming. By what percentage does the BigFooty userbase grow every 6 months and then what percentage of players each SFA season are rookies? I would not be surprised if the latter is still higher and like others have said, you've been going for nearly 25 years, the number of existing users that have never heard of this place would be very low.
