Otten??? Is he a best 22 player?

Dangerfield? Pears? I think Judd is playing better football than these two.

They have Yarran, Gartlett and Betts so I'm not sure Rioli would improve them a whole lot. Dunno how much good Taylor would be if the midfield is getting slaughtered.

Yea, I think Judd might have been a good pick. Armfield is handy too.
Seriously, can some posters keep bias crap posting like this out of threads not related to the Crows? Judd is obviously a better player than Dangerfield and Otten, but it is still a valid point. I think Carlton would be better off with guys like Harry Taylor, Dangerfield and Kennedy over just the one midfielder in Judd.

I would say without a doubt Carlton are better off. I think they are within premiership calculations at the moment because of him and he still has another 2 or 3 years in him. They may not be premiership favourites but if all the Carlton players are playing at their best and two or three key players from the Hawks, Cats or Collingwood has a bad day then they could knock them over.

While Masten is a good player at the moment and Kennedy would be useful I think Judds experience and skills outweigh having those players.

This question is only being asked because people think Masten is a star now and will breakout due to his NAB cup form. Isn't he always pumped up in the pre-season?
I've never seen him play this well in the NAB Cup before, this season is certainly different to previous ones where he has also been pumped up. He could have quite easily gone to Carlton that draft if they had given up pick 1; he was a very highly rated junior for valid reasons.

I think the Eagles won the trade. However if either team wins the flag with those players then that team would have won overall. The question is, would both teams be in the same position if there were no trades. Who knows.

Armfield may not be Bruce Doull but at least he does his job. Masten is a bad kick and will only hurt the eagles. Added to that, he only averaged about 14 disposals in his fourth year even though he played 13 games. While he did get used as a sub a few times, the excuses dry out pretty quickly.

At the least, I assume the eagles would hope the gap in performance between Masten and Armfield would be much greater than it currently is.

The eagles have tried him on a flank at times but it fails more than it works it seems. He's struggled to play any other role than midfield, yet there are a number of other players (Kerr, Shuey, Priddis, Gaff, Ebert, S Selwood) who seem more suited to that role. IMO the eagles should trade him before he loses all currency.

All I have to do is read one post and I already know that you have no idea what you're talking about.

Look at Carlton compared to how low we were before Judd arrived.

Anyone who thinks that trade wasn're a massive win for Carlton is a peanut, its not just he's amazing speed and skills, but also his leadership, Marc Murphy and Bryce Gibbs have become better, more confident players under Judd's guidance.

Judd bashing = Tall Poppy Syndrome

We would not be the position we are in if we didn't get Chris Judd. Simple as that. As much I still love Josh Kennedy and what he's doing in his career, I would prefer to have Judd playing for us in a grand final if we were to make it than Kennedy. Judd is a proven big game player and is a one of the greatest midfielders of all time. Kennedy has a lot of time to go in his career and could be one of the best key forwards of his time, he is a superstar in the making but he has a long way to go.

If anyone needs more proof of why we won out of the Judd deal, just look at Melbourne. Because that's what would've become of us had we not got him.

Maybe not quite as bad as Melbourne, but valid point about the leadership.

We chose well with all our top end picks since 05 (the number 1's and Yarran).

I feel a lot of Carlton haters rate Kennedy because we don't have him now. When he was at Carlton he was considered no more than average potential by many.

Kennedy is very good, but Judd is an all time great and we are certainly better with him.

Yeah, that's why he went Pick 4.

Judd could just about retire today and I would still be happy with the trade.

He has single handedly lifted the morale, professionalism, player culture, teammate confidence and much more since his arrival.

Add to that:
- he is now into his 5th year of excellent football for the club
- him being at the club has played a role in players resigning as opposed to being poached by other clubs, as well as attracting opposition players to the club eg Warnock
- he has played a huge role in the development of our midfielders
- he provided unbelievable leadership at the club when we were so bereft of anyone to take on that mantle
- he has at least another 3 years left in him at the elite level which would equate to 8 years of service at Carlton (minimum). 8 years service of one of the best mids to ever play the game!

Would have loved to have kept Kennedy but there is no way he could have provided any of the above. Not even close!

It is interesting that most that think Carlton stuffed up are non Carlton supporters. Ask any Carlton supporter and I dont know one that would have traded differently!

Probably one of the most important decisions the Carlton FC has made in the last 20 years!
