This is who we should be looking at to replace willie whilst he is around the corner punching bongs .

This was pre 2018 draft

Ben Sokol – 23yo 186cm 85kgs – 2018 avg: 20mtch, 16disp, 7.5mks, 3.2tcks, 43gls, 30bhs
With 92 goals over the past two seasons, Ben Sokol is one that should really be on the radar of clubs looking for a medium marking forward with great endurance.
While not a player comparison, the immediate impact of Bayley Fritsch is something that could be expected of Sokol at senior level, such is his ready-made nature. The fact he can play tall with his marking ability, while also being able to play high up the ground makes him a natural, all-round threat

Plus every time he nails a goal we can say “ice ice baby, Sokol, Sokol..” :p

both of them - I guess my point is they didnt look too hard - they took a risk

They took a risk sure just based on family needs. Rellocating a young family for a job is always a risk even with everyone in full health. Agree with that for sure.

Then post draft two kids diagnosed with autism really ramps up the pressure. Especially after losing the family support group.

Why nuffies are getting all wound up about trhe Kelly's letting this out is just baffling. It doesn't automatically rule out nominating a preferred employer.

Deal is pretty much done already ive been told. A few nicetieis being figured our regarding a swap of 2nd rounders in 2020 to this year may hold it up a little but in principle its done

Eagles will obtain Hawks pick 11 for our 2 2nd rounders which goes to F/S bid. We then trade pick 11 and 14 for Kelly but get a 2nd rounder back this year of some sort from Geelong
So we trade our selves out of the draft ?

If we did 2019 1st and 2020 first for kelly + 2020 pick we would at least have a hand in both drafts.
This year with a good spread of mids around our 25 and 33 we should keep the trend of youth rolling in

.....My view is that we probably lacked the mental hunger to win it this year. In a professional sporting environment, being even the slightest bit off can derail us. We added talent in Gaff, Shep and Naitanui to the team that won through the finals last year, but we’d put ourselves behind the 8-ball by not finishing top 2 (or at least top 4). And that came down to just not switching on enough rather than talent.

Probably says something about some of our players, if they lacked mental hunger to do it for 3 players that contributed so much for them to get the dream run into the Grannie against Collingwood.

You would also question the coaching staff, which is why the "home truth" Mitchell's loss was so crucial.

Still thinking WTF in regards to the Barrass/Gov harry highpants shit.

Or it just takes a lot to go right to win a flag. Nic nats fitness. Hurn not being the same after his injury. JK being caught by Father Time. Barras badly out of form. All these things contribute. Mental hunger is probably the least of it

If this is true, Imma head over to the Geelong Board and watch the melts like butter in a microwave.

I'm not too bothered if the win the flag every even year.

I like this idea better!
We’ve shown over the last few trade/draft periods we can muster something up and get some decent players with mid-later picks

Tim Kelly will get to West Coast if he doesn’t budge with geelong about going to Freo. The reality is, Kelly could put a $1.5mil 1 year Contract figure on his head and enter the draft. No one would draft him then we would be able to pick him up and back end his contract (say 2.5 mil over the last 4 years, 4 mil over 5).

No way Cats are stupid enough to risk letting him walk to us for nothing

In regards to Gaff, based on what we said last night at the Best and Fairest I highly doubt he is going anywhere in the short term.

He was praising NVB and said numerous time he was looking forward to continue to work with him in the coming years

I think he can nominate for either (or both?). I thought the same, but was corrected by a more knowledgeable poster. I guess it would mean that we would just need to trade up to below Freo in that case and tell Tim we'll take him. We can then shop the pick to Geelong and say, if you don't take it, we'll pick him up with it anyway.
Why would we shop that pick? We could offer them something much less like a future second round pick and say take it or leave it. If they didn't trade him for that we would use the higher pick in the draft on him or if they took the lower offering we could use the high pick on another player. We don't owe Geelong anything except disgust in this.

Looking forward to Trade Radio trying to sell him off this week

He’s only a B gaiz 🥴

We should do whatever we can to get pick 3 from Melbourne. Once we have that then the whole game changes.

They can accept 14 + 22 or we keep those and draft him at 3.
Ok, can someone who knows the rules clear this up for me?

Can TK actually go into the draft or would he need to go via the preseason draft? Someone I know is insisting the way all contracts are dated they end after the nominations for the draft are closed making this option invalid.

Sorry, long time reader but thought i should ask, uncontracted players if they do decide to nominate for either the ND or PSD.

Can the uncontracted player name their conditions e.g location and salary? or just monetary value? All this postering by Geelong saying x2 top 10 picks or Gold Coast picks him up doesn't seem right? Surely a player can name some conditions and say in the draft otherwise it would almost be considered a slave trade.

Kelly/Management needs to hold firm and make it clear publicly late in the negotiations Freo is not an option, Geelong does not have all the leverage.

I think Melbourne and Adelaide would play ball.

13 + 24 + Future 1st for pick 3 or 4 and their Future 2nd & 3rd rounder this year.

I am all for hunting pick 3 or 4.

Melbourne look like picking up two fa's plus Langdon. Langdon would be around our pick 24.

14 plus 24 plus a future 1st should get close to 3or 4. Maybe we get a 3rd back as well.

We get 3 that's the deal Geelong. Take it of gtfo flogs.

Yes that’s the hard part. Lots of talk about Gaff so if that happened and I hope it doesn’t then 3 and more is available.
Oh FFS. Can we stop the Gaff crap?

Players who delist themselves can nominate for either draft. Luke Ball did it, Ben Jacobs did it.

They can nominate their contract value and length. They can’t put geographic limits on because that would defeat the purpose of a national draft.
