Wells is asking for two top 10’s. Of course he’s going to start high but I think, unless we trade with Freo, that’s a very unlikely outcome. One top 10 plus 14 is more realistic albeit is still going to require a fair bit of effort to get to.

Probably you’d think will require a player to leave on your behalf unless someone is feeling generous in their acceptance of a future first rounder.

I listened to Wells on Trade Radio. Wells stated "that'd be nice" when asked about two top tens. My interpretation of his response was he said it in a dry humour "yeah, I wish" kind of way.

He did say the WCE 2 first round picks in 2019 and 2020, probably won't get it done. That provides a frame for what Geelong would like. However, given that it is a negotiation, Geelong probably won't get 100% of what they would like. My thinking is two picks in the teens this year get it done, max.

Interestingly enough we do have a trade of picks 6 and 11 to get a gauge on that value

Eagles traded 6 and 44 for 11, 31 and 49.

That puts the value of upgrading from 11 to 6 at about pick 32.

I understand that it is difficult to compare drafts, but that draft was considered to be fairly even beyond the first few picks, as this draft is.

If that valuation is close then 11+14 is more than Neale was traded for while under contract, who had just won the BnF at Freo. Making it overs for Kelly without something coming back. They are similar age and quality.

9 v 11 is probably arguing over semantics if we just look at the number. But you’ve probably hit the nail on the head with regard to your comment about it being difficult to compare drafts. I’m certainly no draft expert however it does appear that there is a top 2 and a top 10 and then a pretty even group of a further 10 or so. Perhaps that’s why Wells is so keen to push for a top 10 pick rather than accept something slightly later. I wonder whether there is a player in mind he’s identified? All speculation of course.

Worth noting that Geelong’s position has already moved from “four first round picks plus Dustin Martin” to “two top 10s would be nice but no one’s got those picks at the moment” and the trade period hasn’t even officially kicked off.

At that rate, by next Wednesday they’ll be paying us to take Kelly off their hands

2020 is like pick 25 its useless in this case

Maxwell Smart - "Would you believe..."

He is not contracted !
Our days of running around trying to please wells are over too .

Your more than welcome to take the picks you get for kelly and try trade up or stick them up you ass for all we care

You and I aren’t conducting the negotiations. I’d say that there’s a fair chance though that WC, at least initially, will explore how to hand over a decent deal that is acceptable to Geelong if it’s possible. Clubs don’t want to burn bridges for future trades down the track.

scott was being sarcastic - ie humerous
geelong have agree to pay west coast to take caitlyn and leave time behind

its more about taking a position
when we had a strong list we completed a number of favourable trades to the opposing clubs
varcoe being one example
In case you don't realise this, I'll point it out:
-If West coast don't receive Kelly, they haven't lost anything.
-If Geelong lose Kelly to the draft, they receive nothing.

Risking pick 14/2020 1st/whatever else is an utterly stupid thing to do.

And the funny thing is a part of me actually wants this to happen just so you and your supporter base go into nuclear meltdown. Because whilst you are happy to posture about now saying you don't care and trying your best to sound macho, deep down you'll melt melt melt on your board and go through the standard 5 stages of grief, with the denial stage lasting an eternity..

Maybe. We’ll see. I’d say it will be somewhere in between as where most negotiations end up ending.

That is stretching things.

The 30 dilutes 19 to what 24

So 6 and 24 versus 11 and 14.

I know what I would take in this draft.

You would take 11 and 14 over 6 and 24? I wouldnt say its worth more especially in a draft like this but each to their own. Anyway my point was more its not far more than previous comparable trades which it isnt.

Dear god, you’ve actually responded to my sarcastic, tongue in cheek post to tell me that Scott was being sarcastic and tongue in cheek.

Please just give up and go away.

If Freo gets involved you will get 7 & 22 (rumoured pick for Langdon).

Freo will hold 6 over your head as draft threat becomes real.

Geelong seem to want to deal with Freo thinking that they are pushovers. Bell has given Freo a much harder edge. Freo will be the ones to bend you over and stick your head in the toilet, not West Coast.

You're not getting a top 10 and 14 so the quicker you move on the better
