I think everyone has expressed their opinion on this topic and we all know where everyone stands. It's just going around in circles now, and quite frankly it's tiresome. I'd suggest the thread be locked.

Btw, just quickly....

Did you all notice the Port white training guernsey with the silver side stripes? If that were extended to the front and back with PBs that would've looked infinitely better for a fulltime AWAY guernsey (away/clash).

I was gonna do a photoshop tweak of some of those training pics to show it. But there's no use because i'd be classified as a non-port fan to engage in pro-PB anti-bolt talk.

gg now you are just baiting, not to mention acting childish. This thread has turned to absolute rubbish just be done with it. if you are such an advocate of the magpie emblem and prison bar jumper over the actual club that was created in 1870 spend your time on the sanfl board talking all things magpie. its about time you got with the reality of the situation and stopped living in the fantasy world.

It's like the Port Magpies, who run around still honoring and celebrating the Port history are seen as imposters, or inferior, or anti-port, while the new port in the afl with lightning and teal and detaching and often avoiding not celebrating/honoring the pre-afl history, is seen as the loadstar.

like, it's ok and good to shed 100 years of our "insignias" our identifiers, because the new afl one (bolt/teal) is more important. it's like betraying it all for the sake of continuity with the new entity/insignias.

you and others are entitled to your opinions/pov of this debate. but what i find enlightening is the fact that ALL my posts bring something to the table, offer clear and in-depth analogies, examples, and arguements for the whys and whynots.....while the claim about being childish or moronic being made on me is being made by people who DONT bring anything to the table but snappy retorts like "youre a moron" or "go support the crows" or "youre a troll" or "get over it".

Obviously it all just means you guys are sick and tired of the DEBATE itself and dont wish to actually DEBATE, discuss, bring things to the table. So be it. But be mindful of the things you sling around at people who do bring stuff to the table. Like Cyrus, Manureid, gg, and others who might be on this side of the debate.

And....if you're all so sick and tired of any heritage-related discussion, then dont be hypocritical because thru the year YOU GUYS yourselves will re-open this debate/discussion when stories or articles surface in the media about this stuff. If you're all committed to NEVER discussing that whole subject, then DONT ever post articles or what Rucci says or what Cornes writes or what Eddie might say, or what the PAFC itself might advertise if they have some pro-PB/heritage type of occasion.....like, for instance, this very season's effort to bring in est 1870, etc, because them doing that DOES open the debate!

oh brother here we go again. The pafc isnt the new club you fool. the pamfc is.

you know, as i mentioned, im sure the club would have done as you suggest, if only the pamfc had not been around, with the sanfl's blessing, pretending to be the official port sanfl custodian.

there's no doubt the pafc should be able to celebrate a moment in time that contributed to its actual AFL being - situations like this add to the sense of anger & frustration that supporters like myself feel.

If the PAMFC did not exist, those guys would not of been honoured. Not many of those guys have had much to do with the Power. Dont blame the existance of the PAMFC for a reason the Power didnt do something. Both can.

A lap of honour or something at a Power game would of been appreciated I am sure. When the time comes I am sure the 2004 flag will be celebrated.
Remeber those guys are a key reason many people starting to watch footy in the 80s follow the Power.

^Your signature somewhat eerily reflects the direction of this thread Geoffa. Dare I say it, but I cannot help but sympathise with gg's point though. I just know that my wonderful, practical, black and white Grandfather could not have given a shit about this debate had he been lucky enough to see a Teal Bolt. Just win you bastards.

Those picture replies are great examples of poor debating skills and contributions.

I dont see the big deal that those who ARE sick and tired and wish not to DEBATE just not enter the thread. Not hard. It's like whining that some show on TV you hate is on but you always keep watching it. Just change the channel.

Those who ARE interested in actually debating, can then do so.

Pretty simple concept.

There's nothing to debate - the decisions have been made by those in charge of the PAFC est. 1870 and the SANFL in 1995-7. Let's move on and use our energy to get the team over the line on 2009.

I wonder if there was any debating going on in the late 1800s when the PAFC est. 1870 changed their guernseys and colours from blue, white, magenta etc to black and white.

If it shits people to tears doesnt seem they are as passionate to me as Collingwood fans, or Essendon fans.
We could learn a thing or two about honoring heritage, self-promoting the history, honoring our old Magpie teams, awards, memoribilia, etc etc etc.
Anyway, people like me Cyrus etc are on the same page at least. I have solace in knowing that.

How about the words of Bruce Abernethy in his book "From Port to a Power"

I know that Port's Board after all their work were over the moon (about winning the second AFL licence), but for me, as a former player and keen spectator, the feelings were relief, happiness, excitement, a lot of pleasant emotions. I knew that if Port hadn't got the AFL nod, in twenty years a once great and proud club would become nothing but a shell. This decision gave my club a future, and in fifty years I could say I played for Port Adelaide, and be proud of it.

If that's ALL that mattered then we wouldnt see the PAFC making steps towards image make-overs like Port Power to PAFC, est 1870, heritage guernseys, PB/maggies on website, live the creed, etc.

Those things prove my point, and show that they do matter. And the odds are we'll see more of it. How about everyone call the club up and complain about their "backwards thinking", their "moronic attitude", etc? No? Thought not.

This whole situation is ironic. GG kicks up a fuss about how if we stop complaining about the prison bar situation, nothing will change. Members of the Big Footy Port Board get the name of the board changed to recognise our history. GG simply continues to complain.

GG, complaining on an internet forum, repeating your opinion over and over again will not change anything at the Port Adelaide Football Club, no matter how much you want it to.

I personally have thought I have stated my opinion on the whole issue but i'll say it again; I support a football club, the Port Adelaide Football Club. I do not support an emblem, colours or a nickname. I am happy when the club recognises its past, through various ways but i'm more happy that Port Adelaide are playing in the elite football competition in Australia.

If this thread is locked then it deprives wharfie and others the opportunity to tee off on me, rather than focusing on the debate with proper debating skills.

Is that what you call it!?

Once again, we have opponents to my side of the fence offering nothing but retorts and ad hominem replies.

I thought changing the channel was preferable?

I like to be facetious too....re: opposing the board name change. Find it ironical how everyone is "yay"ing about the board name change honoring the heritage, being very magpie-like, yet they flame people who are proponents of it and more.

If there's this attitude to "not look back, dont want to revert to PBs, etc" then like I said, the board should of been called The Power Board---get your teal electricity fix here".

Seems to be what you're all insisting on with regards on-field imagery and marketing....yet....then contradict yourselves yaying and wanting PBs, guernseys with PBs, board names with est 1870, and even avatars with Live the Creed and PBs displayed there.

Interesting.

Geoffa. ****. Right. Off.

I for one am getting sick and tired of your ignorant assumptions about "how it is" and "what would happen".

The ONLY reason this doesn't happen is due to SANFL decree. I know it. You know it. Everyone in SA knows it. You just choose to perpetuate the myth because it helps you justify your decision to switch your support to the team for all ******s.

You are a troll. Pure and simple.

Thanks for not addressing anything about my post, whilst typing the same dribble as all your other posts in this, and various other threads.

What did you actually address tho that I erred in not touching on?

Most of it was a rant against GG. If I missed a point you made, I apologize and rephrase it so I can address it.

Now you're starting to get me agreeing with others here. You're not interested in a debate, you just want to bang on endlessly about the same intractable point. It's how you always operate on this topic and I really don't want to get involved in the same endlessly, circular argument with you. But for the sake of making the point one last time ...

How many of us here have to say it how many times to get the message across. We respect the history of the club, we applaud when it is acknowledged. We will fight forever for the right of the club to recognise its tradition and history. But we also embrace the change required to move forward, onward and upward to secure the Port Adelaide Football Club on the highest stage. What was it Jenny Williams said, Fos embraced change and never lived in the past. That's the page most of us are on.
