Wanted so much to throw some dollars on WC at $4.50, but just couldn't betray my club.
Remarkable odds in hindsight, weren't they?

I would have and was going to with absolutely no remorse or guilt, but I was running late to the game and couldn't find a TAB which sucks big time.

What a discrace!! We were terrible from the first bounce till the last!! What an insipid performance. Just the skill errors and poor decisions made. I have no illusions in that Carlton is miles off pies and cats and also Hawks for that matter in terms of depth and key position spine players. Wc caught us off guard, with a host of injuries and complacency but I think they were far too big and strong overall. Mabey we need to take a look at thier list and learn. We need big bodies!! our center line will not win the game for us us week in week out. I'm bolting the lid shut and hoping we stay injury free come finals time.

+1 for this... :thumbsu:

It's a loss... the eagles played better, we lost Jamo early in the piece and with our other defensive outs, we were in shocking shape down back.

Time to move on and start looking at next week.

could we play hendo at CHB and see how that works out? I think he would be ok down back', certainly went ok on JK when put back there today.I think its worth a try before dropping him back to the 2"s

The part the disappoints the most is that, to me, WCE looked not just the better side on the day, but the better side period. How in the hell have they turned it around so quickly? It took us years to get to where we are, and they did it in one year.

I really thought we would be next in line after geelong starts to fall away next year, at least alongside the pies and hawks. But after today, I see that there is a fair chance the eagles have already passed us by. They may win a flag before us.

Their forward line is obviously strong. Their backs dominated our forwards, of which there was only waite missing from full strength. Their mids, fed by nicnat and cox, dominated ours for long stretches of the game. Admittedly, that probably wouldn't happen if robbo and curnow were out there, but there is enough strength there to suggest they could probably break even with us.

Maybe Kerr's body will let him down again. Maybe cox too. If not, they seem to have us covered in every department.

Irish is not in the mix and McLean is, but just.

Can't see why all that worry, really.
We were always going to lose another couple leading into finals, and taking 30% off your starting personnel out of the equation will invariably rock the boat.

My only concern is that we didn't use our main weapon today: Speed.
Whether we slowed down intentionally or were just forced into it, we were just too stop/start.

We got away with the lack of height against Adelaide, yet this time around we had even less experience down back and suffered accordingly.
Must say Austin just didn't look likely at any point at all. Shame.

I agree. As much as we love Irish, as a marking forward he is not the answer. McLean is just simply too slow.

Austin wasn't Crusoe today. I hope we give him a another chance next week. Ideally it would have been best to bring him in against a lesser opposition

So what? Watch the Buddy suspension last week?

When you make a decsion to intentionally play the man (he did) and you make contact with the head (he did - with a raised elbow) you are in strife.
The key difference is that Buddy had the option of tackling while Lynch did not. And it wasn't an elbow, it was more a forearm

Chest?

Unless we are talking about very different incidents, he was reported by the feild umpire for driving his hip into the top of Murphys skull.

The only thing that will save him there is if the contact gets viewed as incidental.
I am talking about the strike not the bump. In the 2nd quarter Lynch used to a hand to the chest to push a Carlton player out of the way to give a team mate time to find a target inside 50. That is exactly what he was trying to do to murphy but it slipped high.

Settle down, Lynch is no sniper.

Has never gone hard at the man, not even this season. No excuse but I would suggest clumsiness/lack of awareness are to blame not anything malicious.

Definitely not a thing I like seeing though.

It appeared Murphy was targeted all day, one other Eagles player who I can;t remember was also reported for something on Murphy, Lynch will also get cited for a hit on Murphy just before he was reported in the 4th which was worse, pretty gutless TBH.

However, Eagles were a better side today and played much better, an incredible turn around from last year .. got me baffled, Cox is so important, we may meet in the finals with hopefully our best side at the MCG .

Message to everyone:

Ignore all the trolls this week and in coming weeks about us only being able to beat up on weak teams. Dont go near bay 13 or main board threads about us!!

Clearly the players didnt care about today, I dont think we as supporters should either. We have bigger fish to fry and I am in no doubt when it comes to Cats and Collingwood we will lift. Dont want to peak in June.

You are not wrong. The main board seems like Bay 13. Its just the haters having a circle jerk. Wow we fielded our shortest, weakest team for the year against the tallest top 8 side and suddenly we are pretenders etc:

That was about the worst side we have fielded this year. I was nervous before the game and then they announce Robbo is out and i thought we'd struggle. We got beaten on the deck first and foremost then the other consequences came. We have to be hard at it to win and we weren't as hard it it today. Ratts said he'd pick combative teams, we carried a few softer types today and we can't afford to do it.

Not too annoyed today. We were shit but it's a huge wake up slap. Ratten will slam them and bring them back to earth.

Best thing that could have happened going into a game against Richmond. We will smash them.

I don't know why every1 is so concerned after today, this golden run couldn't continue forever

If we are a really good side we should respond by emphatically thumping the Tigers. We just seemed to be off our game today and the effort wasn't there. I don't think people can underestimate how important the loss of Jammo was so early and losing Robbo and Curnow really hurts the grunt in our mdifield. Priddis and Kerr dominated the midfield.

Unfortunately it all started with Cox and Naitanui in the ruck. They are just so formidable in giving their mids the advantage. I was disappointed with Warnock. He just isn't strong enough. Will he ever build some strength? Despite being a whipping boy I think Hammer is important with us cos he can at least compete with a bit of strength. Warnock doesn't do that.

WCE are a really improved side, they played good consistent 4 qtr football today, and we didn't. We were pretty ordinary aside from the first 10 mins of the 3rd qtr. I still think we might have the edge when the teams are close to full strength. It just goes to show we need pretty much our full team up and running to compete with the better sides. Let's be realistic, we are still well a fair way off the Pies and Cats, and dare I say the Hawks, who have been playing awesome football with quality players out and have had our measure for so long

This loss will help us I feel

I tend to think you are over playing the importance of jamisons departure. Whilst no doubt important and he would have offered more than Gibbs and henderson, the real issue was the midfield.

Naitanui and Cox gave first supply and Selwood and Kerr shut Judd out of the game and found ball themselves to effectible cut of your supply and feed their forwards.

I thought Shuey broke even with Murphy and pressured him well most of the time.

Only Scotland could say he won his battle but West Coast simply had too many good runners.

Jamison is our best defender and the in form KPD in the league. Don't give me the McPharlin crap who has leaked 22 goals compared to Jamo who has only had 8 kicked on him.

While I agree that our midfield didn't work hard enough, a fit Jamo would have helped enormously.

You're saying he wouldn't have helped?

definitely would have made a huge difference, but we were still getting smashed in the first half (however, i'm not sure if he was restricted earlier)

He is saying that our mids were well beaten and that had bigger consequences than losing Jamo. He is spot on. Calm the f down.

We lost but learnt a bit about some players.

Thornton & carrazzo still have major weaknesses.

Houlihan is not suited to how the game is played now.

Hampson will be far better than Warnock.

Yarran is a star.

McLean must be finished not to get a game today.

Jamo might have made the end result a couple of goals closer, that's all. Far too much run and supply with no pressure. Their forwards had it too easy.

We had plenty out today so not such a bad loss. I'm hoping to see Duigan, Laidler, Waite, and possibly setanta back next weekend.

We lack tall players with some size and strength. Henderson hasn't got the size or strenght and was again monstered today.

I literally have not seen you post here for the last month while we have been winning.

Bit harsh Mal, wouldnt say MrX is a negative poster but no surprise that AndSmithMustScore showed up. Next thing we will have threads about how Woosha outcoached Ratts and how we MUST get Roos.......expect too to finally hear from THS.
