Toast The New Carlton Thread: inexperienced Collingwood winger to rule Carlton

“Michael Voss is made to coach the Carlton Football Club – a coach of great intellect, who inspires those around him and every Carlton person to not just hope, but believe in what is possible if we remain committed and true to who we are, together.“

Luke Sayers - Feb 2024, after re-signing Voss to a further two years.

The best part about last night is that with 2yrs to run on Voss’s contract their hands are tied. But Voss would be acutely aware that carlton get itchy feet at the 3 year point and won’t be safe from a mid season axing next year if it doesn’t look like he can deliver.

I can see him going all crazy vossy at the trade table to try and get ahead of the axe. Get your popcorn ready.
Be cool seeing them overcommit in desperation

There was a moment in the second quarter, when the Blues still hadn’t scored, and Cripps ran to the bench and looked beseechingly at Voss - who shook his head, as if to say, don’t ask me.

It was a weird moment. Kind of like they were in uncharted territory. Voss really didn't know what to do, and Cripps just looked deflated.

I really liked it.

It was like a scene from a Planet of the Apes movie.

Think Voss was telling Crippa he couldn’t leave the ground.

“If you walk off now, it might start a stampede.”

Definitely a season highlight

There are 35 glorious pages of finger pointing misery on the Carlton board.
For those interested, the fun starts on page 11 which is about 11:00pm after the game. This is when the Carlton drunks come out to play.

Making up the numbers is one thing they’re good at.

Credit where it’s due …

… footy is an entertainment industry, and Carlton are very entertaining.

Just further lends credence to my (and I'm sure many others) theory that they don't actually have a gameplan or system

They simply play to their talent and hope for the best

I just didn't realise it was actually Curnow that was the key. I always thought/assumed it was Cripps

Vossy did have a plan. It's just that it copped a very early does of the Helmuth von Moltke treatment.
