Don't think percentage will be a problem for the Aussies.
Still could be a 3 way tie between us, England and Scotland if we lost to the Scots, and Poms won out, so more NRR we build here, the more we can afford to give to the Scots in the next game.

Not that I think this Aussie team will throw the last game, so it's all academic at this point.

Haven't England lost a game and had a no-result washout? So unless we lose to Namibia they can't catch us?

LOL, same old Aussies always manipulating results in their own best interests.
Dream result imo would be English team and media losing their mind over this for a few days and then losing to Namibia to render the whole thing redundant.

Strong avatar to post content correlation here.

eg. at the 99 WC we had to beat the Windies, but it would be better if we beat them by not too much so that they also qualified for the next stage and we would carry our points over. After rolling them cheaply and having the run chase under control, Bevan and I think S Waugh blocked it out for the next dozen or so overs so that the Windies net run rate wasn't badly effected.

It wasn't enough as it turned out, the Windies got eliminated.

Similar logic here by Hazelwood by the sounds of it.

Wouldn't tanking against Scotland put us second in the group ?

If we finish top, we'd be in a group with
C2 (West Indies currently)
D1 (South Africa)
A2 (USA)

If we finish second, we'd be in a group with
D2 (Bangladesh)
C1 (Afghanistan)
A1 (India)
In a move that coincidentally massively benefits India and Indian fans, the seedings will be done on pre tournament rankings, so if we go through with Scotland, we'll be 1 and they'll be 2 regardless where we both finish in the group.

Actually this isn't exactly correct, Scotland will just inherit England's ranking, so I think potentially they'll be 1 and we'll be 2 regardless where we each finish.

Actually no. The "pools" wont change irrespective of where each qualifying team finishes in these stages. The final 8s match ups are already set, and those will only change in the case of one of the expected finalists, not making it through the group stages in which case the team that takes their place will go into that slot. India actually already know when and where they will be playing their Semi final- just not who yet.
This info was detailed on The Grade Cricketer podcast by Alex Malcolm a couple of weeks ago.

Edit- Or what The Forehead said

This is bizare and makes little sense

I can see why the ICC have done this.
The official reason is it makes it much easier to plan travel for fans and teams, especially considering every ground is in a different country/island so getting around is difficult.

The unofficial reason is every India game is locked into the best timezone for them and they are the only team who already know for certain when/where their semi final would be, which just happens to be the much more spin friendly venue of the two.

Would love to beat India in the final and make it the trifecta of WC finals in a shade over twelve months.
