India were rolled for 36 in the first test last time around and yet won that series.

Anything can happen. Plenty of time for soul searching between test 1 and 2. Just look at the difference between India vs NZ and the India of the last few days

Agreed, and that's why I only think we should be sacking 10 of the 11.

Marnus's worst performance so far (I'm sure he'll improve later though).

Got very lucky in the first innings that Kohli dropped him second ball and after that refused to rotate the strike putting pressure on the other batsmen and then got setup by Siraj then goes full Watto by burning a review. Tried with the ball but the second innings, didn't want to come out so he had a nightwatchman come out then he gets out and reluctantly has to go in and then gets plumb LBW and then goes full Watto again burning another review.

I don't think Marnus was ever a 50 average batsmen. He has historically been lucky with fielders dropping him more than other batsmen and was facing sub par attacks. In reality he's about a 40-42 average player and it looks like his average is coming back to the mean.

An independent review into Australian cricket is required here.

I say that in joking fashion, but it's legitimately a possible outcome of the summer.

I think it has always been pretty obvious that a rough period was coming for Aus cricket. Too many players well into their 30s and not enough class coming through at State level. Even when you look at the next level of bowlers behind the big three quicks, it has generally been Boland and Neser (both pretty old) next in. Then Jhye, who can’t stay healthy, and Morris (also gets hurt a lot), and Paris (injury prone and unlucky to be stuck behind Starc his whole career). Guys like Fergus O’Neill and Nathan McAndrew have some talent but it’s pretty clear that they don’t have the natural ability of a Starc or Hazlewood or Cummins.

Good job Pat.

Just hangs the bat out as nightwatchman. ****ing pathetic.

It’s all ok, Pat will post about his concert going exploits and how we should be reducing our carbon footprints, u know, the really important Aussie cricket captain stuff!

The cupboard is bare. The question is, why?

Replace 'em with da yoof?
Nup, the opposite, I'm rolling out

Hayden
Langer
Ponting
M Hussey
S Waugh
M Waugh
Healy
Johnson
Lyon
Lillee
McGrath

Improves the team and the commentary at the same time.

Who would you drop and play?

Boland seems to be next in line and I don't think he's as good as the ones who are in there.

Hazelwood and Cummins are undroppable

Starc for mine should be the one to go, difference between his best and his worst is still too vast.

As for who? Try someone, anyone. As I keep harping on this will be the third series in a row the same bowling line up can't get it done. If you keep rolling up the same ineffective attack you might as well just forfeit and save time.

It's no different to Simmo's credits in the bank crew everyone kept complaining about.

I see the decline at the junior level, just like AU Rigby Union - big drop off in participation.

It’s alright. Captain Planets real motive was revealed for being night watchman. He wanted to complete his involvement in this test match so he could watch the ipl auction with no distractions

The bowling attack will need a chop out at some point in this series, especially after the punishment dished out yesterday gets repeated in the second Test. They're all well into their 30s now, it gets harder to bounce back.

Fortunately the second Test isn't until next Friday I think.
