He unfortunately got injured at the wrong times of his career and sorta got consistent games in in his late 20’s and into his 30’s. I would love to see him play test cricket however, they now need to back in youth.

In Sri Lanka they should defs go with two pacers and it’s so doctored for spin there they sometime only play one pacer at home and even open with spin. Starc cops a lot of flack but he causes havoc against Sri Lankan batsmen and averages 17 with 29 wickets in 5 matches. Amazing record considering how spin dominant the pitches are there. Starc and Cummins should be enough and then two spinners

Backing the youth is for loser sides. Our team of mostly geriatrics just won back the BGT and qualified to defend the WTC. Boland didn’t get his baggy green until age 32 and three years later he’s player of the match in the series-clinching win. Australia’s best batsman in the Sydney test was a 31 year old debutant.

As long as Aus are at the top of the Test mountain, they should be selecting the best possible side and not worrying about how Fergus O’Neill or, I dunno, Will Sutherland are several years younger than Boland/Paris or Beau Webster.

“To have an opposition swarm the non-striker like that, we have got a duty of care to our player to make sure he’s okay and in a head space to go out the next day and perform.”

So to be fair, I think GG might have a point with some of what he said.

Happy for them to play franchise cricket. But Afghanistan the country should be penalised by exclusion from international fixtures. What's happening there is as bad as apartheid.

The concern for Australia is that Boland is 35 and managing a long-term knee issue. Starc turns 35 this month. Hazlewood is 34 on Wednesday and has mounting injury concerns. Australia's other favoured back-up quick Michael Neser turns 35 in March and has missed two months this summer with a significant hamstring injury. Sean Abbott (32), Brendan Doggett (30), and Nathan McAndrew (31) are the next most durable trio.

Jhye Richardson (28), Lance Morris (26), Xavier Bartlett (26), and Spencer Johnson (29), are viewed as Australia's next generation of red-ball quicks but none have anywhere near the durability of Cummins, Boland and Starc at the moment. Fergus O'Neill is 23, and has dominated Shield cricket without any injury concerns. But his average speeds are under 130kph, meaning any opportunity at Test level, rightly or wrongly, would likely be conditions based.

Notice a name missing? Sean Abbott is nearly a year older than Paris and has a FC average of 30.38; Doggett is less than 2 years younger and averages 28.63; McAndrew is a few months younger and averages 26.22. Johnson is just 3 years younger and averages 27.46 in a grand total of 6 first class matches.

Like, what are we doing here? How are these seen as more appealing bowling options than a guy who just turned 32 and averages below 20, including taking 81 wickets at 15.48 in the past 2.5 Shield campaigns. Here’s how he ranks in average and economy the past 3 years among bowlers who have played more than a match or two in the Shield season:

2022/23: 3rd lowest average, 3rd lowest economy
2023/24: 1st lowest average, 4th lowest economy
2024/25: 1st lowest average, 2nd lowest economy

Yet a guy who has dominated at Shield level for this long doesn’t bear mentioning over Sean Abbott, Brendan Doggett or Spencer Johnson? GTFOH.

Maybe Ronald needs to go back and watch some suburban cricket to understand the meaning of "intimidating"....

The Last Man Standing Comp in particular is great and features a fair few Indian, Pakistani, Sri Lankan and Afghani XXXXXIIIIVVVVXXXXXVVVI sides, who take it more seriously than life itself.

The alternative would have been to cobble together 4 overs from Connolly, Turner, Marsh and Hardie. In past years, this would have been no problem at all, but this year it's a dodgier proposition. Hardie not bowling at all, the others unreliable.
