I’m trying hard not to go down the umpire hating route, but bloody hell they don’t make it easy. Boot-licking commentators on the other hand:

It was a windy day marked by some horrendous umpiring in the second half (we got some horrible ones our way in the first). A few positional changes with Biggie forward, Laz continuing off HB, Stevo off HB for a half (before being pulled) and Dawson forward. Our talls got beaten a lot today, but the midfield and smaller forwards got us over the line.

  • Watkins and Fish were probably our best on.
  • Free had one of his best games.
  • Will Phil drifted out of the game with 22 disposals, but had 7 clearances. Everything was silk of course.
  • Maley struggled a lot against an experienced afl defender in Francis (who is still a shit bloke), but still won himself 15 disposals.
  • Dawson would have learned a bit with 10 disposals, 5 marks and a goal.
  • Bergs was reliable, but was not super noticeable.
  • Hansen Jr was probably third best on for us due to his sheer impact per disposal. Set up more than a few score involvements, finishing with 16 disposals, 2 goals, 3 tackles and 6 marks.
  • Harvey had some good moments. Needs to get involved more as he uses it well and is a good contested mark.

I was just having a look at our match history in the VFL this year, and most of the games are pretty normal wins or losses except one... Werrible def. NMelb 13.21.99 - 4.6.30

What on earth happened that game?!?! Could have been much worse if they'd kicked straight, too.

Werribee are very good.

This one would have been all time if he could have held on!

A lot to like for us, good to have pressure on spots both ways, so much better than earlier in the year, when you'd watch the AFL and think someone needed a spell in the VFL, but no one remotely pushing for a call up!

Wow the umpiring was something else, all you really want is consistency with interpretations, particularly HTB, but there were so many paid purely on the jumper colour!

I get the commentator is likely a local, but when he affectionately refers to the "Swannies" and describes us in possession in our forward line as the ball being "at half back for the Swans" it gets a bit on the nose!

Longmire won’t be happy with the AFL. The Heeney thing. AFL not help him out winning this game. Surly the AFL will help Longmire out with main game. They did let us play 19 men once😜

You can see the impact of us investing heavily in high quality development coaches already hey.
Hopefully they can increase the soft cap to coincide with our rise up and we have a stream of high quality development to back up our high end talent.

"........while Jarrod Lienert held down the backline again with 17 possessions and seven intercepts "

Funny about that.
