How much would Tarrant cost, or is he off the table?
For me he's tradable but I'm not sure what the club thinks and other fans are much more protective of him than me. The thing is we've put so much effort and work into his development that it would be a shame not to reap the rewards so it'd have to be a pretty decent offer.

Getting draft picks for him would be stupid. Like starting all over again just as he enters into his good years.

There's a big obsession with age on this thread. Not wanting to 'block kids development', not wanting players 'for only 3 seasons'.

On the opening day of the 1995-96 season Manchester United lost 3-1 to Aston Villa. They had recently sold high profile, experienced players like Paul Ince, Kanchelsis and Mark Hughes. Pundit Allan Hansen made the famous remark: 'You can't win anything with kids'. United had a team of kids, but they were very good kids. Do you know any of these names, David Beckam, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville, Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs? Sir Alex's team went on to win the league and the Fa Cup that season and prove Hansen wrong. It would be like Port Adelaide winning the flag this year, or the 'baby bombers'. That generation went on to win many more trophies.

Fast forward to 2012-13. All of man utd's golden generation of kids had moved on and retired, but Scholes and Giggs are still there. They are not the players they were. Ferguson brought in 29 year old Robin Van Persie from Arsenal by paying Arsene Wenger way more than a player of 29 should supposedly cost.

But Ferguson again won the league last year.

You see what Ferguson understands is that age isn't the most important thing. If a player is playing well, he's worth having on the field. It doesn't matter if he's 18 or 35. Who cares if the 35 year old 'isn't the player he was', if he's still in the best 22 players, play him. Best of all, so many clubs make the mistake of prioritising 'getting games into kids' than playing their best players, so experienced players can be brought for excellent value.

Yes there is nothing more important to premierships than young players who come through your ranks and play for a decade. And we've got a truly wonderful, golden generation of kids coming through. But the Van Persies, the Brian Lakes and dare I say the NDSes or Chapmans of the world are just as important to premierships.
Fast forward to 2013/14 and United are sitting in 12th spot. End of story. ;)

No draft.

No salary cap.

A bottomless pit of money.

No comparison.

No Henderson is not an upgrade. Like a lot of basketball converts his best is very impressive and athletic, but his worst (like misjudging the ball in flight at crucial time) is pretty poor. Doesn't fill a position of need for us IMO in that he mostly plays his best footy as a HBF or 3rd tall.

Wonder if the club is looking at Ricky Henderson. Would he be an upgrade on Mullett/Atley off half-back?

One finished 4th in our B&F last year, and remains one of our potentially genuine elite players.

The other finished 4th in the Rising Star this year.

The answer is, no.

But he's from another list from another state and so tall, dark and mysterious.

There are reports surfacing that Carlton are interested in Robbie Tarrant and will offer Chris Yarran to get the deal done...

Even though Yarran is a good get, i think Tarrant is more important to our structure?

As for the free agent front.

We shouldn't just splash the cash this year if we've got it, just because we can.

I'm happy to nab Dal Santo, but keep any remaining cap space for next year, especially if Dave Swallow has another mediocre year.

Does anyone know whether there is any truth to the rumours about David Swallow wanting to relocate to VIC? There were talks of Melbourne making contact with his management?

Unfortunately if the rumours were true, i doubt we would have the currency, unless of course we managed to keep pick 8?

If he has another mediocre year surely he couldn't demand a high salary.

But agree don't just waste money because we have it.

Why would that be starting today? It's not trade week, FA time or FS bidding...

Like BF it doesn't mean the punters don't want to talk about it. I guess they'll be discussing possible scenarios and what they're hearing on the grape vine.

If he's coming to North this better be getting done in consultation with us. Otherwise he's denied us the FA option if Pelchen reverts to his old tricks.

nothing to do with us.. NDS manager said his contract had an automatic clause to be activated if he passed certain criteria's.

NDS has activated his contract for next year so a trade will need to be done... from NDS manager.
Both parties need to agree to activate the year... That's why it's still a FA talking point. NDS said he activated his side a few weeks back
