I reckon the Pelican offered Montagna and Dal Santo for pick 8 assuming we get it, it is the type of ruthless action he has shown in the past. I reckon this has caused the shit storm at the Saints and put the whole deal in limbo. Pure speculation on my part. But us giving up pick 8 for a couple of soon-to-be has beens has Pelican poo all over it. If this is the case I hope we agree, get him to delist Dal and then use pick 8 on a Kelly or someone in the draft and see if we can still get Dal further down the draft.

Well he's an absolute moo nothing surprises me anymore

It would be very amusing if they refused to trade him and Dal just walked out and nominated for the draft.

Assuming our side round 1 next year is:

B: McMahon, Thompson, C.Delaney
HB: McDonald, Grima, Mullett
C: Wells, Cunnington, Dal Santo
HF: Harvey, Tarrant, Adams
F: Black, Petrie, Thomas
R: Goldstein, Swallow, Ziebell

I: Bastinac, Atley, McKenzie, Gibson

Off the top of my head, our experience breakdown would be:

Less than 50: 7 (including Gibson, who is as reliable as a 150 gamer)
50 to 99: 6
100 to 149: 5
150 or more: 4

Pretty handy, definitely nearing the window.

Needs more Hansen

I found this on the Brisbane board, so creditability unknown:
Dogs met with Docherty along with Blues, Dons and Roos, but Blues and Dons have emerged as favorites.

Would love to know what Essendon have to trade bar a few half-empty vials of AOD.

Petrie hadn't reached his full potential by 22... But the signs were always there. He always had a great set of hands, he just needed to learn how to use his size & lead into the right areas. Tarrant is not just going to wake up one day & have a clean pair of hands. Other things can be learnt, but marking ability is something you either have or don't have...
Tarrant went goalless in 6 of his last 7 games this year, pretty average return for a key forward & a guy who is supposed to be on the up...

Yet still averages more goals per game than Drew did at the same point is his career go figure.......

so what are the chances of us getting the dal santo deal done on monday?

its a deal that should get done straight away but stkilda(pelchen) seem to be dragging it out. A simple saints saying yes he is a free agent followed by the contract being offered and signed by dal's management and he is ours, you would think we have already discussed contract terms with dal so all we need is the all clear.

Pretty much. once we know how they want to proceed I would say it will happen pretty quickly.

I reckon it will get done, but don't expect it to be necessarily in the first couple of days, with NDS out of country and saints list managers being stupid campaigners it may drag on.

St Kilda seem to be hesitant over what to do with NDS because of 'how it will look'. That's rubbish. Get some balls, put a strategy in place and try to implement it. Forget about 'how it looks'. Equally I hope North don't pay overs for for NDS just because our inability to sign a big name is starting to draw a few questions.

Saints are a bit in crisis not because of their rubbish list - you can turn that around pretty quickly - but they have no direction and no leadership. The entire football world knows that they need to cash in on a few of their old stars while they have some value left.

The only problem is the Saints have no idea how they want to proceed o_O
Saints have not had a good idea since their inception. Look at what happened last time someone from St.Kilda thought they had a good idea, enter alcohol, a lighter, a dwarf and one Clint Jones.
St. Kilda- the club that makes us all better.:p

Seems to be a quiet day at the office today.

So what's the low down on who we are chasing- is it just Dal and maybe Bruce from GWS.

Bruce seems sAints bound. I haven't come across any media dispatches that say we've gone for anyone aside from Dal Santo, Betts and maybe Docherty.

I dont believe the reported hold up being due to both St Kilda and NDS being worried about the perception from their supporters. It's more likely due to St Kilda trying to suss out if they will get pick 4 as compensation or a mid 1st round or end of 1st round pick for him. If they got some indication that they'd get pick 4 they'd be crazy not to trade him.

Interesting idea on their forum is for them to trade another player our way, but they pay his salary and we state that NDS is getting an extra $200k a season. eg NDS happy to accept $600k, but we offer $800k a year, and they send a player our way and pay his $200k wage. Since we won't go close to paying 100% of the salary cap it doesn't worry us, except that we have to carry a list clogger for a while. Of course NDS pockets an extra 200k as a parting gift from the Saints. Sounds like draft tampering, but it could benefit both sides.

I dont really care if we pick no one up - as long as we don't overpay in desperation. Was it Pelchen who shafted us in the Hay deal?

None of that would work. The AFL has to look over the paperwork for the contracts, and putting in a legal contract that we will pay him 800k and only paying 600k leaves us open to so much bad stuff it's not worth contemplating.

They won't get pick 4 for him, it will be an end of 1st round more likely.
