Richmond has been advised by Dustin Martin and his management of their desire to pursue offers from other clubs.

Cant see we'd have anything we're willing to give up to make a trade possible other than our second around pick. Thats of course if we even wanted him, seems theres some baggage there. Probably do his footy good to move interstate.

This could have some really good repercussions with our target FAs

Say st kilda are keen, open up some more cap space by offloading NDS, which they probably be more likely to do via FA if they intend to trade for dusty so they can retain a first round pick.

Say carlton are keen, then betts is gone cap wise!

I wouldn't touch him with a 10ft line of cocaine

Dusty has to be worth a look, I think he realizes that his career beyond playing is pretty limited so he has to make the cash while he can.

For my 2 cents I would like the club to have a crack at getting the first pick off GWS and getting Boyd. I think Drew has a couple of years left and they could transition Boyd in to fill the void. I would think Sammy Wright, JMac and Robbie Tarrrant would all be considered as possible trade options, as part of some sort of package.

If we are getting rid of a defender I would think McMahon would offer more as trade value to other clubs based on age and to be honest I think he was worse than Spud this year. I don't know if he was carrying an injury but he went backwards badly. While Spud did some appalling on field stuff ups I would keep him as you can rely on him to give 100% and set the right example.

so our 1st round pick is gone & people want us to try to get martin??? the stupidity sometimes here is scary. which youngster would you like to trade for him, atley, jack, cunners or bmac? coz thats what the tiges will want, a young mid in return if we dont have a 1st round pick to give

How poorly run does that club need to be, to be having cap issues with that list

This here would have to be the argument against bringing in so many recycled players, would be interested in seeing the amount guys like Azza, Maric, Grigg, Chaplin and Houli are on. He is only asking for 600K ffs, if he becomes a gun I hope their fans are happy they decided it'd be better to pay above market value for other clubs rejects then to keep one of their most promising young players.

How they lost Martin is going to be an entire segment when they make part 2 of "The Lost Years". If he ends up at Collingwood with their development system and that giant spotlight, he is going to make Richmond look like even more of a joke.

Martin isn't the bad guy here, he is worth 600k and on the open market he is going to get a lot more, this is just pathetic list management by the Tiges.

I'd like to see us look at Martin, A lot of reporters on the AFL have said that we need some grunt in our team. But would not pay overs to get him.

So Stilly is walking.

So we back our culture when it comes to Dayle Garlett but not with Dustin Martin?

I'd be inquiring about him 100%, I feel his off-field stuff is blown out of proportion due to his old
Man.

Would we win a flag within his first contract with the club?

Richmond made finals for the first time in 12 years, he is worshiped there and he walks out because he is worth more than what they are offering?

I would want a 20 and 2 average off him for such douche baggery.

On the flip side I would back us with Garlett as he is 19 and would then be away from influences in Perth and would need to rely upon the blokes at the club.

Martin is a world of pain.

I reckon the rumours would just be the tip of the ice-berg.

Hope you guys get Betts BTW.

Dustin Martin has quit Richmond. He's exactly the sort of player we need, is elite quality, a good age, and will only get better. But he may ruin our team spirit. He's a mercenary, and has a bad attitude. We're a team of 'nice guys', there's no dickheads. I'm torn on whether we should go for him or not. Thoughts?

4 finals appearances in 33 years.

We made that many in the years between the loss of Carey and the start of Brad Scott.

Jake f***ing King.

Martin will not go to GWS. They have a team of kids and have spent 2-3 years making sure they set up a good club culture. Martin is exactly what they don't need.

My thoughts are he will either stay at Richmond (they will find a happy middle-ground), or go somewhere like Carlton or Sydney.

I wouldn't. Apart from what nmfc_always just said re what it would take, Dusty has off field form and to me this 'me first' approach is not what I'd be looking to bring into the team, especially for what it would cost to do it.

Garlett has already made some changes and bear in mind he is younger and more impressionable; that is, able to be supported in an environment while he is still in a very formative stage of life (the school-work-first job stage). Experiences at this stage make a big difference. Also, IF we managed to snag him with a second round pick as many are hoping, it'd be a far cheaper option. He is also more of a fit than Martin for our needs imho.

The bloke is clearly dumb as dog shit. Take a look at his twitter, constantly putting up posts about Dan Connors and tommy hislop, both blokes who got turfed because they are useless campaigners on the turps with no control or respect for their footballing ability.

Dusty is cut from the same cloth. If you take him sign him for 5 years that's all you gonna get from him before he ends up being a backing dancer for Rihanna or some wack as shit like that. Dude needs cash now cos he doesn't have a brain to end up doing anything decent after footy

I think it would be surprising to us as to how much guys like Grigg, Chaplin and Houli are on, it is their mid-tier guys who they are paying way too much money if you ask me. Even if Martin walks there is still rumours that Conca might be West Coast bound...How much of a kick in the balls would that be?

I totally agree, he is an elite talent and a game-breaker. For a bloke only in his 4th year he has pretty incredible numbers.

Martin for Gysberts? Richmond can pay 200k of his Salary.

He will be the new Dayle. No club will risk him for a pick under 15 or a decent player. He will be in jail before the preseason cup starts.
