If you asked me a month ago, I would've said 2/3 wins from the stretch we've just had was okay. Obviously we'd like more, but being realistic I always figured we'd switch off for one. The game was dire, but I don't think we're in a substantially different position to where we were a week ago.

Also remember, GWS got the jump on (an admittedly depleted) Sydney too.

FWIW... Ross Lyon...

"I don't take any extra pleasure out of it," Lyon said.

"We did what we needed to do. Let's acknowledge where Brisbane's at.

"They're a young team. In 2008, we kicked one goal against Adelaide. The wheel will turn for them."

Didn't know Ross Lyon went through the bad times to see the wheel turn ;)

Also got the year wrong;
In Round 15, 2009, Fremantle achieved the lowest score in its history and of the 2000s, scoring only 1.7 (13) to the Adelaide Crows' 19.16 (130). It was held to just one point in the first half and the only goal scored came in the third quarter.

Still, nice sentiments I guess.

Yeah, that's pretty decent from Ross.

Positive is that I got through the game and don't have to think about it anymore.

Just hope he doesn't have his eye on the Lions as his next "project".

You have to hit rock bottom, before you can climb back up that dark hole.
Reckon we have finally done that, next year things will improve on and off the field.
Personally I love the group of young boys we have now.
Polec and Yeo are doing ok ,but really ,they would make no difference to where we are now.
I truly hope the boys we have now, will stick through this and will be rewarded down the track.

Think your getting confused with Matthews.

Ignorant post about a four time premiership coach.

Was sacked at Collingwood and hung around at Brisbane for four seasons after the fourth grand final. Hardly a cut and run.

This is pretty much spot on I think. We are fielding the best part of a second tier team each week. People can get very critical of young guys who are out of their league - literally out of their league. People also think that a handful of experienced players should be able to fix it all up. Our more experienced players are either struggling themselves or so busy just trying to play their own roles at the same time as they try to make up for the inexperience and lighter bodies/less endurance of the younger ones that bad things happen. And will keep happening for a while yet.

If anyone thinks that this can be fixed in one draft or by recruiting a few mature players next year, you are fooling yourself. Time, development, patience and persistence are what is called for. You ride these bad times out because things will turn. It sucks now but when we do rise, every big win will pay back another one of these big losses.

Things will turn.

Yeah, we just have to accept that 2005-2013 are years lost a raft of poor decision making in a raft of areas. A list-build takes as long as it takes, Leppa can't just magically change the cycle of footy because we are impatient about the mistakes made the club before he arrived. He has inherited a list with a few quality players in their twilight years, a middle age group of very ordinary gap fillers, a plethora of young kids expected to immediately compensate for the 5 first/second round draft picks who walked out the door just as they were ready to start delivering on the investment. Then on top of that the club gets the fixture from hell and the list gets smashed with injuries to key personnel.

Yes these are excuses. Valid ones.

He's been given a hell of a difficult job. Of course on BigFooty middle-ground thinking is frowned upon which means that anyone willing to give him some time to navigate the ship out of the precarious reef is accused of just being a sycophant who "thinks success is just automatically going to happen in time".

According to footy wire stats, Justin Clarke is 7th in the league for one percenters this season and equal top in this round with 15. Goose also had 11 this round.

Tom Rockliff 172 Dreamteam points this round and highest average DT points in the league.

Rocky second and Jack Redden sixth in total tackles for the season and they were 1st and 2nd top tacklers in this round. Yes, it means we were chasing the ball, but a few experienced Lions made real efforts against Freo even though we were outclassed.

And now I just realised that I think of 27-gamer Justin Clarke as one of our experienced players!

With Brownie's retirement comes a huge chance for the likes of Close, Paine, Freeman and even Lisle and Martin to further their credentials as the focal point in attack for the Club.

The psychological barrier of just being a "fill in" has been removed forever.

Opportunity knocks.

It'll be fascinating to see which (if any) of our "trainer-wheel" forwards has the ability and desire to fill the substantial void left by the departure of the great man.

Or will we have to cast the net elsewhere?

Our sponsors getting great exposure during Browny's retirement press conference, will be seen over and over again giving them great value for there money.
