Three out of my four sponsored players played this week and I was immensely proud of each of them.

Simon - needs no words. We all know how good he is.
Ryan - great to see him in seniors and he really gave it his all. Just keep building that tank my boy.
Tinka - 150% effort as usual. His chases should be played over and over for all the team to see.

Clarke has what it takes to be a bloody good/tough as nails footballer. Given his age and experience, really love the way he attacks the ball and the contest...put me down as being on his bandwagon.

Harwood arrived last season - I don't know why Voss has not been playing him this season...
Although I may not be privy to 'behind the scenes' info, it sure is stuffing up his development.

If he's better now than he has been, how has his development been stuffed up?

The umps practiced whistle free football this weekend.

I found it less frustrating. If the frees are lopsided but there aren't many of them, it's easier to ignore it. Having said that there were some funny scenarios of players almost getting their heads ripped off that last week would've been an easy free but this week was play on.

My response was in relation to Harwood having 'now arrived'. I said he arrived last season - which he did, and should have therefore been played at the outset, that is, from Round 1. Given he already 'arrived' last season, playing him from Round 1 this season would have surely been of greater benefit to him than dominating the twos.

This is a matter of opinion though. Personally, I thought Harwood showed good signs last season without making me confident that he was a better option than several others down back. He certainly didn't lock himself into the best side, IMO.

Having said that, in a game where our defence struggled last week, I thought Harwood was the shining light and was clearly our most effective defender both with the ball and without. IMO, that was his best game as a defender.

Based on his performance on Friday night, I would have him comfortably ahead of Yeo, Adcock and McGrath in terms of form. Of course, one game is not a great sample size and so I'd want to see that kind of form replicated over several games.

But, the decision not to play him early this year was justified IMO. I couldn't fit him in to the side. I think we saw enough of Yeo to warrant giving him first crack, Golby is a superior footballer IMO and, in a side bereft of leadership and experience, it is no great surprise that guys like Adcock and McGrath get named ahead of him.

Very measured response POBT - you must be a fellow lawyer, or maybe a politician.
My response did have some underlying tones of resentment. Voss just has me baffled with the way he 'plays the kids'. I'm all too aware of the calls for Cornelius to have an extended run etc, which may or may not be justified given his output. However, Harwood and Karnezis are different in that they have proven capable of playing in the big stage. Notwithstanding that Voss wants them to develop more tools in the reserves, one could make a reasonable argument that these tools can be better developed in the seniors given that they have, during most of their senior games, proven capable of playing their roles. After all, the same opportunity was given to Rich, Redden and Rockliff - who have gone on to become fixtures of our side. I'd argue Harwood and Karnezis, if given the same opportunity as these blokes, would be firmly entrenched in our 22 by now.

I'd also argue that Yeo has not shown more than Harwood, but Voss has played him based on his potential, which has arguably fast-tracked his development. Again, I need to preface this by saying there may very well be other factors being taken into account relating to the non-selection of both Harwood and Karnezis.

Our effort against the Swans, once we settled was far stronger and more spirited than that of the Crows last night. Reality check required: Sydney are the reigning premiers and could easily go back2back in 2013. Likewise our win against Essendon in Melbourne was against a genuine top 8 side.

We dodged a wet round of footy in Qld thanks to the bye. We have seemed to cop plenty of wet home games the last few years so nice to know the bye worked in our favour in that regard.

I think plenty of us have said it before but: Mayes, Clarke, Yeo and I think maybe even Lisle might be a big part of our future.

Edit: And Golby

For reasonably long parts of the game we were the better team but didn't convert into points. We faded obviously and looked exhausted but we made them work for three quarters and, with a little more kicking accuracy, a few less shocking umpiring decisions and a little more luck it could have been down to a goal or two.
