Britain tops the list of decimating Indigenous cultures.
Why do they own 1/3 of Ireland, why do they own the Faulkland Islands ? They took them by force.

Any any other country would have done the same if they could. Being nice is a pretty recent phenomenon.

What reason? Is 15 days necessary? Surely 1 day is appropriate.
One: the government was going to take a week to prepare the budget in two weeks time. You then have the 10 days that Britain (and correspondingly, us) are taking as an official period of mourning; so, 15 days.
Two: She was the Australian head of state. You knew that going in; you are not compelled to like it, and there is a thread on the Aust Politics forum that is for Republic chat should you wish to change it. This is not the thread for that discussion. You want to have that discussion, see the stickied post.

I think the criticism is that politicians should not be given a taxpayer funded holiday to mourn while the rest of Australia keep the country running. That such a holiday is demanded by Britain adds to the insult.

I quite agree, but that is not what either of the preceding two posts said. If Aristotle Pickett wanted to make that criticism, they should have done it instead of playing oblivious.

Old enough to remember singing God Save the Queen in primary school, we didn’t have a National anthem ‘til the mid 70s.

Knew all the words….Santa Victorius was my favourite bit.😎👍

Grand Finals back in the day we got GSTQ & Advance Australia Fair.

Old person reminiscing…
I started school in Melbourne, remember singing GSTQ and also reciting the Oath of Allegiance.

Always loved DK Lillee’s response on being introduced to Her Majesty.

“G’day, how ya go’in?”

He also tried to hit her up for an autograph in middle of the MCG during the Centenary Test.

She declined, but a few weeks later he got one in the mail.
Cricket has been very poorly served by the House of Windsor.

Soooooo, do we still get a long weekend in June?

She had a good innings, may she RIP.
Yes they haven't changed the date since George V (as it was convenient time and Edward was also in June and George VI and Elizabeth II birthdays were at inconvenient times) it will be renamed King's Birthday though and Queensland and WA will continue to celebrate it at a different time to everyone else.

Bit of awkward timing for WA though.

The Queen seemed a reasonable person but let's be honest about the legacy of the royal family and the campaigns they approved .

5 of the worst atrocities carried out by British Empire.
The British people suffer "historical amnesia" over the atrocities committed by their former empire, an Indian MP and author has claimed.

Former UN under-secretary general Dr Shashi Tharoor said the British education system fails to tell the real story of empire.

A few of those are really questionable as to being the fault of the British Empire. The partition of India was a horrible idea but it wasn't the British that did the killing on that one.

Of course it was the fault of the British empire, they drew arbitrary lines on a map, then peaced out and left and then wondered why ethnic cleansing happened.

For other examples, see the Middle East and Africa.

So are the British responsible for what the American's have done over the years? Cause if they are we can add a whole lot more to the kill count.

No? What does this have to do with America?
Just pointing out that whilst the British drew the lines on the map it was the people themselves that decided to kill their neighbours and are the ones that need to accept responsibility for their own actions.
