My down under friends, I hope you will excuse the following post, but it's very important to me:

I want to say the most loving of goodbyes to my dad Michael who passed away unexpectedly Monday 28 November 2022, following an operation.

Thank you, dad, for setting an example of how to be a man. Thank you for teaching me that the most important thing in our lives is people, not money or possessions. Thank you for being my biggest champion, my strongest support and my dearest friend. Thank you for your limitless capacity to love your children and grandchildren. Thank you for your ethics and beliefs, your humanity, your gentleness and compassion. You were the greatest man I will ever know.

You bought me my first child's season ticket at Old Trafford in 1989, and we've been going together since. No game in the future will ever be as enjoyable.

Sleep well old friend. If there is something beyond ourselves, you are back with mum. I am proud to carry your name. I love you xx

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women
And blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus.
Holy Mary Mother of God
Pray for us sinners now and in the hour of our death, Amen.

Sorry to hear that, our family has lost a few in the last couple of years. It's pretty tough to deal with, especially under that circumstance. You expect surgery to just work out with modern medicine.

I've started planting trees and plants up in the country for my family members and friends when they go. Being an Aussie idiot some are kind of smart arse choices. My mother in law got a plant called a Monstera ( I actually got on well with her but couldn't let the stereotype go, my cousin got this prickly aloe vera thing because he was prickly with a soft centre etc. It's actually a good way to keep them in you mind and the process of fitting the plant to the person is actually a pretty good way to think about the essence of the person and you have to tend them so think about them regularly. So far they've all survived which might have ruined it a bit otherwise. If you've got a bit of garden it might be a good way to process it all.

Hope you are doing well mate, know the feeling all too well unfortunately. Time helps but if you can try and honour him in some way that is special to the both of you I would consider it, it helped me out tremendously.

Happy to chat privately if you ever need it 👍

Sorry for your loss brother.

Your posts always resonate with warmth and compassion and that makes me think your father must have been a wonderful person.

Just know that to experience extraordinary loss first requires you to know extraordinary love, and you have been truly blessed in that regard.

May he rest in eternal peace.

Beautifully said mate....I lost my Mother on the 3rd of November this year too. Your words touched me .......likewise Mum imprinted so much of self on me in her life.....values, sense of questioning, seeking truth, love of humanity in a broader sense but the joy in engaging with different individuals one on one as they present in life. I hope i get better at living up to them...I try...I fail...keep on trying as she would demand!

She taught me to be comfortable feeling, giving and receiving love.

She was 95 but until she went I didn't realise the impact. She really wanted to live.

"Hail Mary"..Yes...my Mum's prayer she would say often was

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope.
To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve.
To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.

I hope you are doing alright!

It's a far cry from the good old days of the West Indies of 30 odd years ago at Adelaide when Courtney Walsh got Craig McDermott out to win a thriller.

Beating the West Indies used to be an epic achievement back in those days, now it's like watching a man kick a dog, not even a tough dog, a poodle.

Thank-you all who have taken a moment to reply to my post, it really does mean a lot to know that people on the other side of the world care enough to send their best wishes. This forum has proved enjoyable and friendly from the moment I joined, and I'm proud to be part of it. Thank-you.

I am sorry for your loss, mate, it's a tough time. Take comfort from the fact your mum lived to a great age and lived a full life, surrounded by the people who meant most to her. 95 is an incredible life, and I'm glad you had her for so long.
