My gift is my curse

I love a good debate on politics but have different views to lots of people that I respect and like. Rather keep it civil and stay on the things that we share in common. Same as in real life. I have a few people I know that I can have a dirty political fight with and still walk away laughing but others I should just know not to get into it with.

We are in finals. I love you all at the moment.
Even George ?

“Comprehension” wasn’t a subject, elective or otherwise when I was at school so not even sure how you’d fail it.

In any event, you can carry on without me, what your positing is completely absurd (we’re gonna have an Indigenous Parliament who will have complete autonomy over all national resources) and difference of opinion aside the conversation was productive and respectful until you barged in like a hyped up 4th grader who just read a sex ed book and wants to explain it to his mates.
Again, failing basic comprehension. I never said we're going to have an indigenous parliament, I said that it has been put forward (multiple times), in the background of the Uluru statement. The nature of the various background propositions demonstrates that a simple consultative committee to put forward suggestions is a long way from the end game.

And it's probably best if you walk away from the convo if cheap jibes and poor analogies are all you're bringing to the table......

Theres no way that's george
Way too much hair
Problem is my chin is absurd. Nickname in high school was chesty bond. Imagine Henry Cavill but more manly.
Should be the new Bond imo either him or Hardy
What the absolute farking hell has this world come too
Has no colour coordination what so ever ffs

My default stance on any referendum is “no”, it’s up to the government to explain why voting in favor is a good thing, Governments have shown countless times why they can’t be trusted on their word.

They haven’t done that. It took them far too long to get any information out.

Also I don’t believe it will change anything. It doesn’t need to be in the constitution, Aboriginals are Australian. They have far more representation to all levels of government compared to the rest of society. Name one politician who doesn’t have an indigenous advisor on their staff.

For all the time and money spent on this worthless exercise, something tangible could have been achieved. Dunno what that is, though, but just like the Government saying “sorry” all those years ago - this won’t change anything. Even if the referendum does pass.

Excuse the intrusion but this is simply not correct. Do you truly think Aboriginal advisor's recommendations are acted upon? Do you truly think they have an impact on decision making and policy? If Aboriginal people are so well represented, then why is there such an horrendous gap between Aboriginal people and others in health, education, life expectancy and health literacy. Why won't the voice change anything? What willl make a difference to the lives of Aboriginal people?
Thanks for taking the time to read.

Well living in remote communities with almost zero employment opportunities, extremely limited access to modern health care, limited educational opportunities and horrendous school attendances, with rampant alcohol and substance abuse issues and levels of criminal activity will do that to you!

People's literacy doesn't improve if parents can't be bothered making sure their kids attend school !! If you spend your days sitting around drunk or drugged, and brawling and have poor diet and lifestyle, guess what - your life expectancy falls, dramatically! Explain how the voice will change any of those things!!
You cannot make people do what is in their best interests if they have no interest or desire to change! And pretending that changing our constitution will fix those things is laughable.

It might be shit like getting them farming their own fruit and veggies so they have access to fresh food and sell the rest. There is ways to implement things better than they are now there they just chuck cash at shit to say that they are doing stuff.

The idea of the voice is that Canberra bureaucrats are getting suggestions from indigenous people. Not throwing money in all directions to look busy. We need to be creative and not just say it's all too hard to fix.

Piss myself at those that think government will change their life circumstances.

I'm starting with the man in the mirror
I'm asking him to change his ways
And no message could've been any clearer
If they wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make a change

And there is the typical stereotyped response from someone who has no idea about Aboriginal communities. Saw a few clips maybe? Read a few articles? Did a bit of research perhaps? Watched a news item on Alice? The fact that you think this is close to happening in most Aboriginal communities is nothing short of ignorance. Your one of those who probably label the stole generation was a good thing and think that drugs and alcohol are rampant in all communities. Your response is probably the most laughable I have read. Empowering Aboriginal people to empower others in the communities is the key. This starts with trusting governments and authorities again. A voice will empower and allow Aboriginal people to take pride in empowering communities.

I don't know what the answer is. The MP whose electorate includes Cape York and some of the remote communities with the worst records of dysfunction did a trace back and added up that Noel Pearson"s "Cape York Partnership" has hoovered up over $550m in funds since 2005 - are the people of Aurukun any better off for it?

Whatever dweebs. I like the message. Stop asking for handouts and relying on others to do it for you. Changing your circumstance is up to you and you alone
