You interrupted my video about the Manzikert battle where Byzatine got punted in 1071 to be all "daddy Pope, please stab those Arabs as they mean and took my fortresses' and demeaned my emperor..." to 1st crusade it later.

My guess: syphilis and war.

430 odd was the Peloponnesian plague of Smallpox or typhoid, 480 odd was syphilis with the Persians, as you know, stabbing, hacking and whatnot with public baths and toilets kind of mean you might not have all fingers, toes or other identifiers of such so check penis and oi vey, someone burn that man in a pit plz. Since Xerces kinda razed Athens in 480 odd with that fire, and that was his second attempt at it.

So midway wise had to be abother plague thing for checking a vote, and the other exclusion was just women did masqerade as men and not all men were Greek living/being in Greece, so as they you know, got jiggy with it regardless as any hole was a goal, one way to check if legit voter as there be statues of penis to check and confirm with or they be shoving a scimitar through your face.

Either or.
Hahaha.
Syphilis, I would never have guessed, but wrong.
War, wrong as well.

PS: apologies for interrupting your Byzantine History Channel episode, but thanks for your entry.

Nerd History.

In 5th century BCE Athenian democracy, only males had the right to vote.
In the middle of the century however, voting eligibility was tightened.
Part of that process required voters to have their genitals checked.

For two reasons.

Guess them both and I’ll send you hugs and kisses.

NO GOOGLING.
To make sure they weren't really 3 dwarfs inside an oversized jacket.

Women are more lippy, irrational and emotional so can't make well thought out decisions.

On their periods they are worse.

To see they had both balls?

Reason 1.
The predominant destabilizing influence of the time emanated from the large immigrant population, primarily from the South Eastern Mediterranean countries who banded together to form a rebel and shortly thereafter outlawed political movement, The Hellenic Socialist Party or HSP for short.
Top of their agenda was to remove the bread from the Athenian national dish, replacing it with a acrid blend of hot peppers, vinegar and oil in what became known as the Garlic & Chilli initiative.

To demonstrate commitment to the HSP cause, new members were required to place their genitalia onto a hot plate lubricated with a mix of water, lemon juice and olive oil, until said man parts developed a seared, though not quite crispy exterior. Whilst this process did ensure a highly resolute party membership, it did leave them highly vulnerable to identification should one be required to open one's tunic and display ones bits, or "lift and seperate" as it became known.
Upon outlawing of the HSP, lift and separate became the price of entry to the democratic process, which put a rapid end to the garlic and chilli initiative, consigning the movement back to its lands of origin.

Reason 2.
In order to ensure genetic purity of the voting base, and as an obvious extension of the anti HSP measures. The Hellenic intellectual trust very rightly determined that only a real Greek man would willingly line up to have his genitalia fondled by another Greek man.
Thus, through lift and seperate they were able to simultaneously rid themselves of the dreaded HSP whilst ensuring nationalistic ethnic priorities of traditional bread and garlic only options.

Typical of George’s kind really

Women are more lippy, irrational and emotional so can't make well thought out decisions.

On their periods they are worse.
Well, you have one reason.
Women didn’t have the right to vote, so they checked genitalia to ensure only voters with willies were eligible.
What’s the other reason?

I never associated calimari with democracy 😂😂😂.
But you are very close with Reason 2.

Eunuchs?

Like Sully and Scappy, you are close.
Hint: the answer to the second reason DOES have something to do with testicles.

I remember reading about how the word testimony has its etymology taken from when men used to have to have their testicles held to give their testimonies.

This is very much unverified and possibly not true.

Women are animals

Wouldn't have a country to live in if it weren't for my ancestors chief. You'd still be rubbing sticks together eating vegemite sandwiches #aussieculture
We have spoken before about you not wearing your hat when the sun ☀️ is out.

Now zip it 🤐 biff

Ex slaves?

Kinda ties into the women thing, as voting was legit only Athenian, male, free, everyone else, and I mean everyone else was excluded from voting regardless. That includes slaves as well, as not free people, but then the Macedonian living in Greece that is free also couldn't vote as not Athenian.

Actual classism, racism and sexism in work in Golden Age Athens.
