I've been against an official rebuild. Its a stupid concession that the best teams have never done, it throws away a year and creates a losing culture (what we are suffering now)

Thought some list changes are important. McLean needs to be put to the paddock. Has an ok game where he gets touches but doesnt influence like others do. Hes not a long term prospect, him out and a young player in.

In my mind there are a list of untouchables (couple of seniors & the promising kids). Everyone else with remotely any trade value needs to be on the table & load up on picks.

We all laughed at St Kilda last year, but they ain't looking too bad 1 year into a rebuild.

I think the focus of the year needs to be checking off some key wins in certain areas to build this team, not rebuild a new team.

An example of them could be to win X amount of quarters vs top 4 teams, kick X amount of goals per game, restrict the opposition to X amount of goals per game etc

Work on those things and ignore win/loss results. Figure out the best 22 to achieve those goals and build on that

I am happy to follow the Blues for as long as there is evidence that the Club is taking the game and its supporter's expectations seriously. So far under Malthouse all signs point to at least movement in the right direction - just don't ask me to explain what his game plan is, what his on field structures are and how he can justify 700K pa for Mr Thomas. Sorry Mick Mr thomas never was and never will be a C Judd.

If he's fair dinkum about "regenerating" the list, then Menzel cannot and should not be the sub. He needs to play the entire match. Docherty must stay in, same with Buckley, even if they play poorly next week.

Had Watto two rows in front of me, could see on his face he was dying to be out there.

We need 2 key forwards...

Either we draft them or we trade for them. And at the moment, if we offered up any of our players for picks to get those two forwards... we would get laughed out of the building...

We have one in Henderson. Waite as a late out absolutely killed us. Hendo was the only target and the Collingwood backline knew it. Casboult is pushing too far up the ground, needs to stay in the forward 50 to keep the opposition backline honest.

Honestly I thought Casboult was about your best last night. Matchups wise I think Keefe/Frost combo would have done a better job on Waite/Henderson tbh (and that's not to say Casboult is a better player than Waite). Casboult was clearly to strong in the contest for any of our key defenders, it's a pity he can't kick though.

On Henderson I think he's a very good player but more effective when he's not the no 1 key target. Against the top sides with the top defenders I doubt he has that much of an effect. Which was the case last night where Frost blanketed him for most of the night who I think it's fair to say is one of the better KB's on 2014 form.

But going forward... we need at least 1 KPF... from there we can start working on improving the rest of the side. We also need to consider a permanent replacement for Jamison. His shoulders are getting on towards being glass and thats not good for a defender who is supposed by taking the best opposition key forward.

Rowe is just a part time fix I think while we get a few more games at VFL level into Watson and Giles.

Righto, we throw the farm at Patton, which I'm all for, but Jeebers, surely he isn't gunna be the one to turn up and show a bit of leadership.

Thing that annoys me about this list, which I reckon is still a young list, is no-one stands up at the start, seems like every week we need a rocket under the players arse to get them going.

Something I don't understand.

it's been like that for ages :( we lost too many extrovert leaders thanks to a couple of our previous coaches

I think you're going to have a tough time poaching blue chip players from GWS considering where you are going to be on the ladder in a few years time whilst they will be looking at premierships in that same period.

This years draft is apparently very key position heavy. Carlton would be better off looking at that imo. Also if Gibbs leaves on FA there's a good chance they end up with two top 10 draft picks.

The other thing Carlton have to get better at is the rookie draft and finding low draft picks. It's tough finding top key position forwards outside the top 10. On the other hard there are plenty of midfielders, rucks and key position defenders running around atm who were found by late draft picks. The primary difference b/w the top clubs and the bottom clubs at the moment is how they are finding and developing those low draft picks players. Last night Collingwood had Frost, Keefe, Goldsack, Blair, Dwyer, Langdon, O'Brien, Blair, Elliot, Macaffer and Josh Thomas who were all found with pick 50 or lower or the rookie list.

We did ok on the first rounders, and we do ok on the Rookie list.

Let's face it, we had to build our club again from the bootstraps up in 2006.

4 out of 5 years we played finals footy, and this years top up, Dre, Thomas, Docherty..........coupled with the drafting of Cripps.........and the development of Buckley, should have put us up near the top in my opinion.

Obviously this hasn't happened, why I have no idea.

We have no real leadership on the various lines... unlike years ago when we had at least 1 leader on each line.

Too many individuals who need a good leader.

It's turned into one of those years where it all went wrong, all these new guys that were gunna add the polish...........then Judd goes down, big Krooze goes down, then 206 is having the season of his life............jeeze, we coulda plonked Number 8 inside the 50.........didn't happen.

Waite and Jamo are carrying the obligatory injuries..............Hendo going back and forward.

It's all too hard, where's my bong by the way????? Someone pack me up.

I'm losing it.................

Regenerate is the word MM used:

"The reality was we were a mile off them," the coach said.

"In the position we're in, we are trying to regenerate our list (and) by regenerating your list you take some heavy falls.

"At the end of the year, the facts are that every club will look at their list and we've got to look at our list and keep trying to regenerate."

We're certainly paying now for decisions about the list build and contract re-signings over the last 5 years. I hope in future we lean more towards brutality rather than conservative with our list decisions. Hopefully some of the dial-a-quote Bruce's millions can be filtered into the area he keeps complaining about and Rogers utilises it. I also hope LoGiudice and the board puts all departments under review at regular intervals, we seem from the outside to tread water in a lot of key areas.

We are so far from a premiership it is simply ridiculous. I really can't see us challenging until maybe 2020 or so, and that's the eternal optimist in me speaking.

Thankfully, a successful draft period or two can really set up a club. Although in saying that, our problems go far deeper than drafting.
