dont think we need a flat out rebuild, regeneration is the correct word to use.

Saints are in total rebuild with a non existent core of 24-26 yr olds. We have this bracket covered, just need to manage out the older crew and bring in some young talent. Nail some draft picks, trade smartly and recruit some gems from wherever.

I believe every team has two premiership windows, we fluffed the first one and now have a second one with the core group we have. Can we be top 4 in a few years? anything can happen.

tend to agree .. .things are not as bad as 10 years ago

Not sure which thread to post this in but in addition to Buckley (a gun), Bell, Menzel, Docherty, Everitt, I think you still have the making of a good team.
But I was wondering what has happened to Cachia? I thought that he had potential. Is he injured?

We are so far from a premiership it is simply ridiculous. I really can't see us challenging until maybe 2020 or so, and that's the eternal optimist in me speaking.

Thankfully, a successful draft period or two can really set up a club. Although in saying that, our problems go far deeper than drafting.

Our biggest problem is development, not drafting

I have to say this is something I have always thought and hearing Judd say it on SEN last night was interesting. I do not buy the premiership window argument or the this list is not capable of a premiership line. I think all clubs are at different stages for many reasons but all just have to work with what they have. There are many players on many lists that are not out and out champions but they play a role and in better teams this is a lot easier than in not so great teams. With the current system of drafting and lists you cannot entirely throw the baby out with the bath water, it is a progression year on year that must be worked on. We do have a good nucleus of players that can be worked with and we need to be smart in how we do this. Our team had many crucial players out last night (not an excuse for the performance but certainly a reason). Judd, Kreuzer, Yarran, Carrazzo, Waite and Curnow would make a huge difference. I was impressed with how White stood up last night, Warnock's game was as desperate as I have seen him, Docherty and Buckley appear to have a future and we have others such as Menzel, Cripps, Holman and Giles that with time look the goods.

Be smart and not make knee jerk reactions, nobody can put a time frame on things so let's just take every week as it comes.

I hope Mick sticks around for a while longer. Even a 2 year extension, gives him the rest of this year and another 2 seasons (3 draft/trade periods) to 'regenerate' the list before entering his final year. He gets it, his comments in the presser were spot on. No use worrying about past failings, this list is going to look vastly different in a couple of years.

There was a grab on Port Adelaide on Fox during the week, 18 months ago.....basket case

Things can turn around

No doubt about that, however you look at the low scores to win this year with 350 odd possessions, and once again the game has changed.

We aren't switched onto it.

To me it's an attitude problem at the top, whether it's the coach or the so-called senior players remains to be seen.

Neither where Port,

They flicked the switch, a bit of smart recruiting...

We aren't but we can...I seen it

Well if you want to dig deeper, there were real issues with Primus, you only have to look at Kane Cornes, who is killing it, and he's 83 years old.

The thing people forget with Port is that already had a batch of good kids before Hinkley came along. They've only really added Monfries, Wines & Impey. Everyone else was already there. They just needed hinkley to get them to fire.

Primus yeh, they have recruited well, and kochie, the admin side of things, on & off the field

my point is things can spin around here's hoping we can as well.

Plus kochie, off field is important too

Reckon we'll turn it around

Hope so as well, but we're a different breed at Carlton. Essentially after the early 2000's we had to rebuild the club from the bootstraps, and we did a heck of a job to get respect back.

I just reckon we got complacent, reminds me of the old Carlton sides of the mid 70s, happy enough to roll along and make finals, beat the sides below us, but not good enough to go far in September.

And when the sides below us starting winning, we've got that what happened attitude.

MM...he has job on his hands, reckon he can do it?

Well that's the eternal question.

He took that year long vacation, went on a book signing tour, then suddenly got interested again after a favourite son who took on footballs' toughest job, and got us back on track, then was utterly knifed by the board.

Meanwhile guys like Hinkley, Sanderson, Cameron and co. are lauded as the future of football.

Sometimes people don't know when their time is up.........my opinion anyway.

Haha Sanderson.

Crows fans have got the knife out for him. And they just rewarded him with a 2 year contract after missing finals :)

OK not so much Sanderson. Then again he came from that factory of terrific assistants down Geelong way.

As an aside, went for a waltz down North Terrace post game, some very unhappy people getting into their Pajeros for the long drive to Burnside.
