Ohhh dear. Collingwood, of all teams, are the last I'd expect to want to play for another "cup". The term "collingwooditis" was coined in reference to the number of big games they play a year, and although matches vs carlton are already big games I don't see the point in honouring one of the biggest rivalries in the game to someone who has done nothing bar 2 years of service to one football club.

As an essendon supporter at the game last week vs the dogs ... I completely forgot we had an ej whitten cup or something we played with them.

Not interested in any of these crap cups. EJ whitten's legacy should've remained with State of Origin, which i'm sorry has died.

Only two meaningful ones for us at windy hill are vs. collingwood for the ANZAC day game and vs. Richmond for dreamtime ... very important to acknowledge the contributions of our indigenous lads.

ps: anyway, this cup is for you mugs at pie land and scum at lygon street. make what you like of it, as supporters of the other 14 clubs are slightly bemused but don't really care.

Look, i have to say i dont mind a few of the cups, Say the one St kilda and hawthorn play for raising money for good causes like a policemans family, prostate cancer, nobody can really rubbish these cups, but even suggesting to put the name Pratt on a cup is going to stir a LOT of emotions. Im sure people think its a brilliant idea for all the contributions he's made to Australia, most will think why we are putting the biggest white collar criminal name on a cup and "honouring" the scum, Poor form for even suggesting it, It was going to upset supporters, people who suffered due to his illegal price fixing and You cant dare say that idea never ran through carltons head.

there's only one real cup, it get's given to the team who win's on the last Saturday in September.

You might find this comment amusing coming from a Collingwood member, but methinks Collingwood has all these H&A nonsense cups because we have a special ability of not winning the real one. (save's you from saying it too I suppose)

I simply don't care for who the cup is named after, I'd rather there not be one. I'm happy for there to be some tin rattlers for Peter Mac and that's it.

Why do you idiots even care what the cup is called...
Why was it named after Pratt if it doesn't matter? Why did you post if it doesn’t matter?

The point is very simply that Pratt is a Carlton man. Carlton can chose to honour him, his memory, his contribution to football the arts or the tightening of white collar criminal laws in anyway the see fit but Collingwood should not play for a cup in his name under any circumstances whatsoever and the board have no mandate to make a decision that is this contrary to the members views and wishes.

If Melbourne and Carlton played for the Barassi Cup I would say great. If Melbourne or Carlton asked Collingwood to play for the Barassi Cup, Collingwood should tell them to stick the cup named after the Collingwood hater up their backsides. It wouldn't be a Barassi issue it would be a Collingwood issue. Collingwood and The Dog's play for the Rose Cup. As Collingwood as Rose was at least he coached them for a while. The McCarthy game is fine. He played for both clubs. The McCallum Cup is ok too. It is an unaligned charitable event. It isn’t appropriate for Collingwood to play for a Pratt Cup before you even consider the ACCC issues and they make it even more distasteful.

I heard Eddie BS on SEN this morning about what the Pratt foundation has done for Collingwood. Honestly he takes us for morons. Unfortunately Collingwood members cannot let Eddie know how out of line he is because the presentation isn't made publicly. I don’t know if that is fortuitous or prudent. I suspect the latter.

well the peter mac cup is named after the great peter mckenna* :)

* before some idiot mocks me, i do not actually believe the above statement is true.

I reckon it should be named after an icon of both clubs if there is to be a cup at all....

Really, tomorrow's game should be for the Mick McGuane Cup. End of.
Ray Byrne or Russell Ohlsen would be better. Don’t think Mick embraced or was embraced by Carlton. I still haven’t gotten over McKenna in a Carlton jumper. Can’t think of anyone else that is worth a mention.
The Bryan/Cloke Cup, proceeds going towards Pre Season Draft research.
Not bad!

I have to agree with collingwood fans on this one. 2 different cups?:thumbsdown:

Its been the Peter mac cup for a long time now. Which was already raising cancer awareness and collecting donations at the ground.

Richard Patt had nothing to do with collingwood. These things are supposed to be about something/someone that has impacted both clubs.

I think carlton should play for The Dick pratt medal.......a medal awarded to the best Carlton player in these games. An award handed out in the rooms post game. It would be a great award for a carlton player.:thumbsu:

* Im not knocking dick....just think this idea is wrong.

What you say makes a lot of sense. Pratt had NOTHING to do with Collingwood and vice versa.
I'd hate to see the Peter Mac Cup playing second fiddle as it has been around for a while and it has more meaning for both teams.
A medal amonst carlton players would be more suitable as they knew him better and perhaps an honour board in the clubrooms of those carlton players who win it..

This is quite sickening ...

Seriously she is one of the scariest people i have ever seen

It is like something you would find under your bed in a horror movie

To be awarded to the winner of Carlton v Collingwood game Friday and all subsequent Carlton home games against Collingwood.

Highly inappropriate and a grave error by Collingwood under Edward McGuire to agree to such a gesture ...
So after listening to eddie on SEN yesterday, it appears as if the decision had nothing to do with eddie or Collingwood, it was totally a decision by Carlton.

Should you apoligise or something and shouldn't you tell people when you posts that you are trying to put together a ticket to unseat eddie

Where is your outrage about the AFL major sponsor Qantas?

I'm fairly sure I've already covered this but I'll do it again. It's kinda hard to hate a corporation like Qantas, generally the people behind the corporations fraudulent actions are those who're hated, and Pratt was one of these people. Notice how people don't generally specify that they hate Visy, but that they hate Pratt and (to a lesser extent) the others on the board.

seeing judd last night saying that this will be a permanent legacy honouring pratt was cringeworthy and just confirmed that it's a cynical exercise in rewriting history.

and before anyone starts carrying on about the cancer charity angle, look at it this way - if the pratt family or foundation's primary interest was donating money for the cancer research, they could easily do so quietly.

if they wanted to create a new charity that encourages other australians to donate, then naming it after a criminal is the last thing you'd do.

the pratt name carries a negative connotation and any cause carrying that name would have the effect of making many people refuse to open their wallets.

if i was approached by a charity, either professionally or personally by a tin shaker outside the ground and the name of the charity was peter mac, would i consider donating ? absolutely. and if the name of the charity was dick pratt ? no way known and i'm sure many people would feel the same way.

shame on collingwood for allowing themselves to be used for this cynical, grubby exercise. carlton have no shame.
