They have a point. Change the logo, change the name, change the location. Can see why people are attached to the current logo. It was nice to know our logo had been around for longer than all other teams.

There’s something to be said about change for the sake of change, and I don’t think it’s needed.

The new logo is as good as a new logo would be, so I have to give them credit for that. I just don’t understand why they had to change it.

We won’t get any extra sponsors because of it. We won’t get better time slots because of it. It’s cutting history for the sake of change.

You obviously didn't read their posts closely enough, they said they wish they could cancel their membership over it.

Reckon that suggests they'd already cancelled it over something equally unforgivable.

The abbreviation of Saint is St. so it would've been a stylistic decision back in the day. And now being synonymous with us, Im glad it has stayed :)
St Kilda isn't short for Saint Kilda, the suburb is named after a ship, which as named after a place in Scotland. There's never been a saint names "Kilda".

Why did they not fix the obvious error?

I have fixed it for them:

We are St Kilda and and are NOT St. Kilda

The dreaded . came in. Then disappeared.. ie 1983-89

...but then came back again. Most likely as the the designers engaged just did not understand that it should not be there.

If they were going to change the Logo, why not fix this mistake of there past?

I think this is like a few years ago when the AFL released the new HD recordings of the club songs and the sky was falling because the drumming wasn't exactly the same as in our original (from the 70s) recording.

Once again, our original logo (from the 70s) has been replaced by a newer version that's been built for the modern technology that will display it. The essence of the old logo (and the even older versions that that logo is based on) are all there but there but in higher definition, and by this time next year most people will have forgotten we ever changed.

Personally, I'm indifferent to the St Kilda/StKFC debate, but I'm disappointed by our choice of font. We've been selling LOTS of merch over the last decade or so with the simplified StK wordmark (see below) and I'm disappointed that we havent kept that same rounded font type. The squarer font we've used looks a bit early 2010s rather than being the timeless font that our logo needs.

On the ribbon, I'm disappointed that we've dropped the moto which I always felt was important to the St Kilda psyche. I understand the decision to overlay the ribbon, making it one piece instead of two, but again I'm not entirely thrilled by the "modernised" quasi-3d effect they've used.

Overall, I rate it a meh/10 and am just glad that they didn't completely bottle it.
I'm with you. I love that STK logo, and I think your version of it with a red dot is probably a direction they could have gone in.

The Futura ST.K and the stickman were both incredibly attractive as logos or brand marks or whatever, and that is probably my only complaint about the rebranding, but if you had to change the font, this is probably the best version of any alternatives that I have seen.

The change from ST. K.F.C. to ST KILDA was inevitable - any past version of this has been incredibly cheap and bad, but they've done this well which is a huge relief. I like that it ties us to the suburb for better or worse: it means a lot more than having KFC on my logo does - it also lessens the possibility of us moving interstate or making the change the Bulldogs did when they changed from Footscray to Western. Big tick there IMO.

7.5 out of 10 for me.
