I arrived before 9:30, nobody was on sight. Had with a chat with someone first then went over to the corner and chatted to another friend of mine as we learned against the fence.

The warm up lasted quite a while. From stretching, to using the ball and then working into fun games for them to play. A bit of frisbee. Sometimes you gotta mix it up in the pre-season to stop them from getting too bored.

Only players not sighted were Appleby, Beams. Langdon and Broomhead I was told by my friend left early, wasnt sure whether they were going for a walk or actually going home.
Varcoe was sighted later on as he came outside in a sling. The surgery obviously quite recent, but it's a good sign he was out and doing some walking around the boundary line.

It was good signs that Stevo completed the whole set of drills. I'd like to think he will be back in full training in the next week. They did say february he would be.

Grundy, Dunn, Greenwood, De Goey and Ruscoe were doing running on the other side of the ground. I heard Grundy got scans, but he looked fine out there, so nothing to be concerned about it seems. Grundy then went inside after that. Ruscoe lasted a while longer. I then thought he went inside, but no, he stayed til the very end. Greenwood is progressing well with his recovery, doing running and the drills along with the boys. De Goey getting more K's in his legs. He probably would have ran more in those running sessions than he would have in the entire session doing what the others were doing. Obviously on a precautionary schedule given his issues.

What is great to see is that Moore, Elliott and Reid have had great pre-seasons. De Goey too, just sometimes restricted. This is probably Reid's best pre-season and a full one at that in years. He looks healthy and fit.

When separated in rotations, they did some forward leading from the midfield drills. They finished up with a brief match sim. Not too intense or anything, but was nice to see.

In other news: Langdon told my friend he wouldn't be training, whether that was full training or any training, til March. Didn't go into much more detail apparantely. Was quite vague from what my friend was telling me. Doesn't sound good, but hopefully he can get it sorted.

AND that's it for me til monday. I'm off to the GC tomorrow for the weekend.

Training observations today Wed 29/1.

Lighter session for 1.5 hours or so in perfect conditions. 10am start.

Warm up for 30 mins
Then games for 20 mins. Group split between American Football and Frisbee Football
Then broke up for various drills around the ground- ruck stoppages, running through congestion with handballs or rugby passes. Bucks observing these as led by the line coaches.
Short period of transition football amongst the main group. End to end.
Goal kicking for a few at the end for 20mins - Mihocek, Tohill, Treloar, Atu, Adams, Cox, Bianco, T Brown, Maynard, Billy. I thought Treloar was the standout actually.

Of note
Langdon and Broomhead set off for a walk about 9.30am
Varcoe walking a few late laps with his arm in a sling with one of the fitness staff
Appleby unsighted
Ruscoe and Grundy did a few run throughs early by themselves and that was it
Reckon Jaidyn Stephenson did the full program today, which was a great sign. Short hair cut being displayed for those who are interested.
All other players participated in the Gridiron and Frisbee drills at the start incl Dunn and Greenwood

When main group was working, separate conditioning drills then completed by
Dunn and Greenwood - lateral movement work and run throughs. Dunn is now at the stage of sudden changes of direction. Greenwood did a tonne of running today
De Goey doing repeat sprints of about 100-150m around the boundary. I'm not exactly sure why he continues on the modified program - hamstring or the shin soreness he's had in the past. May have a new addition to his arm sleeve as he wore a bandage for most of the session

Our list is pretty fit overall, with very few on a modified program. In better shape than last season I think in this respect.
PS Elliott was explosive and excellent in the midfield last Friday match sim. Good tackling pressure too. He and Treloar BOG.

Thanks for the report. Frisbee and broke in such close proximity gave me palpitations.

These players going for walks as their training hardly inspire confidence for the year ahead of them.

Yeah there appear to be a few that, as others have said on here, need to be up and running in the next month or they will be behind the 8 ball for most of the early part of the season.

Particularly concerning news for 2020 out of contract types like Broomhead and Appleby

But more so Langdon. A player needs to do more than simply walk. He has been out of action for a long long time. :(

Thanks Albert, you were accurate last year with your predictions.

Which Pies do you think might be in for big seasons based on training?

Tremendous news.

Would be amazing to get 20+ games from Moore and Elliott, so important to us.

Reid, if fit, would at worst ensure that Checker and Cox feel pressure for spots up forward...and after six injury interrupted years, be happy for him if he can earn a spot up forward, can still take a decent mark!

Sea Fog - I've been most impressed with Treloar, Elliott and perhaps Tay Adams amongst the more established.

Amongst the less established - perhaps Murphy. Time trial top 5, spot up for grabs with Aish and Greenwood. Better mover and more attacking kick than Shaz. I have also been relatively impressed with John Noble's speed and movement. Darcy Cameron may be able to supplant Cox given superior kicking?

1st year players - Rantall the most likely. Time trials have showed his intent and he moves pretty well in traffic, with smart hands. Solid frame too.

It has to be a serious consideration. Our midfield lacks foot speed, Treloar aside, and whilst we’re one of the best at winning it then sharing it around we don’t have enough guys to break up the congestion. The optimist in me hopes it marginalises Mayne’s role, but the realist in me says it’ll be someone else squeezed out. I like Mayne in Aish’s role because I don’t think others are ready and he’s a calming influence it’s just his midfield days that need to be over for our midfield to evolve.
Depending on Stepho and his health/size, he is another who would be great to give some midfield time too as he has that pace and flair to create.

No offence to Wills, but would rather give midfield time to DeGoey, Elliott and Stepho and back in our leaders - Pendles, Adams and Sidey - to play defensive roles (but also hurt going the other way still) as required.

And if we want a role player to give his all for the team, can’t go past the MayneEvent.

Thanks Albert, that sounds good. I have read some promising things about Elliott. We need him to stay fit.

Thanks for the track updates, those in attendance! Very interested to see what Reidy brings to the table on the back of some of these reviews provided over the past few weeks

Poor old Reid will probably star in the pre season, kill it in the VFL and then break down in his first senior game, nothing to see hear

Thanks for the reports. I talked to Beams the other day and he didn’t seem too confident on coming back. Said his body is pretty banged up and he’s had like 7 surgeries. Hasn’t been down to the club in a while. Think he might be focusing more on his kids and his art at the moment. Hope he comes back...

I thought the problems were mental rather than physical. It sounds like he has had enough.

Does anyone know what is actually wrong with Appleby? He seems to have been out of commission for a while. I fear we are covering up a pony-related injury or perhaps even fatality. I find it significant that his name has a pony-relevant attraction, and we have no players with names including Carrots or Sugarcubes or Sarah Jessica Parker.

On another unrelated note Clokey the Pony Lover is at the club.

Coincidence?

I'm not saying anything, I'm just asking questions.
Fairly sure Clokey has been seen dancing with a fine pony

Oh God.. politics re.. can't escape it.

I work in a fast paced environment full of dhs and that re.. thought this site would be a great way to just be myself for a bit.. balance it all out and that re sort of a thing..

I come back from holidaying in the Maldives and St Kits in the Caribbean.. and I get nothing.. like 'how were your holidays' 'how were your holidays' and that re '.. nothing reee.

I've also put in an expression of interest to reconstruct the St Kilda Pier for $54 mil.. if I asked for all to wish me well.. I'd probably get like 1 like.. such is life I suppose.

Just gotta learn to live with the fact that the grass is not really any greener on the other side.. would have been nice if it was and that re..

Full reconstruction or partial? What about the kiosk on the end of the pier? That burnt down and was reconstructed about 15 years ago.

What's wrong with St Kilda pier that it needs $54 million spent on it? The structure seems sound, there's a rustic cafe up the end that is perfectly serviceable though overpriced like most restaurants and bars in the St Kilda area. Then there's the rock walls housing the penguins and the rats, and the mini marina, both of which provide a diversion from blowing your money on expensive wines watching a mediocre sunset from your stool. You won't get a 'like' from me for seeking to waste money redeveloping something that is doing just fine as it is!

Crikey Maldives, what was that like? Are they being flooded?

Sorry Vicky.. can't disclose that information.. lots of rivals and competitors out there that would stop at nothing to steal my ideas.
