A perspective on injuries and State of Origin and pre-season games.

Grundy - foot stepped on by Roughead at Gold Coast training camp. Made for a slow start to last season
DeGoey - breaks hand punching someone..... I mean playing with dog
Howe - Cricket.......I mean frisbee with the dog
Heath Shaw and Alan Didak - crashes car drunk, betting
Jaidyn Stephenson - betting
Sam Murray - Mid week nose beers
Thomas and Keefe - Festival festivities

Christian Petracca - basketball and dog bite
Ollie Wines - water skiing

Life represents a risk. I think there has been as many games lost to betting, partying and playing with the Dog than genuine pre-season game injuries with players doing what the they are paid to do (and yes, I recall Josh Fraser playing for the Big V in 2008).
Hope some of you can now sleep better at night ;)

With these additional practice matches I naturally worry about the potential for injuries to our A graders....

but there is real upside in having the rest of the squad battle it out for the perhaps 3-4 spots that are still open for rd 1, and an opportunity to flirt with different player roles and team structures

Hope there is half decent live feed coverage of it. But likely to be only a post game match report

I dare say the 1st few games be more playing the Younger/Depth Guys

Gods honest truth you were, to me at least, about 18 months ago. Things generally change once familiarity sets in, but there are certain accounts that you can tell are just here to push an agenda (Jon refers to them as sheeple I believe) and get straight onto the report button with anything that remotely nudges the line.

Now we're best of friends.

I like the idea of the additional practice matches. Normally we would be doing sim/practice matches amongst ourselves anyway, so why not do it against opposition clubs.

I really like that we’re having the extra practice match. What I will say though is that it probably isn’t because we think an extra hitout will allow us to hit the ground running (as much as I’d like it to be).

I think it’s more likely that the SOO match will disrupt the build of a number of guys and we want to get an extra look at a few things we’ve been working on against an opponent as opposed to an intraclub.

Don’t mind having the extra scratch matches as it’s an opportunity to see the young ones step up. Also for Elliott to get a run in the midfield. Comes with its injury concerns too though

I get the feeling that we also want to give our kids a good run as well. If you only play the 2 Marsh Cup games, then you need to play your full strength side to prepare for round 1.

By playing 4 practice games, you can split the load amongst the whole list across the 4 games. I'd say our absolutely stars would be looking to play 2 or 3 out of the 4. I doubt any player on the list will play all 4 games.

Sitting here at work, giggling my ass off in the corner at "mid week nose beers"

Good chunk of the office are looking at me like i'm a freak... Pretty sure most of them knew that anyway :)

All AFL contracts should have a clause restricting the player from owning a dog.
Cats and birds and maybe fish. That’s all the6 can have.

I dunno. Suns seem like an easy target, especially when we’re hardly the model of success.

Yeah and by my count they’ve won as many premierships as us since they’ve entered the competition.
