Correct. England close their last coal mine with abot 6 times our population and Albanenese still arguing we need coal.
Abanese= Climate bastard.
And nuclear is a non-insignificant part of their current energy mix.


I have found it very interesting the amount of people pointing to the UK as a bastion of what should be done, but still howling that nuclear isn't a feasible option.

For the record. I don't like the idea of nuclear and am in no way advocating for it, merely pointing out that it has enabled the UK to ditch coal (pun intended).
 

I used to be pretty bullish about the Australian auto industry.
They did a lot right. They made reliable vehicles that were not overpriced.

Right now i don't give a rats tossbag if new importers move in and the old importers suffer.

If we just moved Australia to Norway and got rid of 4/5 of our population, we could just run it all on Hydro.

Dropped some visitors off at their city hotel, but found the options to do this very limited.

Drop off zones were always rare in Melbourne, but today there was a green bike lane - which I support - but pulled in on the lane and after 30 seconds. Cyclist let me know about it.

I see his point of view, but unless ‘parking’ is allowed, unless you are bus or taxi, what I did is now illegal. To stop outside the bike lane would have been in the only lane with vehicular traffic.

I think a serious sector has been overlooked here. We see all the graphics about single driver cars being bad, but where is the advocate for ride sharers?

It would be even worse if there were increased cycle traffic, unsafe to let people out of your car with cyclists making crossing a green lane dangerous

Or book a taxi it seems. Why would something be illegal in a private car but not a taxi?

would make sense if they built big carparks on the outskirts close to transport hubs.
But in typical aussie government fashion, they just get push out the cars without supplying alternatives.

Normally if i go to Marvel stadium to the footy, i use the Casino car park , very close to the freeway , but they caught on and put their prices way up.

In the past 12 months, Hybrids have grown 7.5% to 14.9% of the market. Battery EV have declined from 8.7 to 8%

Also the PW report is also saying that nearly all of the growth in EVs is due to hybrids.

“Australia is part of that (slightly condescending) rest-of-world figure, but we can tell you looking at local data that year-to-date 69,962 fully electric vehicles have been sold, compared to 65,743 this time last year. That’s a 6.5 per cent increase.”

Green hydrogen works but green hydrogen from electrolysis as pursued by heats, fmg, origin and just about everyone else doesn’t


Electrolysis equals
  • PFAS (forever chemicals - cancer & foetal mortality)
  • ammonia (destroys marine life)
  • doesn’t work with green energy


Curtin and Lincoln Labs have solutions that work which may save the sector

Meanwhile we as the tax payer have lost billions backing technologies that kill
 
At tleast the green markings raised my awareness that cycle traffic might be there. It’s just there’s nowhere to stop even for 30 seconds

Its not illegal to park in a Bicycle lane, unless there is a "No Parking" sign on display.
You have to give way to Bicycles already in the lane, but if they come up from behind and abuse you, feel free to abuse them back. I hate Bicycle Nazi's. ( even though i love riding my e-bike ).

Big batteries lead renewable charge as record 45 gigawatts of new capacity seeks grid connection​



Its kind of hard to get a handle on how much Battery capacity we actually have when they report it like that.

45GW of Coal capacity will probably produce 45GW for 24 hours most days. So 1080GWH per day.
45GW of Solar capacity will average 185GWH per day in Victoria. ( It will produce close to 45GW under good conditions ).
45GW of wind , lots of variables, but somewhere around 270GWH per day.

45GW of Battery could be anything. A battery could provide 45GW for 10 minutes, which is 7.5GWh per charge.
Th biggest new projects, near Melbourne is a 2.4GWH battery. ( 1.2 for 2 hours ).
Coal is currently supplying around 3.9 GW for most of the night, so that battery will certainly cut into the crucial evening.

It is confusing because usage isn’t constant.
Most of the need for that 3.9GW from coal would be during peak demand.

Storage will need to be ably to supply peak demand and have enough left over for the rest of the night before we can turn off coal.

I’m assuming batteries will take care of the high peak periods and wind and hydro will take over.
Gas will be the emergency generator.
A mix of solar, storage, wind and Hydro.
