Not really getting the Ange hate.

Better that he leaves now than in March after our next friendly. Plus he foreshadowed it so FFA has had time to think about what to do next.

He got us playing attacking, possession-based football, instilled a belief that Australia can take it up to the big countries in World football, won an Asian Cup and got us to Russia.

I'm very confident his legacy as coach of the national team is assured.

Please not Arnold or Muscat. :'(

I'm a mixed bag on Ange.

Started with competitive showings against three very strong world teams. We then won an Asian Cup where our only hiccup was the late goal in the final.

World cup qualification, mainly the third round onward, was very indifferent. His constant three at the back gave me the shits, and his constant starting of Brad Smith too. We were playing poorly at home and away and should've probably made the WC without playoffs. Of course in between all that we were competitive and played well at the confeds cup.

In the end he did a decent job but he did give me the shits from time to time

Kind of makes a lot of us (including myself) hypocrites if we bag out Arnie for being too boring etc and then praise Popa's appointment. The issue with me for Arnold is the way him and his coaching staff acted like in SE Asia in 2007.

Can you elaborate

Not sure I like the Popovic rumour, he's a great motivator but that kind of loses some of its impact going to a World Cup. If you're not motivated you shouldn't be there.

Arnie would be worse, but who else is there ??

Pretty much sums my views up. The crap that has been served up in the past year and a half has made it really tough watching the Socceroos - eaten away all the progress since 2015. Our inability to finish, and constantly leaking goals pushed out campaign to the brink - we were a few inches of woodwork away from being tipped out by Syria (****ing Syria!).

No matter the job, once people think they are better off elsewhere they are done mentally - so this is the right decision.

Agree the Socceroos have been tough to watch. The last half a dozen games have been stressful AF instead of enjoyable.

The thing is, Ange can't put the ball in the net for the team - we should've qualified earlier, agreed, but our forwards needed to take their ****ing chances for that to happen.

I thoroughly recommend Ange's book too, although I kind of wish he'd waited until now to finish it, but it gives great insight into his philosophy and belief.

"WEELLLLLLL"

He has an "Australian representative"?

Just another in a growing number of big names that have been linked to the job in some form (Klinsmann, van Marwijk, Blanc etc), but I wonder if they'd be willing to do it for probably less than market value

I doubt it. We'd be offering under half what they would be expecting, plus there would be an extra year on the term for the Asian Cup.

I can't see us chasing a well known name that will require $$$$. Probably a local or no name foreigner due to our financial constraints.

Plus it's better they look for the longer term appointment.
