Channel 7 cricket commentary slowly morphing into Channel 9 cricket commentary. JB, Fleming, Slater, telling the same stories about themselves that they told repeatedly on 9, turning it from world leading into an embarrassing boys club. I could go the rest of my life without hearing another Taylor Slater story. This is why I stopped watching during the breaks in play years ago I guess. Might go for a wash.

That’s my tree put up. I’m exhausted time for a beer

I'm not putting up a tree this year. I'm driving my mum and my 2 dogs up to my sister's in Ayr for Christmas so no need.
We've got the African branch coming over so it should be a fairly cheerless if boozy Christmas.

Ants. Normal people have Argentine ants or brown ants or red ants. I've got fucnants. Fucnants everywhere. It was kind of OK when they just formed a fucnant superhighway between the wall gap on the floor slab and the rubbish bin, but I moved it yesterday and the fucnants have migrated up the wall to my desk. All over my computer, monitors, keyboard... I killed most of them with a metho-soaked rag but my life now consists of using an index finger to squish individuals every few seconds. Made a homebrew concoction of borax and sugar that they are busy taking into their nest, hopefully it'll knock the fucnants off in the next few days.

PS: In the middle of winter my network stopped working. Fucnants had nested in my nice warm router and shorted it out. Fortunately a metho bath and drying with compressed air got it going again. Got pics of all the eggs in it somewhere.

Another thing that shits me. Parrot walking over my keyboard in order to do a shit between ASZX and chew on the cables at the back of the computer. :(

Fortunately an IBM PS/2 keyboard so just levered the keycaps off and used a screwdriver and tissue to clean it out. Should have left it, give the fucnants something else to chew on beside dog hair and crumbs.

My local shopping centre had Christmas decorations up at the start of November, you'd think they could wait until December at least to put them up.

The only thing preventing them going up earlier than that is that Halloween has now become a thing.

And by thing I mean marketing opportunity to flog Cadbury products and shit decorations/costumes that will end up in landfill on 1st November.

As a kid I used to like going into Myer in December and seeing their Christmas display because it was actually good. These days most places just have tacky displays and the same $5 CD of 8 songs on repeat. If I worked in retail I would have a serious drinking problem after dealing with that for 5-10 hours a day.

Also, as soon as the Christmas crap comes down it's straight into the tacky Australia Day plastic flags and whatnot and then hot cross buns. I remember the supermarket storeroom (which is hot as balls in Summer) had Easter stock the first week of January one year.

Reckon this is the last year I’ll be able to get away with not putting a tree up. The toddler was pointing all the decorations out at the shops today and getting excited goddamnit :(
I guess you should enjoy it while it lasts, little bugger will reach the age of cynicism before you know it.

I do at times find myself singing along to Xmas carols while shopping - brings a little bit of a smile to the face when realisation hits. Makes me realise I wasn’t always a cynical grumpy old bitch

I do have an issue with early release - hot Cross buns in January is just ridiculous - it’s like going to the pub underage, there’s just nothing interesting about it when the actual moment arrives

It would shit me considerably if I went into Target more than 3 or 4 times a year for more than 5 or 10 minutes at at time. The last time I went in I was too busy noticing that they moved all the sections around to care about the Christmas bit.

Christmas carols are a slow burn. A few minutes here and there at low volume aren't going to hurt you, like exposure to direct sunlight or low level radiation etc. If they are up loud or you have to listen to them on repeat for hours at a time, well...
