This is the man who took a Melbourne team that was playing Grand finals to the wooden spoon. The reports I got from his time there was that when asked by a dropped player what to work on he couldn't tell them.

Just for clarification, Green and White were the only 2 prominent players from the GF side still there in 08. Robbo, Yze and Neitz were also there but had little to no impact.

Then was ordered to Tank, or he'd get the sack. He did what he was told and got the sack anyway

standing corrected, there was definite improvement though until they lost that core of experienced players and sank backwards again through non 'tanking'.

Goodwin and Dodoro apparently seen heading to sydney together, I guess that implies goodie is staying maybe...

Yeah you gotta kind a read abit into goodie and dodoro going to Sydney together but to me that sounds like he has the job and they are there to chase a player probably Taylor Adams I would geuss

Wouldn't have a problem with Bailey. Him or Harvey is fine by me.

Intriguing with the Goodwin and Dodoro heading to Sydney. Nothing to get too excited about though this trade week, daresay any player that has more options/offers than just ours won't be choosing us this year.

Don't want Goodwin as senior coach - he is ambitious and is likely to put his own brand on the team to promote himself as senior coach material. Don't blame him but this doesn't suit EFC.

First preference - Bomba T changes his mind and does it until Hird returns.
Second preference - Mark Harvey does all the media stuff and handles a lot of training with directives from Bomba T and indirectly from Hird. Harvey will want the best thing for the club and won't be as ambitious as Goodwin.

Go on as much as you like but the coaching/sports science department's cost us finals in the last two years - When the club was clearly good enough.

You can continue to be blinded but it doesn't change the facts !

Bailey had a flawed game plan. He relied on teams giving up the ball in their forward line ( with little or no pressure ), rather than trying to retain the ball in his team's forward half.

Bailey is a more successful coach than Harvey when all is said and done.

i would have thought after everything that has gone on, the thing that would make you most likely to not renew your membership would be the club just quickly hiring the first essendon person we can find.

Bailey got improvement each year (with almost nothing to work with from the start). The year that he got the sack Melbourne were also thrashing the sides they were beating (Adelaide by 98 point for example). The same year they played about as much good footy as bad with very little in between. They were young, flaky and a few years away from having maturity enough to be consistently good.

To the best of my knowledge Bailey had the playing group on side and that debacle against Geelong was the result of some misguided protest to get rid of administrators who we know now to have falling out with Bailey (i.e. Schwab and Connolly).

I despised him at the time because of the tanking but history has revealed the tanking to be about much more than just Bailey. He seems the sort of guy that has a good balance of mentor and mate with his players who would suit an interim role well. There are also the similarities between what he was trying to achieve and what Hird and co have been doing which support his getting the job.

No one is disputing that. I just don't understand why that makes Hird untenable despite the clear and obvious upward trajectory, while Buckley's downward spiral deserves a second chance.

Harvey and Bailey are both far, far better credentialed than Hird in the coaching world.

I wouldn't mind both as assistants TBH, but as we roll on I'm wondering if it wouldn't be wiser to make a clean break and go for someone like Simpson in the senior gig.

In the sense of being involved in 2 flags as coach. Assistant cred is a pretty good indicator, although Harvey's senior record is obviously much better.
