Time to ban live export once and for all

I don't know that I agree, that it is easy for countries to source food, especially live animals from other places. I think it's an empty threat, that Australians being a bit naive for for. I'm sure every place that can supply food to another country already is, to the max. Even so, many starve.

What I wonder is why countries need to import food? Haven't they heard of maintaining sustainable populations? Jeez some places can't even supply drinking water to their people because of what they have done. Australia should be one of the wealthiest countries on the planet, being able to supply both. they need to drive a better bargain. Of course South Africa was once a bread basket.

There are slaughter houses which could be re opened, ones that could be built, people could be retrained or even trained, jobs would be created. Wealth would be shared around. The farmers would be happier ultimately because each sheep would be worth so more, to tide them through the droughts and flooding plain times and they wouldn't carry bad karma. The sheep could spend their end times in paddocks.

Live exports: investigation into allegations welfare concerns were suppressed

former staff members in the animal welfare branch of the agriculture department allegedly had their reports “revised or redrafted to dilute or expunge findings which adversely reflected on the regulatory framework”.

The former agriculture minister and Nationals leader Barnaby Joyce in 2013 abolished the animal welfare branch

Classy guy

Zimbabwe was once a food basket for Africa at one point until Robert Mugabe ruined it all.

It's been awhile since I've been on. I saw you'd responded to my rant. The whole world once was a breadbasket. Everybloodything a body needed was put in there for us. Clean fresh air, water and food if you did the carting and hunting and gathering. We've come along way.

Anyhows, it made me think of a siteI look at when I'm feeling brave. It's called Worldwide Air Quality. When you lookout the local view, Australia, it seems pretty good, but when you look at the world view, it's like fgs. The southern hemisphere is doing good, but look at the mess through the guts of the planet. It blows me. What do you make it? Mainly it says to me for a start, just how lucky we are to be living here. Say no to fracking hey.

I feel like the dt are missing the ACTUAL issue here.......

It's a pretty serious issue, seeing as the people who are responsible for the abysmal conditions on livestock freighters are being paid to keep them that way.

The offer of one of the crew to switch the oxygen off so the sheep would choke says it all. The idiots that made the cash offer didn't have the foresight to think of what would happen.

This entire issue is not as clear cut as the majority would think.
There is no denying that the industry, especially the sheep export trade, has had its problems.
Emmanuel's have been widely known as rogues for years, and I would say decades.
However, this has now spread nation wide across all livestock export.
I would ask people to consider the actual facts before swallowing the kool aid from Animals Australia and the various animal rights/vegan activists.
Fair enough, what was shown was awful, and I do not know one farmer who wasn't outraged. But it isn't the norm.
It isn't even close to the norm.
Think again.
What possible advantage is there in Australian Farmers/exporters in delivering dead/mistreated animals?
Most won't understand, or care, about the gravity of this issue if LE is totally banned.

However much dissembling Animals Australia try to do here, they've still put the incentive in place that could encourage further cruelty (I mean, "we'll give $1000 to your school" is Today Tonight level stuff.)

Leaves a pretty glaring question mark over anything they source from here on in.

The latest disgusting images of sheep being boiled alive are a stain on this country. No amount of bluster from the LNP about alleged animal welfare improvements can hide that it is an inherently cruel trade. No animal should suffer torture and we as a country should be ashamed of our part in it.

So the pictures were a set up ,& 4 Corners bought it = the shock jocks of
Australian TV ?

This is what people fail to realise. The flow on effects of a ban are massive.
All because of one increasingly dodgy looking 60 minutes piece which people got up in arms about.
Never mind the fact that live export mortality rates are in line, or lower than, on farm mortality rates.
It's an emotive, knee-jerk bullshit argument that is being cleverly manipulated by AA and other extremist lunatics.
I hope they sue their arses off.

"WA farmers are threatening a lawsuit against the Federal Government if it does not abandon new rules they believe will kill the live export industry, as lobby groups demand an investigation of allegations animal activists conducted “industrial sabotage” by paying for vision of suffering animals. 100% unless of course there is influence or reward for workers or others to manufacture these outcomes.

Are the same people who have destroyed the livelihood of Australian farmers also protesting in mass as to why they are shipped live in the first instance? Barbaric live slaughter of live animals based on religious grounds.
My answer would be no!

These same people wh0 slaughter the beast dont buy fridges because they dont have the money, there isnt any electricity, fair dinkum put solar panels on your tent !!
Onya Dimmy!! They need to lift their game eh

More like a classic case of 'the end justifies the mean' knowing there are a bunch of ideologues who buy first, think later !!
You'll have lots of them on here advising they've demanding a refund of donations, the not for profit status removed, the prosecution of the conspirators, the tax man/police to investigate the cash payments ...

In reality we simply don't have the labour force in Oz to slaughter here.

Directors have quit the boards of slaughter houses in Australia because
a) the only people you can get to work there are ex-cons. Have a think about it, giving ex-cons with mental health and emotional control issues sharp as fk blades....................what could go wrong?
b) we have introduced criminal law for directors for deaths in the work place

A sensible midway solution would be to allow Fiipino's and refugee applicants into the country to work in slaughter houses and then grant citizenship after 5-10 years. The cattle wouldn't be butchered in Oz, rather slaughtered, quartered and chilled.

It does happen
Lots of Vietnamese butchers were bought into Rockhampton
I know a few butchers all nice blokes none are ex crims
One had to work in the local hardware store for about 10 years because there was no butcher work
The other moved out of town to get more work

Surely it wouldn't be too hard to get an impartial group (vets) to travel and monitor the sheep and decide on recommendations to improve their lot, that are satisfactory to all but the vegans.
And give them some stun guns and training
88% of animals in the UK killed by halal methods were stunned beforehand in a way that many Muslims find religiously acceptable.
https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2014/may/08/what-does-halal-method-animal-slaughter-involve

all cattle killed in WA slaughter houses are killed in accordance with halal/ kosher. I trust the same procedures are carried out over east.

I can't confirm whether jewish or islamic prayer is carried out but I doubt it, which is the only issue. Perhaps have an acceptable prayer played in the slaughter houses and have the finishing touches.

broome tried hiring aborigines but they simply didn't want to work.

refusal of almost any work should be automatic loss of benefits, however refusing to work in a slughter house has to be a clear exception to the rule. Working in one must be choice, as killing animals all day must play on the soul.

The meat industry is a tough (physically) gig, wouldnt work in a boning room for quids, not because the bloke next to me was named Eddie. Abattoirs are opened & closed at the drop of a hat.
