Not sure what you're talking about. If we delisted Clurey his full salary continues to count against the cap + the salary of the rookie who replaced him.

A shuffle to the rookie list is possible if they need to make space, on the main list, but unless we have a bunch of cap space, cutting him makes no sense.

The only way it doesn't count against our cap is if another AFL club picks him up after we delist him. Then they take the final year of the contract and we either only pay some or none of his contract.

What I mean is we will be paying Clurey's salary either way (whether he is AFL listed or not). So if he is not going to play AFL games (which he didn't this year and I would bet he doesn't next year), we are better off paying to him sit on the SANFL list and getting an extra young bloke through the draft onto the AFL list. We have the cap space to do it.

Our strategy with Clurey really depends on whether West Coast is still interested in him or not. If they are then we could delist him and let them pick him up as a delisted free agent. Failing that we would need to retain him and cut other contracted guys on smaller salaries such as Jackson, Williams or McEntee to get the list spaces we need.

Fair enough. Not sure we definitely have the money, may have used some of it on Ratkins and Luko?

I think Clurey will also be held as depth incase of emergency.

West Coast apparently still interested in Clurey as a DFA now. Too cheap to give us a future 4th.
Albeit minor, another great example of our trade prowess.

Delusional. He was awful on the wing.

He would have thought that, because it’s what he would have been told by our coaches.

We all need to come to grips with the fact we are following a very dishonest football club and in particular, a very dishonest football department.

For example telling Duursma to explore his options in his exit meeting & that he’s not in their plans, then publicly painting it as if Xavier initiated a trade request and “we’ll try and facilitate it if we can”.

It’s actually puzzling anyone would think this guys delisting is unwarranted. Once allir came in and it became obvious a fit McKenzie was a better back up in 2021 clurey seemed on the way out.

So it was staggering we actually gave him a contract extension until end of 2025 in 2022.

How do you know this is what happened?

Hopefully 2 of Aliir, BZT and Ratugolea don't get injured. Otherwise we are stuffed.

I don’t think clurey was ever going to be the answer.

I think he had a good period for us 2017-2020 but feels like a really long time ago since he played decent AFL for us.

We’ve probably got some extra versatility with Luko who can play back too if desperate, I’ve always thought finlayson could be an option too down back, Xavier Walsh another. Bergman and Burton can play tall if they had too.
