Player Watch Tom Doedee - Departed for Brisbane, End of 1st Round FA Compensation

Well, we do have one at least. McGovern: if he stays injury free, he's a good chance of making it. Wouldn't discount Dear either.

What KPP would that be this year?

The ones left at 17 have massive question marks on them, just as much as Doedee. Collins? He's slow and has ordinary agility. We don't need another slow, dour defender. We already have the best in the business in Talia. Ben McKay? He and his brother are both risks but Ben is even more so. He's slow, poor agility and very limited in terms of work rate/running ability.

At least Doedee has athleticism, work rate, defensive nous and reasonable skills on his side.

Are those who have rated Collins slow and not agile the same people that rated him a first rounder and rated Doedee a third rounder. You know the people we are not top believe?

Looks like he fills a need for the Crows across half back with the injury plagued Henderson, Otten and Jaench not long term options across half back. Would be an upgrade on Cheney, Shaw and Brown if he fulfills his potential which means that there is wisdom behind the recruiters logic.

In 3 years a defense of Laird, Talia, Doedee, Kelly, Lever, Milera should be pretty elite.

May not have been the best player available at pick 17, but could well have been the best available player for the Crows list.
Milera won't be a defender for us, he will be a forward and push into the middle hopefully. Jake Kelly may or may not be a long term solution for us in defense.

Luke Brown will definitely be in our backline going forward, he's an extremely underrated small defender because of his generic name. He's played every game for us bar one since Round 1, 2013.

From what I've seen of Seedsman I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the SANFL for the majority of his time at the Crows. Hampton I don't know a lot about.

Thanks geoff.

Bump.

This should be easy for you Marty. Just go through what the experts phantom drafted and find the next best KPD or KPF?

Or I could go through the State Championships see who performed in that comp, although then I am believing some random that has chosen the best players on the day. Gee you cant win! And hopefully the selectors of the State Championship got it right and chose the right kids, maybe someone from the Noarlunga Shoes was just as good but due to the selectors not picking right he didnt get a crack at his dream but was just as good as say Burton, but relied on someone no names judgement!

Our recruiters don't judge players based on what is a tiny sample of games, because they are professionals. Even the games best players go through periods where they don't have great games, especially when they are teenagers. Milera had an average state champs. Oliver who went at 3 didn't even make his state side.

Ok so Seedsman, Kelly, Milera, Hartigan, Cheney, Jaensch, Otten, Henderson are not really bankable long-term options as defenders. If the Crows rate Doedee's capabilities as a medium defender, then this pickup was a no-brainer.

Your money, your mouth, put them together.

Come on champ spit out, name please, stop dancing around the question it's pretty simple really, the name of one player that was still available after Doedee? Plenty to choose from but we only require one name.

I would rate Burton, Partington and Bonner especially as they had the ability to go through an U/18 comp, a reserves comp, and manage to break into an SANFL team. I would put $1 Million dollars on an SANFL club destroying any U/18 TAC cup team, the players you are competing with are of so much higher quality, you will get a few good ones at u/18 level but 80% wont ever get to even SANFL level. To get to that SANFL team they must have performed throughout the year so maybe thats is why those in particular and Milera were rated so high.

So who would you have drafted at 17?

As I said there are a number of players rate a lot higher than Doedee for one reason or another I have already named three you can choose one if you like. Infact I just threw Partnington and Bonner into the list with Burton, Collins and McKay. Only on their ability to compete in a competion of far more strenght with tougher opponents than the u/18 comp

You only have one pick to use.

You're naming a spread of players so that if any one of them out performs Doedee you can point to it and claim that we failed, even if every other one of them turns out to be a massive spud.

He also hasn't done a medical on Burton to determine if the scar tissue in his knee will work as the cartilage that will never repair and He hasn't had an interview with McKay to determine if he will struggle with homesickness living away from his identical twin, which is frankly is incredibly negligent for an expert recruiter like Marty.

I would have thought we were in need of a large defender to replace Hartigan moreso than a mid sized defender. I guess crows rate Hartigan, didn't rate Collins and/or think Lever will be able to put on enough size.
In which case I still would have rated the need for a tall forward more than a mid sized defender, especially after getting Seedsman and Hampton.
I guess we must have got what we thought was the best player available and not have rated others in the draft.

It's not about "rating" Collins/Mckay as being slow/not agile. That's what they are. Clearly, our recruiters don't think we need more of those and another club perhaps is willing to take the punt. They might make it through other factors in play i.e. footy smarts, drive to succeed, etc but it is a fact these two aren't fast and aren't agile. I can understand the recruiters thinking here. We just have to hope it pulls off.

Another post you mention Bonner, I'm certain I read this bloke had TWO tackles at the champs as a defender, the lowest of any SA player. That is very poor. Yes, he's a good kick and reasonably athletic but he's incredibly outside and his defensive work is ordinary. We just recruited a number of outside players, including two who the knock on them is defensive work rate and being soft (Seedsman and Menzel). We don't need another one with those issues.

... and deleted.
But then how could Marty come back and rub it in our faces when Burton or McKay or anyone taken after pick 17 in the ND, or anyone taken in the rookie draft, or anyone passed over this year but taken sometime in the future (ala Pav) becomes better than Doedee.

Anyway welcome Tom, glad to have you on board. I apologize for the bunch of pelicans on here that are phantom draft experts.
Is that your own insult, or a cool new addition to the swear filter?

campaigner ****ers pelicans
