Lock in the Coleman barring any injuries or suspensions... he is on fire. He might even win us a flag again, 2011 style.

Thing with Tom is though it would be the last thing on his mind. Remember a few years back he was in with a chance of winning the Coleman when we were playing some cellar dweller at home in the last round, and despite us looking for him at every opportunity, he was more interested in passing off to players in better position than having a day out and winning the Coleman.

A Coleman would go nicely with the AA selections, the B&F and the Premierships. I reckon he'd prefer a 3rd flag to a 1st Coleman though.
Definitely. And so would all of us here. Would be another great team accolade for the ultimate team player.

"Hawkins Island"? Isn't that just isolating your key forward one out, which all sides would be trying to do?

This. Even Pagan, while deliberate with what he wanted to do with Carey and at times Longmire, wasn't exactly inventing totally new theories. "Hmmm, I've got this monster marking forward, what would allow him to have the best chance to have one opponent and beat him?"

i can appreciate the logic behind Crawford's idea regarding Essendon but Geelong aren't stupid. This isn't Johnson or Chapman or Kelly who were still capable footballers but not utterly crucial to us playing the way we want to play. Hawkins is by some distance the most important commodity we have and while they aren't going to be giving him 3 years, they will be offering him a pretty healthy 2 year deal I think and with his ties to the club and history with it, he won't be going anywhere.

We've been slow learners but seems we now have the right combination of speedy ball movement and isolating the big fella - by giving him space he can work one on one or lead into space. We should also mix it up a bit by hitting open targets high in F50 if defenders start pushing back to crowd the space.
It's what the Eagles have done so well with Kennedy over the years, great to see us waking up at last :thumbsu:

I'd give another contract to Hawkins... if he wants 2 years, give him a 2nd year option that is contingent on games played next year and, in his 2nd year he can be paid based on games and form.

The thing with Hawkins is that nobody has said he has asked for a two-year deal. lolz. That was just talking heads in the media, telling us, what they would do if they were Hawkins - sort of like what Shane Crawford would do if he were Essendon and the AFL was fantasy football. But none of these people are the big THawk. Hawkins is currently the best FF on this here big spinning globe and I think he will do what he pleases and Geelong will be cool with that because we generally all get along.

The end.

As people are aware I tally and report on this Boards MVP votes weekly.

Right now, Tom Hawkins is leading the Geelong Board MVP...I would suggest that if this exercise was done by every Board, not one of them would have a key forward leading the way.

Hawkins is our most valuable player without a shadow of doubt.

The other key here is lately we have been playing with just one key forward. This means the other forwards have pushed up the ground and have the pace to push back, and we have medium forwards like Rohan who can take pack marks.
I hope we keep with this strategy because we have been cleaner forward with Esava out of the team so hopefully the MC don't try and shoehorn him back in. His role should be backup ruck, Jenkins backup forward, and that's it.

Yes, Rohan's impact on our set up shouldn't be underestimated..boy, he has great hands......but that said, I think they will put more games into Esava when they can.

We forget he's yet to play 40 games and with more time to develop, could well be a very good player for us in the not too distant future. Let's say an investment for the future.

He's big, quick, powerful, a great leap, and has good hands. He's not in my best 22 just yet, but its probably just a matter of time.

Sav must be persisted with, he can compliment Hawkins nicely, look at the SF last year.. they were both very very good
