Also have amartey and Naismith on the list

Look, we as fans can kick this around until the cows come home. None of it will made any difference.

The fact is the Swans are chasing Hickey. Sure they won't pay a stupid amount for him in picks nor salary but the Swans are chasing him. So fans saying 'we don't need him' really need to listen to their club because the club IS saying they need additional ruck depth. It isn't Eagles fans saying this it is Sydney.

The Eagles are not shopping him around, they front loaded his contract and if he does go he will need a replacement to come in to back up Nic. So there is no reason whatsoever for the Eagles to push Hickey out. It would be to the Eagles detriment to do so.

Regarding Martin or any other rucks available, I'm sure the Swans have assessed those and several others higher up their rankings but these have been re-signed or not available / willing to move.

When you need a ruck to be healthy enough to potentially play round 1 and carry 90% of the ruck load you pay slightly over market rates. It is that simple.

I can’t see him having too much value. Pick in the 40s at the absolute most if sydney are desperate.

And that turns into a pick in the 50's.

Why would the Eagles do that? He is contracted and on a low salary in 2021 plus needed.

If all we are likely to get is a pick in the 50's we keep him and he goes next year. All good. Player like him, he is a great mentor to the young rucks and is decent back up for Nic.

Question, if he goes what do the Eagles spend to replace him?

Letting him go for peanuts doesn't add up. We will be chasing a pick upgrade. Just don't know what pick.

I think the clubs has stated that Vardy will be re-signed in that case.

My bet will be a 2021 3rd rounder or a complicated 2020 pick swap where you get pick 24 and we get more points....

In all honesty I find it illogical the Bulldogs wouldnt come in and offer a huge amount for him draft pick wise. He is pretty much the only ruck I can think of that would suit what they need that they can actually get. The perfect partner for English

Charlie Gardiner just said on Trade Radio that Hickey is looking to get back to the east coast for family reasons with his wife and kids. So that might explain how this came about in the first place.

Why would swans pay more than the going rate for old back up rucks? If the price is too high they will just look elsewhere.

Are the Dogs chasing a ruck so English can play forward or a forward / ruck to give English a chop out? I'm not sure on what the Dogs actually want.

Hickey isn't a forward / ruck he's a ruck who can play 90% of a game in the ruck. Sure he can play forward and snag one every now and again but that isn't his strength.

Isn't the starting point pick 39 or whatever the Eagles used a few years ago?

Surely he hasn't increased in value whilst not playing and getting older?
I think he was uncontracted when he came to us, he played pretty much a full season in 2019 while naitanui was missing for most of the season, and then understandably only managed a few games this year when naitanui played the full season. We recruited him as a backup first ruck so he was never going to play much if naitanui was fit. What we paid for him a few years ago is irrelevant now as he's contracted and we're more than happy to keep him on our list especially since his contract was front ended, so it's up to Sydney to make west coast a worthwhile offer or they'll just turn around and say thanks but no thanks.

That is exactly what they’ve been doing. Port knocked back offers, so they approached WC. Where else should they look? The Swans obviously have concerns over the durability of Sinclair, hence the offer to Hickey.

Didn't I pretty much said that! So when 'is the price too high'?

What is the 'going rate'?

BTW 29 isn't old for a ruck and #2 rucks who can play 90% game time round 1 2021 don't grow on trees. Just go and log onto Dream Team and go look at all the listed rucks in the competition. The list is pretty small and it doesn't take long to get to names you have never heard of and have never played a game.

As I keep posting Eagles will want a pick upgrade of some sort.

Pick 30 + Hickey = ?

2021 2nd + Hickey = ?

Pick 30 + 49 + 52 + Hickey = ?

Yeah that’s true. I just doubt the swans would pay too much for him.

Which is why I think we will trade for points. His value is 40ish - which Eagles fans agree. So I think it will be something like 24 and 57 traded for Hickey, 33 and 54.

Also he wants to move for family reasons and is a back-up ruckman........

Can't see Eagles playing hard-ball here.

Pretty much. Although this year complicates the draft values with all the NGA's

Only thing to clarify here is that we didn't approach Port for their rucks. They approached Aliir and then we asked for one of their rucks. Aliir told us he wanted to play in defense rather than ruck, hence our approach to Hickey, who apparently wants to move back to the east coast for family reasons. It's what Charlie Gardiner said on Trade Radio.

Overall, I think the Eagles could get a little bit overs for Hickey. He is still contracted after all. But I think this will be one of those deals that gets done at the end of trade period when other trades have happened and we know what we have. Our need to generate draft points to match bids is our first priority, but we usually deal pretty easily with you guys and both teams end up getting what they want out of any deal.

Out of interest, what do the Eagles need list or draft wise?

In terms of talent? Nope he hasn't - he is still a middling, though AFL talented ruckman

Where his value goes up is he is contracted and there is a shortage of ruckmen.

Personally for pick 38 - i'd rather keep himin case Nic goes down again. In a crapshoot draft - 39 isn't much better than 60

Yeah that’s true. I just doubt the swans would pay too much for him.
They can‘t. I suggested a future 3rd. The Swans have two academy selections, which are predicted to receive high bids in this draft. For example, if Campbell goes at pick 5 & Gulden at pick 15 (1878pts)+(1112) = (2990), then excluding their pick 3 they will go into deficit.
2990 - 20% (598) = 2392 - 1102 (24, 57 & 61) = 1290 deficit. This is equivalent to pick 12! I suspect Sydney will trade their 2021 first to somebody or trade a player. WC only have 941 points in total.
