I would suggest West Coast throwing us a few picks in the 60's that you have no intention of using but looking at West Coast's draft picks this year you have pick 60 but it is your second pick of the draft. No way is West Coast giving that up like another club might.

It's possible we don't enter the draft at all I guess.

Sydney clearly preparing a godfather offer for the contracted superstar Tom Hickey.

Really sad to lose Tom, he’s been a terrific clubman. His speech in the jumper presentation to Bailey Williams (who was in direct competition for a spot this year) spoke of a terrific clubman. Also been a mentour to some of our younger talls like Oscar Allen.

Would have played much more footy had it not been for Nic coming back as strong as he has; daresay if games were at full length this year he would have played more this year as well. He’s just a #1 ruck, with not as much scope to play other roles. I can understand why he wants to leave.

Wish him all the best. I’m sure WC & Sydney will work out a fair deal. Given he is contracted and we would prefer to keep him, I doubt he leaves for a late pick, but probably somewhere in the 30-40 range.

Tom is a journeyman now, quite sad that he has bounced from club to club during his career, at least he will never be short of a bed when he travels in future!

Hurry up Sydney. Sell the farm for contracted superstar Tom Hickey. You don't want to miss out.

Why would wce let Hickey go when he’s contracted?
The last time a contracted tall wanted to go to Sydney they traded the out of contract Jetta straight up.

I felt at the time that was heavily in Sydney's favor. Maybe it's time for that to go the other way.

I think Sydney will offer us what they get from Port for Aliir.
Possible, I think the Swans will expect more for Aliir Aliir than they expect to pay for Hickey.

Something like: Port trade pick #35 this year and #35 next year, sending #35 this year to WCE for Hickey

Well Pruess just got traded for pick 31.

A backup ruck stuck behind a top 3 ruck in the comp. Hasnt played a lot.

As close to Hickey as you could get as a comparison. Maybe Preuss maybe a bit more valuable as he is a beast.
Would think a Preuss holds a few bit more currency than Hickey

Preuss is 4 years younger. Sydney would be crazy to give up a pick in the 20s for a backup ruck who won’t be there when they are good again.

So a mid to late 30's pick.

We throw in our 3rd for the points going back to Swans we get back to the pick in the early 20's.

Hickey plus our 33 for the Swans 23 would be the min deal. Thats bagain basement level trading.

I wouldn’t do that if I was the swans. They need to trade 23 for points I reckon. Then give west coast a pick from that.

Who thought Hickey would be the Eagles point of focus. I guess the intrigue rests in Sydney’s ruck necessity & perhaps the stipulation, that for the deal to succeed, the Swans have to accommodate a higher pick than the Eagles current selection (34). No doubt, Sydney’s negotiations will revolve around Aliir Aliir’s decision. Ideally the Swans would love to acquire one of Port’s ruck stock*. Either way I don’t see the value in letting Hickey depart unless WC can secure a higher pick. * unsure of the collective noun. A herd of ruckmen? ...

I think effectively swapping him for Witherden would be a huge win. I definitely think Witherden has more value.

I think this is all down to salary cap though. We need Hickey out to bring Witherden in.

I confess, I know little about Witherden apart from a fantasy game. He’s a reasonable height & good kick, but can he defend? Someone posted a highlight of a GWS final in which he was dispossessed, burnt off & punished by Daniels. Probably not the best matchup. Im unsure of his pace, but he’s got talents. He's someone I didn’t expect to be available, so I suspect you’re correct with the salary cap assumption. Clubs usually don’t offload talent, unless they can cover the position with better talent.

WC ‘s best scenario would be to offer a future 3rd for Witherden, then offer Sydney Hickey + pick 60 for their acquired future 2nd pick.
