Interesting that for all Collingwood's bluster they still haven't been able to extract a player from Brisbane (yet). Will be interested to see how this one plays out.

Despite personally being disappointed in our compo for Christensen, I am pleased that we are a club that is compassionate. The Magpies appear to be completely dismissive of Beam's personal issues - I would have though the offer of Brisbane's first 2 picks is a equitable offer.
The pies will take 5 and 25.... they are puffing their chest and banging on but they are just used to bullying everyone else into doing what they want. I like the way the Lions are staring them down.
Pies aren't used to people saying no to them, but at the end of the day they will fold and get it done.

The PR rap they will get for not letting a player go home to be with his very ill father won't be worth not working it out.

Lions hold the cards as they don't have to fold, they'll just grab him next year

Deal off the table apparently.

Ok, well that is disappointing, to say the least. 21 is obviously robbery but I'll assume it's all they can get as he is out of contracted. What was he on and how much salary cap will be freed up? We need the space for when Patrick wants to move back to Geelong for personal reasons.
Its looking like we will have the money , but will we have the side for his ambition? If we slide out of the 8 (Terry wallace)...... not a great addvert.

Well I still think Beams will get to the Lions and the Pies won't be getting a player out of Brisbane as much as they'll sook and moan

Anyway, time to move on. If he goes for #21, I'm now preparing myself to embrace a player who is

- three times as good as Burbury (#63 in 2013), and

- twice as productive as Vards (#42 in '09).

By that 'logic', he'll only be a third of the player Sel is, though.:(;)

so he will the the 3rd to 9th best player in the comp? happy with that...

As if they'd say anything different.

COLLINGWOOD STATEMENT

Negotiations between the Collingwood Football Club and the Brisbane Lions over Dayne Beams ceased at 5pm on Friday evening.

Out of respect to Dayne, Collingwood worked as hard as it could to construct an equitable deal with the Lions who pursued the contracted 24 year-old All-Australian midfielder but, ultimately, didn’t value him as Collingwood does.

As everyone is aware, Dayne requested a trade to Brisbane for personal reasons, something Collingwood agreed to consider as long as the outcome returned appropriate compensation.

Unfortunately, this was not forthcoming.Collingwood’s position from the outset was that a good player and an early draft pick was a fair return, although the club did consider the possibility of a combination of draft picks. Even this failed to produce a solution.

Now that negotiations with Brisbane have ceased, Collingwood is free to pursue other opportunities involving players and picks. The club remains open to offers from other clubs for Dayne, if that is his wish.

If not, at the conclusion of the trade period the club will look to sit down with Dayne to prepare for the 2015 season.

My 2 bob.

-Lions get into Bundy's ear about moving up to Brisbane for a big pay day
-Bundy Concocts a "personal Issues" Story just to grease the wheels of a trade
-Cats get f*cked in the ass with 21 and cant refuse it as we are not looking after players welfare.

It baffles me that Trengove may go to the Tiges for 11 and we get 21 for Bundy. Trengove not only has a more career threatening injury, he's had far less output over his career.

Try for sure but i dont think we will get it
You're probably right, but GWS wouldn't have been able to get Griffin to ask for a trade if they didn't ask the question. 3 picks before 30 could be very handy for the future.

It may be a silly but that's part of the reason I was worried about Lonergan leaving. Considering how few goals he concedes and how few points we won many games by last year, you could see a number of extra losses next year without him.
And while I don't expect to win the flag, finishing in the top six with improvement in our youngsters would be a better pitch to Danger than dropping out of the eight.
We keep Lonergan. We won a lot of games without Christensen this year. And Varcoe out, Clark in will be an interesting study.

Still don't believe it. Bet that letter has been ready for days. Deadline was just Collingwood trying to make the rules.

Classic Collingwood chest puffing.

The Tigers have always been baffling when it comes to trading.
