I think that he’s come to the realisation that he’s not going to ever become that big $$ player he assumed he was already unless he actually puts in the work. The embarrassment of shopping himself around and having no takers was probably the wake up call he needed.

A bloke with the initials Dustin Martin did the same thing at the end of 2013. It was the making of him. Let's hope JDG does the same.

Surely we could throw a lifeline to Jackson Trengove? Rookie spot at least.
Back up ruck and KPD. Adds some depth in a couple of areas.

He's terrible, a poor mans Roughy.

Melbourne have delisted Oscar McDonald.
Do we look at him as cheap depth?
Would cost literally nothing in salary and comes as a delisted free agent....

O.Mac is really really bad at Football.

Not sure why posters from this board are engaging with nitwits from the Norf board who are posting here with suggestions of a 3-for-1 deal to get us a pick which likely won't even get us the one player who might be worth throwing the kitchen sink at maybe.

They've already fleeced us on Stevo and and we've taken the spotlight that was entirely on their rabble of a club for the next few weeks so let them be happy with that and not entertain any further flights of fancy coming from them.

Just in case anyone is confused, what they're looking for is us to turn Treloar, Stevo, 2020 pick 16, and our 2021 1st into 2020 pick 2 and a more heavily compromised ability to match bids on Reef and Daicos.
Stepho and Treloar is already done and dusted. I wouldn't do the 3 for one trade, but now that we have pick 14, we shouldn't inflate its value just because we paid way too much for it.

no problem.. i wasn't necessarily trying to support any argument etc.. just also like to point out that i think we paid a lot more for Treloar (2 x pick 7s with No.28 pick coming back?) than Geelong did for Cameron (13, 15 and 20, with 2 x GWS future second round selections coming back).

You need to remember that that Geelong's pick 13, 15 and 20 would potentially have become picks 16, 20 and 25 after bid matches are factored in.

When you look at it that way the deal for Cameron isn't so bad at all.

I wasn't doing that at all, but when you're considering an outcome you need to put it in the context of where we have come from and what position we would be in for perspective.

We need to end up with one pick inside ten, keep 14 and then get a 30-something pick or 2 x 40s I think.

Very hard to get into this position without giving away too much next year.

I posted an article couple pages that indicated that the afl have changed their rules this year in relation to picks, list spots and matching bids.

Basically you don’t need as many lost spots as you do picks.

So we can just stockpile a few later picks to match Reef.

Disagree. How much we paid for pick 14 is irrelevant to its current value and potential use for us in the future. We need to work out how to best use what we now have, without clouding opinion through still trying to view it as Stepho and Treloar. Because it no longer is that, its simply the 14th pick in the ND, with a set number of points attached - that's its value.

One thing I don't want to see this draft period is the Hine 'cute' picks. The left field choices, none have worked.
The McLartys, Broomhead, Wills types. Follow the hype and get on with building a future.

Mclarty was one of the worst draft decisions in history. Imagine recruiting a kid who can't ****ing hear ffs. Hine needs to go back to basics.

That's only happening in your head, not mine. I'm just focusing on what's going out and what's coming in.

We would be coming from two best 22 players and two first round draft picks and ending up with a single first round draft pick based on that proposed deal. That's fact, not impression, not an exercise in smoke and mirrors.

Individual trades don't happen in a vacuum and to be frank those interim trades (such as the Stephenson and Treloar trades that left us with pick 14 and a 2021 2nd) are forgotten soon after the draft as it's only the players we end up with at final list lodgement that matter, which is why I'm viewing the exercise of "improving our list" purely in terms of ins and outs.

Personally if we don't get at least two live first round picks plus Reef and Daicos out of the next two years without impacting too heavily on the 2022 draft then this off season has been more of a failure than it looks like at the moment.

If we can swing it so that we have three picks inside the top 20 this year. plus Reef and Daicos then that is a much better position obviously.

It would be the fact of the entire trade period and it should be used to judge our whole trade period, but Stepho and Treloar are now irrelevant to what we should do with pick 14.

I did see that article. It really opens things up for us, in fact it wouldn't surprise me if it was Collingwood that asked whether it'd be allowed this year!

It’s like continuing to watch a shitty movie because you paid for it and want to get your moneys worth.

Money is gone regardless so your better off going to do something more fun/productive.
